SUMMARY AND GENERALIZATIONS

During my field study, I observed and participated in various aspects of classroom teaching and
management, gaining comprehensive insights into the daily operations and dynamics of a school
environment. The study took place over a period of 3 weeks, during which I was assigned to two
mentor teachers (5 days in grade 8 and another 5 days in grade 10 excluding the holidays) and
engaged in both observational and hands-on activities.

These are the key activities I have properly observed during my practice teaching:

 Classroom observations: I observed multiple teaching styles, classroom management

techniques, and student interactions. This provided a broad perspective on effective
teaching practices and the challenges teachers face.
 Lesson planning: I was assisted by my mentor in developing lesson plans, aligning them
in curriculum standards, and ensuring they catered to diverse student needs.
 Teaching practice: I conducted 2 lessons, implementing various instructional strategies
and receiving feedback from my mentor teacher and the principal of the school.
 Assessment: I participated in creating and grading assessments, gaining insights into
evaluating student performance and providing constructive feedback.
 Classroom management: I learned and applied techniques for maintaining discipline and
fostering a positive learning environment.

Generalizations
Insight 1: Importance of Classroom Management

Reflection:
During my practicum, I realized the critical role that effective classroom management plays in
facilitating a conducive learning environment. On my first day, I struggled with maintaining
students' attention, leading to a chaotic classroom atmosphere. This experience taught me that
setting clear expectations and consistently enforcing rules are vital. I observed that when I applied
positive reinforcement, students were more engaged and motivated to participate.

Action Plan: To improve, I will implement a structured classroom management plan that
includes clear rules, consequences, and positive reinforcement strategies. I will also seek
feedback from my mentor teacher on my approach and make adjustments as needed.

Insight 2: Adapting Teaching Methods to Diverse Learning Styles

Reflection:
I noticed that students have diverse learning styles—some are visual learners, others are auditory
or kinesthetic. Initially, my lessons were heavily lecture-based, which didn't engage all students
effectively. Reflecting on this, I understood the importance of incorporating various teaching
methods to cater to different learning preferences. When I introduced group activities, visual aids,
and hands-on experiments, student engagement and comprehension improved significantly.

Action Plan: I plan to diversify my teaching methods by including more visual aids, interactive
activities, and opportunities for hands-on learning in my lesson plans. I will also regularly assess
student preferences and adapt my teaching strategies accordingly.

Insight 3: The Value of Constructive Feedback

Reflection:
Receiving constructive feedback from my mentor teacher was instrumental in my development.
After delivering a lesson on fractions, my mentor pointed out that my instructions were too
complex and suggested simplifying my explanations. This feedback helped me realize that clarity
and simplicity are crucial for effective teaching. I also learned the value of self-reflection and
being open to critique for continuous improvement.

Action Plan: I will actively seek feedback from both my mentor teacher and students to refine
my teaching practices. I will practice simplifying complex concepts and checking for
understanding frequently during lessons.

Insight 4: Building Positive Teacher-Student Relationships

Reflection: Establishing positive relationships with students was another key insight. I observed
that students were more willing to participate and take academic risks when they felt respected
and valued. Taking the time to learn about their interests and showing genuine care positively
impacted their behavior and academic performance. Reflecting on this, I understood that fostering
a supportive and inclusive classroom environment is essential for student success.

Action Plan: I will make a conscious effort to build rapport with each student by showing
interest in their lives and providing individual support as needed. I will also create a classroom
culture that celebrates diversity and encourages mutual respect.

Insight 5: The Role of Technology in Education

Reflection:
Integrating technology into my lessons significantly enhanced student engagement and learning.
For instance, using educational apps and online resources allowed for more interactive and
personalized learning experiences. This insight highlighted the importance of staying updated
with technological advancements and incorporating them into my teaching practice.

Action Plan: I will continue exploring and integrating various technological tools and resources
into my lessons. I will also participate in professional development opportunities to stay current
with the latest educational technologies and best practices.

Final Reflection (Personal Insights)

Overall, my practicum experience has been immensely rewarding and educational. I have grown
as a teacher by recognizing the importance of effective classroom management, diverse teaching
methods, constructive feedback, positive teacher-student relationships, and the integration of
technology. Moving forward, I am committed to continuously improving my teaching practice
and creating a positive impact on my students' learning experiences. I also want to give a huge
acknowledgement to all the personnel in Sirao Integrated School – all teaching and non-
teaching staffs. They have played a big role in my career growth which has helped me improve
my strengths and recalibrate my weaknesses. To my mentors, Ms. Thrisha Jean B. Nacua and
Ms. Lea M. Vibar, my immense gratitude in fortifying my inner character to become a more
effective educator. Your guidance, and mentorship are the backbone of my success, and these will
always remain as learnings until I will be able to craft my profession in the future. Reflecting on
this journey, I can see how much I have grown both personally and professionally. Throughout
the entire 80 hours, I encountered numerous situations that pushed me out of my comfort zone
and forced me to adapt and learn quickly. Initially, I was overwhelmed by the sheer responsibility
of managing a classroom, planning lessons, and meeting diverse student needs. However, as the
weeks progressed, I noticed a significant improvement in my confidence and teaching abilities. I
become more adept in creating engaging lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and using
various strategies to address different learning styles. One of the challenges I faced was
maintaining discipline while ensuring a positive and supportive classroom environment. There
were moments when student behavior was difficult to manage, and I struggled to find the right
balance between being authoritative and approachable. Through trial and error, and with the help
of my mentor teachers, I developed better classroom management routines, and positive
reinforcement strategies helped me create a more orderly and conducive learning environment.
Also, this experience has been a transformative one that has deepened my empathy towards the
professionals who are now in the field and honed my understanding of the multifaceted nature of
teaching. You need to be the strongest person you should be, to be able to deal with diverse
personalities, level of capacity and interests among students, thus as a teacher, you need to be
flexible enough to balance everything effectively without leaving one learner behind. Setting
yourself as an epitome of an ideal person to such students who have different views in life is not
easy because you need to make adjustments based on their level of understanding, and for them to
keep up with pace.

The field study provided an invaluable opportunity to bridge theory and practice, deepening my
understanding of effective teaching and classroom management. The insights gained and
generalizations formed will guide my future teaching practices, ensuring that I create an
inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment for all students and foster their
academic and personal growth. This filed study has not only prepared me for the challenges ahead
but has also ignited a passion for teaching that will drive my continuous development as an
educator. I am more than happy to be able to reach the verge of practice teaching with a mind
filled with learnings and a heart filled with merriment. Now, I get to finally say – “Charge to
experience!”.
