Overview of IBP
Integrated Business Planning has a number of applications which are each licensed
separately.
Sales and Operations planning is a core component, used in most if not all implementations. It
enables you to plan interactively or in the background via the Excel interface, or analyze your
plan via the web interface. It allows you to create your own attributes and key figures with you
own calculations and also contains basic demand planning functionality.
IBP for Demand contains advanced forecasting and demand sensing algorithms. Similarly,
IBP for Inventory has advanced inventory management functionality.
IBP for Response and Supply allows you to sort demand by priority, then plan supply to match
with a constraint based optimizer, or an unconstrained heuristic.
Supply Chain Control Tower provides visibility across all of the other components.
LESSON SUMMARY
You should now be able to:
Explain the benefits and features of planning with SAP Integrated Business Planning
LESSON OBJECTIVES
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
Describe the main functionality within SAP IBP Response and Supply planning
Most IBP components plan with „time series" - all the requirements in a particular „bucket"
e.g. week or month, are grouped together and a matching supply generated by either an
unconstrained heuristic or an optimizer that considers constraints.
IBP for Response and Supply supports this, but also allows you to plan by individual order.
You can sort the orders by their priority, then generate a single supply order against each
demand. Currently this is only possible with heuristics, but optimization is also in the
roadmap.
Integrated Business Planning for Response and Supply offers a variety of approaches that are
suitable for many industries.
You use response management to plan your company's supply and demand. This means
ensuring that you always have enough stock available, and that you can respond quickly to
any changes that might arise on short notice.
With response management, you can take care of the entire process as follows:
Create a supply plan - which can be tailored to your individual customer requirements
based on master data, transactional data, and configuration data imported from any
systems, as well as forecast information.
Control which orders will be processed first - you do this by creating rules with which to
rank customer orders by priority.
React quickly to any unforeseen supply and demand changes, using simulations (what-if
analysis) to try out potential solutions, and then update your live plan accordingly.
SAP IBP for Response and Supply can be integrated to other solutions via SAP HANA Cloud
Integration (HCI-DS) or SAP Smart Data Integration (SDI).

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
Specify, where Response and Supply planning can be used in an SCM landscape
Demand Prioritization
Depending on your business requirements, you might want to assign a higher priority to
certain orders. With response management, this is easy - all you have to do is create a rule for
that order. These rules will be applied during planning runs and simulations, so orders will
always be given the correct priority and processed accordingly. You can subsequently edit or
delete the rules at any time.
Constrained Forecasts
Early on in the planning process, it can be useful to anticipate future customer demand and
your own ability to fulfil it. This is what the constrained forecast is for - it considers the orders
that are likely to come in and then calculates how many of these orders you'll actually be able
to fulfil by taking the following into account:
Resource capacities
Sometimes an unforeseen demand might occur, and you'll need to react quickly and update
your supply plan. Simulations enable you to analyze the root cause of the problem and then
experiment with as many different solutions as you want without affecting your live data.
Once you've settled on a course of action, you'll be given an instruction sheet containing all
the guidelines you (or a colleague) need to update the live order. The instruction sheet is
available online and can be shared with as many relevant colleagues as necessary. You can
also download it as an Excel file.
A gating factor is anything that prevents you from fulfilling an order or forecast demand on
time - for example, insufficient stock or manufacturing capacity. With response management
you can analyze these gating factors and devise solutions to overcome them.
By acquiring more familiarity with your supply chain in this way, you can also make any
necessary changes that might prevent those gating factors from arising in future.

You can find two different categories of sample planning areas: application specific planning
areas and the integrated planning area.
The template planning area SAP7 has been designed to support response management
functionality and can be used as a sample or starting point for according implementation
projects.
The SAP IBP data model has two data stores — the time-series store and the order store.

General Points
Attributes are used to represent individual entities in the supply chain e.g. product or
customer.
They are grouped together in master data types, which have at least one attribute as the key,
with the other attributes assigned to them. For example LOCATION may be the key field with
the COUNTRY it is located in, stored as a dependent attribute. Master data is loaded to the
master data types, for example all the customers and their dependent countries.
Master data types are used to build planning levels within planning areas. A number of
attributes from each MDT can be assigned to each level, which then decides their granularity.
Key figures store numeric data and must be assigned to a „base planning level" thereby using
it's particular granularily.
For example CONSENSUSDEMAND is stored at PERPRODCUST LEVE - so it contains values
for each product/customer/period combination.

