The blade opening coefficient is the coefficient for the blade opening, and the blade opening is
calculated by the following equation.

Blade opening = blade opening when the blade opening coefficient is multiplied by 100 x blade
opening coefficient (%).

1 To reduce the blade opening, set a value that is smaller than 100, and conversely, to increase the
blade opening, set a value that is larger than 100. The blade opening coefficient can be set from 0 to
199.
The blade opening coefficient set here is used only when the [Press spec.] item in the [Create
Inkprofile] dialog is set to [Normal] or [Original]. When [KHS] is selected, the value is always calculated
as 100 regardless of the value set here.

PCC EN EO 1310 00
Template Setup 5-5

The ink-set value coefficient is the coefficient for the ink-set value, and the ink-set value is calculated
by the following equation.

2 Ink-set value = Ink-set value when the ink-set value coefficient is 100 x ink-set value coefficient (%).

To reduce the ink-set value, set a value that is smaller than 100, and conversely, to increase the ink-set
value, set a value that is larger than 100. The value can be set from 0% to 99%.
This designates the initial value for the printing order that is displayed when creating an inkprofile. The
designation method differs according to the method selected by [ColorOrder Type] (6). The color order
can be changed when creating an inkprofile.

<When "Channel Number of Preview" is selected>

This designates which number order of color information saved in the image file is assigned to each
unit.
The order of the color information saved in the image file can be checked using the following method.

1. Open image file.

2. Select [About this image] from the [Image] menu. The image file information is displayed.
3. The color information in the image file is saved in the order indicated by the [Colors:] item.
In this example, it can be seen that the colors are saved in the order of 1. Cyan, 2. Magenta, 3.
Yellow, and 4. Black.
Then, to assign the "Black" information to Unit 1, designate "4" as a color order of Unit 1. Here, the
color information (black in this example) saved in the 4th position of the image file is assigned as
the initial value to Unit 1.
3

Note that when the printing order is designated by this method, if the order of the color information
saved at each image file is different, the initial value of the color order that is displayed each time an
inkprofile is created also differs.

<When "Color Name" is selected>

This designates which color information to assign to each unit. Designate "Special" to assign the
information for special colors. When "Special" is designated for multiple units, the color information is
assigned in order from the lowest unit number according to the color information order saved in the
image file.
If the unit is a reverse printing unit, set [Reverse].
If a unit is marked as a reverse printing unit, the "-" symbol is displayed at the left side of the unit
number.
4
Normally, the unit before reversing is set as the reversing unit.
For example, in an 8-color press in which the press prints using Units 5 to 8 after printing using Units 1
to 4 and performing reversing, Units 1 to 4 are set as the reversing units.
If the unit is a coater unit, check the [Coater Unit] check box.
5 If a unit is marked as a coater unit, the "C" is displayed at the left side of the unit number.
Note that this checkbox cannot be checked when a web press template is selected.

6 This sets the method for designating the color order. (Details: Refer to [ColorOrder] (3).)

PCC EN EO 1310 00
Template Setup 5-7

Set the ink-set value used for printing units. A value from 0% to 99% can be specified.

PCC sets the ink-set value in four steps in accordance with the average blade opening (image area
coverage) value of each unit. The initial values are the Komori standard values as follows.

Average blade opening

value (x) 0<x<10 10<=x<20 20<=x<30 30<=x<=99.5
(Image area coverage)
Ink-set value 20 25 30 35
2
For example, when the blade opening average value of Unit 1 is 12.5, in the initial setting the ink-set
value of Unit 1 is 25. Here, when the ink-set value was changed from 25 to 15 when the blade opening
average value x is 10<= x<20, the ink-set value of Unit 1 becomes 15.
In addition, to output at a constant ink-set value regardless of the blade opening value, the values for
all four steps can be set to the same value.
Noteï‚ë´
Note
When the ink-set value is set in accordance with the average blade opening of each unit, the value calculated
assuming a blade opening coefficient of 100 is used as the average blade opening of each unit.
Set the maximum value of the range over which the blade opening is to be treated as 0% among the
image area coverage data for each ink fountain key calculated from the image area. The value can be
set from 0% to 0.25%.
The initial value is 0.25%.
3
When the image area coverage value calculated from the image data for each ink fountain key is less
than 0.25%, the PCC calculations assume a blade opening of 0% for that key. Reducing this value
results in a blade opening of 0.5% even for faint images.
Select the initial calibration curve for [Original] mode. This setting can be changed later when creating
4 an inkprofile.
When this setting is made valid by [Normal] being selected for the press specifications, the overall
blade opening can be increased. (When the press specifications are [KHS] or [Original], this cannot be
5 used even if this setting is valid.)
Make this setting valid to raise the overall blade opening when the printed image is mainly solid.

