Course Brochure Proper

The document outlines STEMgrowth courses that bring higher-level content and problem solving beyond standard curriculums. The foundation programme establishes foundations for higher programmes through integrated learning and projects on city development and personal projects using higher mathematics. More advanced programmes focus on becoming outliers through research, presentation, statistics, and philosophy of science skills.

STEMgrowth foundation Programme
“ STEMgrowth foundation programme establishes the foundations for the higher-level programmes. The
students will learn not only higher-level STEM content, but they will learn research and communication skills
following our integrated curriculum. The aim of this is to stretch the students’ knowledge and problem-
solving skills beyond the standard curriculum and prepare them for the Engineering Pathway. This will be
done in the form of two projects 1) City Development and 2) Personal Project – where the students will do a
mini thesis and presentation using higher level mathematics and analysis skills”.

T Theory: They will come up with a theory and then test it.
E Evaluate: They will use their higher-level STEM skills to evaluate their theory.
M Meaningful: The work will be meaningful not abstract.

Become an Outlier Programme

“Become an Outlier! Outliers are special, unique and stand out from the crowd. Success isn’t just about
being good in the classroom. The become an Outlier programme is an extension of the STEMgrowth
programme and focuses not just on the Students’ academic development but personal development as
well. The four pillars below are what is needed for anyone to become a success. No time is wasted on
superfluous things that are often taught in schools.
The student will follow the STEMgrowth programme but in addition they will learn how to become a
researcher and join our PSHE programme where they will develop leadership and communication
skills, develop their study skills, learn higher level statistics and analysis in order to properly be
informed and navigate the complexity of the modern world and learn about the Philosophy of
Mathematics and Science”.

Being strong academically is only the beginning. By developing in these four areas, your child will be
ready to excel in life outside of the classroom.
Engineering Pathway
“This course will introduce Engineering concepts and then will develop their higher order thinking skills.
They will initially learn the mathematical foundations relevant for engineers and then begin to apply their
knowledge to complex, real world problems. The outcome of this course is that students will not only have
knowledge and understanding of content years above their current grade, they will be able to experience
what it is like to be an engineer. In this course, you will learn the fundamental knowledge and skills to
prepare you for not only university study in an engineering field, but real world, real life problems that
industries have to solve daily. Once you have the foundations, you will be introduced to degree level
concepts, theory and practice”.

There are 2 areas of entry: The foundational one which enters at unit 1 and ends at unit 5 and higher which
enters at unit 5 and ends at unit 7. An initial assessment will determine which area your child enters at.

Unit 1: Units and Learn about dimensional analysis and the importance of correct units and
Measurement measurement as well as error analysis.

Unit 2: Laws Go in depth into laws of Physics such as Newtons 3 laws, friction and momentum
and impulse. Expand basic distance time and speed knowledge to SUVAT
equations and vector quantities such as Velocity and Displacement.
Unit 3: Linearity and Ratio, proportion coordinate geometry and inequalities are learned here but used
rates of change in a way to derive relationships between physical quantites. Functions and linear
programming are introduced here and development of higher order problem
solving is used to construct a small mathematical model.
Unit 4: Costing The idea of a cost-benefit analysis is introduced here. Percentage knowledge is
developed further here and functions are extended to composite and inverse
functions. Compound interest is briefly introduced as an example of exponential
growth leading to the next unit of non-linearity
Unit 5: Non linearity Quadratics, logarithms and exponentials are introduced here with the application
of these to real-life Physics problems as the complexity of what can be described
mathematically increased further such as projectile motion.
Unit 6: Engineering Quantities such as stress and strain are introduced as well as higher level vectors
quantities and matrices.

Unit 7: Trigonometry Sin, cos and tan are introduced as well as graph transformations. The idea of
modelling objects on planes is introduced with the concept of resolving forces
parallel and perpendicular to planes using trigonometry and Newtons laws of
Physics.
Junior Uni
The Junior Uni courses are high level and specialized courses where students will learn degree and
Masters level content in the areas of Fluid Mechanics and Mathematical modelling. Due to the
complexity of the courses, I would require an interview with the interested student and their grades at
AS level to assess entry.
Areas that they may learn

Eulerian and Lagrangian motion

Calculus of variations
Integration
Summation of series
Finite element method
Tensors
Lagrange multipliers

What they learn and the order they learn will depend on previous knowledge and the outcome they
want from the course
