Chicken and rabbit problem

1. The farmer has 30 chickens and rabbits together. There


are only 100 legs. Find the number of chickens and the
number of rabbits.

10 chickens and 20 rabbits

2. A spider has 8 legs and a dragonfly has 6 legs. There are


20 spiders and dragonflies altogether. There are 144 legs
in all. Find the number of spiders and number of
dragonflies.

12 spiders and 8 rabbits

3. There are 40 cars and motorcycles in a park. There are 116


wheels altogether. How many cars are there? How many
motorcycles are there?

18 cars and 22 motorcycles

4. An adult ticket to a concert cost $35 and a food ticket


costs $18. Mr. Right paid $598 in all for 20 such tickets. How
many adult tickets did he buy? How many food tickers did
he buy?

5. There are 30 questions in a math competition. 5 points are


awarded for each question answered correctly and 3
points are deducted for each wrong answer. Rena scores
126 points from the math competition. How many questions
did she get wrong?

6. Mr. Greg spent $390 on 5 similar basketballs and 4 similar


volleyballs. Each basketball costs $15 more than each
volleyball. What was the price of a basketball and the price
of a volleyball?

$50 for a basketball and $35 for a volleyball

7. A math quiz consists of 30 questions. The first 20 questions


are worth 4 points each. The last 10 questions are worth 7
points each. No points will be deducted for each wrong
answer. Justin scores 124 points on the math quiz. How
many of the first 20 questions and how many of the last 10
questions does he answer incorrectly?

3 from the first 20 and 2 from the last 10 were wrong.

8. Wayne has 20 bills. The denominations are $2, $5, and $10.
The number of $2 bills and $10 bills is the same. The total
value of these bills is $110. How many bills of each
denomination does he have?

9. There are 45 questions in a science test. 4 points would be


awarded for every correct answer, and 2 points would be
deducted for every wrong answer. All questions had to be
answered. If Henry scored 150 points. How many questions
had he answered wrongly?

10. Andy spent $55 in all to purchase 20 $2 and $5 toys. How
many $2 toys did he buy, and how many $5 toys did he
buy?