This is used to specify the conditions when storing the inkprofile data in PQ4 format.
<Checked>
The image file name is used as the PQ4 file name.
The file name can be changed when saving the file.
<Not checked>
PCC automatically generates an 8-byte file name based on the project name and job name used by
the K-STATION, KMS and PQC-IV, and uses it as the PQ4 file name. This file name cannot be
changed.

See the information below when determining which mode to use.

• This checkbox can be checked when loading created inkprofile data to K-STATION Ver. 2.0 or later,
KMS (for a sheet fed press) Ver. 2.1 or later, KHS-AI, or PDM.
The file name can be freely set (the initial file name is the image file name). In addition, when the
image file name is less than 8 bytes, underbars "_" are added to the end of the image file name to
make the 8 bytes, and this is displayed as the initial file name.
• When loading created inkprofile data with PQC and K-STATION or KMS other than the above,
uncheck the checkbox and save the inkprofile data using the 8-byte file name automatically
3 generated by PCC. If the inkprofile data is saved with this checkbox checked, it may not be possible
to load the data depending on the characters used in the file name.
• On KOMORI corporation equipment, when loading or selecting inkprofile data created using PCC,
the file name used when saving with PCC is not displayed. Rather than the file name, the project
name/job name with the inkprofile creation time is displayed. Therefore, the inkprofile data should be
managed not by file name but by project name and job name to enable a distinction.
[PQC-S] [KMS (sheet printing)]

This limits the characters that can be used for project names and job names.
<Checked>
All characters except ["] and [,] can be used. ["] and [,] are replaced with a space.
<Not checked>
Only single-byte alphabet letters (upper case), numbers, '-', '.', '/', ':' and ' '(space) can be used.

See the information below when determining which mode to use.

4
• Always uncheck this checkbox when loading created inkprofile data to the PQC.
This is because the PQC limits the characters that can be displayed for the project name and job
name to single-byte alphanumeric characters (upper case), '-', '.', '/', ':' and ' '(space).
• When loading created inkprofile data to the K-STATION, KMS, PDM or KHS-AI, the limitation on
characters that can be used for the project name and job name can be removed (except for ["] and
[,]) by checking this checkbox. However, note that the K-STATION, KMS, PDM or KHS-AI must also
be set not to limit the characters that can be used for the project name and job name.

Creating an Inkprofile for Duplex Printing (a

Reversing Press, a Perfector Press and a
Web Press that are specified with sheet fed

CAUTION
Be sure you thoroughly read and fully understand the “Safety Precautions” before starting work.
In addition, be sure to sufficiently understand any safety related information in the main text before performing
any work.

When creating an inkprofile for a press that prints on both sides of the sheet in one pass (sheet-fed perfecting press/
double facer, or web press), the PPF preview images for both the front and back sides must be linked, and then the
front/back relationship of the two images must be specified. (When printing on a single side using a sheet-fed
perfecting press without performing perfecting, create the inkprofile following the procedure for “Creating an
inkprofile for single-sided printing.”)

Setting the Preview Image Link

1. If each side of the form is in separate PPF files, open both files.
If both sides are included in one PPF file, PCC displays the preview image of the front and the back in separate
preview windows. In this case, “FRONT” will appear in the title bar of the front preview image window, and
“BACK” will appear in the title bar of the back preview image window.

2. Check that the correct template for the press to receive the inkprofile data is selected under [Template

3. Select [Link Preview Image] from the [Image] menu.

The same operation can be performed by clicking the [Link Preview Image] button of the Tool Bar.
This command can be selected only when the template has front/back attributes.
If both sides of the preview image are included in one PPF file, it is automatically linked to the template with the

Setting Press Specification

CAUTION
Be sure you thoroughly read and fully understand the “Safety Precautions” before starting work.
In addition, be sure to sufficiently understand any safety related information in the main text before performing

As the image area to be printed increases, the amount of ink consumed increases, so the blade opening (inkprofile
data) of the printing press also increases. Conversely, small image areas consume less ink, so the blade opening
also decreases. This relationship between the image area size and the blade opening is defined by the calibration
curve file.

Generally the calibration curve is determined in consideration of the type of image to be printed (solid, characters,
etc.), ink type and properties, paper quality, printing press status (cylinder arrangement, ink roller nip, before or after
color change) and characteristics, and other various conditions.

