NETWORKING Lab #2.

Devices Implementation and connectivity tests

Objective:
Observe how using ping command, we can test a local network host or other one in a
remote network.

Requisites:
-Packet tracer 7 or superior version.

Task 1: Open a packet tracer session


Place the following devices needed to implement this Lab in the work area:
a) 6 Pc desktop format ( PC-PT )
b) 1 routers CISCO 2911
d) 2 switch 2960-24 TT
e) 2 network printer PT
f) UTP patch cord cable

Task 2: Connect all those devices according to this diagram:

Task 3: Configuring the PCS
Enter using Realtime mode

1. Add PC0
Select the Desktop settings tab:
Select Ip configuration > FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.0.1
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the Gateway to 192.168.0.254
Set DNS to 0.0.0.0

2. Add a PC1
Select the Desktop settings tab:
Select Ip configuration > FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.0.2
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the Gateway to 192.168.0.254
Set DNS to 0.0.0.0

3. Add PC2
Select the Desktop settings tab:
Select Ip configuration > FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 1192.168.0.3
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the Gateway to 192.168.0.254
Set DNS to 0.0.0.0

4. Add PC3
Select the Desktop settings tab:
Select Ip configuration > FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.1.1
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the Gateway to 192.168.1.254
Set DNS to 0.0.0.0

5. Add PC4
Select the Desktop settings tab:
Select Ip configuration > FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.1.2
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the Gateway to 192.168.1.254
Set DNS to 0.0.0.0

6. Add PC5
Select the Desktop settings tab:
Select Ip configuration > FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.1.3
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Set the Gateway to 192.168.1.254
Set DNS to 0.0.0.0

Task 4: Configuring the network printers


1. Add network printer0
Select the Config tab:
Select FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.0.4
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0

2. Add network printer1


Select the Global Settings tab:
Select FastEthernet0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.1.4
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0

Task 5: Configuring the router


1. Add a router (Router-PT)
Select the Config Settings tab:
Select FastEthernet0/0:
Set the IP address to 192.168.0.254
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
Select FastEthernet0/1:
Set the IP address to 192.168.1.254
Set the Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0

Task 6: Enter Simulation Mode.


Click in simulation tab to enter in simulation mode. We want to capture only ICMP
events. In the Event List Filters section, click the Edit Filters button. Only select ICMP
events.

a) Ping the local loopback.


From the PC0 command prompt, ping 127.0.0.1 ip address and press
Enter. Minimize the command input prompt window. The first packet
should appear.

b) Examine the first package.

Examine the first package that appears in the Event List by clicking the
colored Info rectangle for that package.

c) Walk through the simulation.


Click the Capture / Forward button once. The first ICMP packet is returned
to PC0. Observe the process and examine the events. Click the Reset
Simulation button.

Task 7: Try to reach the local default gateway.

a) Ping in Real Time Mode.

Click the Realtime tab to enter Realtime Mode. At the PC0 command prompt,
ping to 192.168.0.254 ip address and press the Enter key. Observe the
results.

b ) Ping Simulation Mode.

Click the Simulation tab to enter Simulation Mode. At the PC0 command
prompt, ping to 192.168.0.254 ip address and press the Enter key. Minimize
the command prompt window. The first package should appear.

c) Examine the first package

Examine the first package that appears in the Event List by clicking the colored
Info rectangle for that package.

d) Walk through the simulation.

Click the Capture / Forward button several times until the first ICMP Echo
Reply packet returns to PC0 successfully and observe the process. Examine
the packet in the PDU Information window at different points along the way.
Click the reset simulation button.

All the lights on the link will be green. Select ARP and ICMP from the Event List
Filters and repeat the first ping command. Click the Capture / Forward button
repeatedly until the first ICMP echo reply packet is returned correctly.

Task 9: Test reaching a remote host.

a) Ping the remote host.

From the PC0 command prompt, run ping the ip address 192.168.1.1 and
press the Enter key. Minimize the command prompt window. The first package
should appear.

b) Examine the first package

Examine the first package that appears in the Event List by clicking the colored
Info rectangle for that package.

c) Walk through the simulation

Click the Capture / Forward button several times until the first ICMP Echo Reply
packet returns to PC0 successfully and observe the process. Examine the
packet in the PDU Information window at different points along the way.