Explain the difference between SAP 7 planning area and unified planning area
Planning Area
For IBP for Response and Supply the standard planning area SAP7 is suitable as an
application-specific planning area.
Note there are many good reasons to use a standard SAP planning area for IBP.
This planning area only has days and weeks in the time profile.
The standard planning operator "COPYFORECASTTOPAL" can be used to copy constrained
forecast to product allocation. The level of product allocation key figure is always the same as
the level of the constrained forecast key figure.
Planning operators use an algorithm to compute large amounts of key figure data inside a
planning session.
Time profiles allow a flexible definition of the time-related reporting granularity by defining
levels that represent time periods.
You can upload time periods you have predefined in CSV files.
To generate time periods by job, use the Fiori app Application Jobs.
Use the job template Creation of Time Periods for Time Profile” to assign the corresponding
levels and schedule the job.
The storage profile used for SAP7 consists of days and weeks only. Monthly buckets are
not used

Demand Prioritization Overview
The demands that enter the system need to be prioritized for order fulfillment based on
the business requirements:
The rules are set up to prioritize the demands
Demand Prioritization Rules optimize Rules network and provide best possible Order
fulfillment for the Customers. The demand prioritization rules should be aligned with Business
goals of my company.
For example, give higher priority to regular customers who buy in bulk.
The figure shows how priority rules and segmentation are applied to sort the demands
accordingly.
Every rule consists of one or several segments, and every segment has a sequence. Based on
sort attributes in the segments, the demands are sorted accordingly.
The Rules for Demand Prioritization app supports you in defining rules and segments used for
demand prioritization. The selected rule is applied by the planning run.
The app provides an overview of all the rules, the segments, and the attributes. Choose the
business role Account Planner to perform the according tasks.

Constrained Forecast Run 80
UNIT OBJECTIVES
LESSON OBJECTIVES
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
A gating factor is anything that prevents you from fulfilling an order or forecast demand on
time – for example, insufficient stock or manufacturing capacity. With response management
you can analyze these gating factors and devise solutions to overcome them. By acquiring
more familiarity with your supply chain in this way, you can also make any necessary changes
that might prevent those gating factors from arising in future.
There are six gating factor types: Supplier constraint, product allocation, lead time, projected
stock, resource, and supply chain model.
As a supply planner you can filter both gating factors and primary demands to get an overview
about their dependencies.
In the View Gating Factors app you see all gating factors together with information about the
affected sales orders or forecast demands.
From the app you can navigate to the Analyze Demand app to check the gating factors for a
single primary demand.
Use the View Confirmation app to review your relevant gating factors together with the
confirmation status.
Gating factor analysis is possible with the applications View Confirmations and Analyze
Orders.
Gating factor analysis can be done by calculating the requested date, checking for capacity
and checking for materials.

LESSON OBJECTIVES
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
Confirmation Run
Definition of the Confirmation Run
The confirmation run in IBP for response and supply is the basic planning run to plan sales
orders. It also considers open forecasts, fixed requirements and receipts (stock) from
execution and safety stock.
The confirmation run creates, when necessary, multi-level receipts and considers the
different valid sources of supplies available. Constraints considered in the confirmation run
are:
Resource Capacities
Product Allocations
Additionally, the confirmation run creates new confirmation proposals for sales orders.
Product Allocations
Product allocations are generated by the process “Create Product Allocation and Supply
Plan based on Priority” or created manually.
Product allocation becomes a constrained check for sales order confirmation when the
product allocation quantity is less than the requested quantity.
Product allocation becomes an unconstrained check for sales order confirmation when the
product allocation quantity is equal to or more than the requested quantity.
Note:
The confirmation of the sales order is limited to the lesser of supply and product
allocation quantity
You can use the application “View Projected Stock” to analyze the projected stock for all
location materials in your supply chain. You can focus on location materials with supply issues
in a certain horizon. For a location material you get details about the projected stock and the
corresponding supply elements in the element view, the periodic view and the chart.
The application allows you to simulate changes on existing supply elements or simulate new
supply to resolve stock issues.
You select the order network to understand the pegging and the mapped supply to the
selected demand
In this first step given in the figure you view the confirmations.
In this step you analyze the demand and order network, along with the pegging relationships.
