A DepEd-BEAM Distance Learning Program supported by the Australian Agency for International Development
To the Learner

You had discovered different plane figures. Here, you’ll

learn that an angle has parts.

Let’s Learn This

Identifying parts of an angle.

Let’s Try This

Name the following figures.

1. 4. 7.

2. 5. 8.

3. 6.

268
Let’s Study This

This is a point ( . ). I’ll name it “O”.

I’ll draw a line extending to any

direction and locate a point along the
line. I’ll name this point “A”. This is
how it looks.
A
0

I’ll draw another line from the same point

extending to any direction and again locate a
point and name it as “B”. This is how it looks
now. A

0 B
The two lines that connect “0” to “A” and
“0” to “B” are the sides of the angles called rays.
“0” is the common end point called vertex. The
plural form of vertex is vertices.

269
What we made is an angle which is
made up of two rays with a common
endpoint.

This angle is
named as “angle”
AOB or “angle”
BOA.

How is it read?

How do we write
it in symbol?

is the symbol for angle. We

write it this way: AOB or BOA.
The vertex is always written at the
middle or center of the angle.

Let’s Do This

a. Make a dot. Call it “X”. From the

dot, draw two rays and locate a
point in each ray. Call it M and N.

1. Name the angle formed

2. What is the vertex of the angle?
3. Name the two rays.
4. Name the angles in three ways.

270
b. Given:

N
L M
1. What is the common vertex of the angle?
2. Name the angles formed in three ways.
3. What are the rays formed?

Let’s Do More

A. Activity: Identifying parts of an angle.

Material: Two sticks ( any )

Glue or paste
Coupon bond or any recycled paper
Pencil/Ballpen
Instructions:

1. Make an angle with the use of the two sticks.

2. Glue or paste it in your paper.
3. Name the angles formed by using any three capital letters
in the English alphabet.
C
B. In

D
E
1. What are the two rays?
2. What is point D?
3. Name the angles formed in three ways.
________;________;________

271
Let’s Remember This

An angle is the union of two rays having a common

endpoint called vertex. The two rays are the sides of an
angle. The symbol of an angle is

and the ray is“ “. An angle can be named by:

A capital letter which stands as the common
endpoint.
Its three points represented by capital letters.

Let’s Test Ourselves

A. Identify the parts of an angle.

A 1. __________

2. __________
C
B

x
B. Given:

y z

3. What is the vertex of the angle?

4. Name tha rays.
5. Name the angles.
