HCML
HCML
Husky-CNOOC Madura Limited (abbreviated as “HCML”) is one of the Production Sharing Contracts (PSC)
of Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), as a representative of the
Government of Republic of Indonesia to conduct exploration and exploitation of oil and gas in Madura
Strait.
The Madura Strait is located in East Java Basin, one of the most prolific areas in Indonesia with remarkable
oil and gas reserves. The operation of the Madura Strait Production Sharing Contract (PSC) is currently
under the management of Husky-CNOOC Madura Limited (HCML), whose shares are owned by Husky Oil
Madura Partnership (HOMP), China National Offshore Oil Corporation Southeast Asia Limited (CNOOC),
and SMS Development Limited (Samudra Energy).
THE PROJECT
BD FIELD
BD Field sits on top of Kujung Formation with reserves expected to recover 441.7 BCF of gas and 18.7 MM
barrels of condensate over an expected field life of 13 years. First Production from BD Field commenced
on May 6th 2017. Over the course of 2 years BD Field has produced up to 68 BCF of gas and more than 4
MM barrels of condensate and currently in the process of ramping up to full production to reach plateau
production phase for the next years to come.
BD Field Production is served by 3 major facilities namely offshore Wellhead Platform (WHP), onshore Gas
Metering Station (GMS) situated near the city of Pasuruan, and a Floating Production, Storage, and
Offloading facility (FPSO) operated by 3rd party under lease contract. Production from BD Field consist of
sour and toxic gas with around 4500 ppm of H2S from WHP which is then treated in the FPSO to produce
sweet gas for sales to gas buyer in the GMS and the by product of acid gas is then converted into molten
sulfur on the FPSO, the gas also undergone separation process to produce condensate which are then
periodically offloaded to a shuttle tanker.
BD Field achieved 1st sales gas to PGN on June 6, 2017 and 1st sales gas to IAE on December 22, 2017 and
achieved maximum sales gas rate of 110 MMSCFD in June 2019. In terms of condensate, BD Field has
performed its 1st condensate offloading to MT Serui tanker on October 24, 2017, and as of September
2019 BD Field has safely performed 29 times of condensate offloading operations. BD Field had also
performed its 1st molten sulfur offloading on November 3rd, 2017; creating history to be the first offshore
facility that produces molten sulfur and performed molten sulfur offloading in Asia.
MDA-MBH
HCML is pleased to announce the completeness for MDA and MBH Platforms, Subsea Pipeline and a Hot-
Tap connection to existing East Java Gas Pipeline. The MDA Platform is known as one of the deepest fixed
offshore structure installed in Indonesia. Both MDA-MBH platforms was built with two million manhour
zero incident. The MDA & MBH fields are projected to produce potential gas to accommodate domestic
gas needs. The gas will be channeled up and connected to the East Java Gas Pipeline (EJGP). The total
estimated production from these two fields is expected to reach 120 MMSCFD (Million Standard Cubic
Feet per Day).
MAC
The development plan of MAC gas field will involve drilling and completion of 3 wells at around 230 ft
water depth, the installation of a minimum facility wellhead platform (WHP) and a mobile offshore
production unit (MOPU) as well as an approx. 8km 10” export pipeline, which will be subsea tied-in to the
existing 28″ East Java Gas Pipeline (EJGP). Design capacity is 60 MMSCFD to accommodate the plateau
rate of 54 MMSCFD for at least 5 years.
The WHP will be a 3-leg unmanned wellhead platform with 5 well slots (2 for spare). Gas lines from each
well will be routed directly to MOPU by using flexible jumper lines. The MOPU will encompass gas
processing facilities for sweet gas i.e. gas treatment, dehydration and dew point control system and
compression.
CHALLENGE
For the MAC field project, which was initially planned to be in production from Q4 2022 change to Q1
2023. The change in the MAC onstream timeline is due to the delays in the delivery of MOPU long lead
equipment due to a Forced Major caused by the implementation of the COVID-19 lockdown in China for
March-May 2022.