PCC divides these different conditions into the following three types which can be selected from the [Press spec.] list
box in the [Create Inkprofile] dialog, and which can be set to assign the most suitable calibration curve for the job.
Press spec. Rule
Automatically applies an optimal calibration curve generated from the image area coverage, the
Normal type of printing paper (coated or uncoated) and the ink color (CMYK or special), and outputs the
inkprofile data.
Outputs the data format when using a press equipped with the KHS (Komori High performance
inking System).
KHS The relation between the image area coverage and the blade opening is a directly proportional
relationship, which means the printed image area coverage data is the inkprofile data. The
calculation of the blade opening and other data is set on the press side.
The relation between the image area coverage and the blade opening can be freely set as a
Original calibration curve to match the printing conditions. Use the CurveEditTool to create and edit
calibration curves.

TOPILS Data Output 11-5

This designates the initial value for the printing order that is displayed when creating an inkprofile. The
designation method differs according to the method selected by [ColorOrder Type] (3). The color order
can be changed when creating an inkprofile.

<When "Channel Number of Preview" is selected>

This designates which number order of color information saved in the image file to assign to each unit.

Black.
Then, to assign the "Black" information to the unit 1, designate "4" as a color order of Unit 1. Here,
the color information (black in this example) saved in the 4th position of the image file is assigned
as the initial value to Unit 1.
2

Note that when the printing order is designated by this method, if the order of the color information
saved at each the image file is different, the initial value of color order that is displayed each time an
inkprofile is created also differs.

<When "Color Name" is selected>

This designates which color information to assign to each unit. Designate "Special" to assign the
information for special colors. When "Special" is designated for multiple units, the color information is
assigned in order from the lowest unit number according to the color information order saved in the
image file.

3 This sets the method for designating the color order. (Details: Refer to [ColorOrder] (2).)

Displaying PPF Preview Images

The procedure for displaying PPF preview images is as follows.

1. Select [Open] from the [File] menu.

2. The [Select file] dialog appears. Select the PPF file and click the [OK] button.
The PPF file extender is normally [*.PPF] or [*.CIP]. If the file name does not contain either of these extenders,
designate [All files (*.*)] with [File of type].
The PCC compares the PPF preview image size with the template (plate information file) size, and automatically
selects the most appropriate template. The preview image is then displayed with the plate image (green
background color) centered in the sideways direction.

3. Select the template.

The currently selected template is displayed under [Template Information] in the [PCC Status] dialog. To change
the template, select [Select Template] from the [Image] menu. The [Select file] dialog appears. Select the new
template name and click the [OK] button.

4. Adjust the preview image facing so that the gripper direction is always at the bottom. If the facing differs or if the
image is not mapped to the printing area, adjust the image facing and position. (Details: Refer to Chapter 7
<Operation of the Preview Image>.)

5. To close the preview image window, click the [x] button at the upper right corner of the preview image window, or
activate the window to be closed and then select [Close] from the [File] menu.

6. Open the PPF files for the front and back sides.
If both sides are included in one PPF file, PCC displays the preview image of the front and the back in separate
preview windows. In this case, “FRONT” will appear in the title bar of the front preview image window, and
“BACK” will appear in the title bar of the back preview image window. Be sure to check the template for both the
front and back preview images.

Authentication 12-1

Authentication
Registering Authentication for PCC
You need to register authenticaiton to use PCC.
Use [USBKEY] that comes with the Setup CD to register.
The following method can be used to register when registration was not performed.
1. From the [Environment] dialog box, click on the [Register] button to display the following dialog box.
2. Insert [USBKEY] included with the Setup CD into the USB port and click on the [OK] button.
3. When registration is completed, a message will be displayed, so click on the [OK] button to close the ID
registration dialog box and complete authenticating registration.

CAUTION
The data file used at the time of authentication is stored on the USBKEY.

In addition, because the USBKEY checks the connection periodically after every authentication, be careful not to
remove it.

After the authentication registration, if the USBKEY is removed from the USB port or if the USBKEY cannot be
recognized because of a malfunction, PCC displays an authentication error message.
“Authentication Error” is displayed periodically until the authentication is performed again.
PCC can be used for 30 days even after the message “Authentication Error” is displayed. When the 30-day period
has expired, PCC will not start up.
If a USBKEY malfunction occurs, contact Komori service to have the USBKEY reissued.
When changing the PCC computer, PCC can be used continuously by performing the authentication registration with
the same USBKEY.
