PEEM3203 – Petroleum Production Engineering

Assignment 1 submission date 22nd March 2024

Question 1

Given:

Reservoir pressure, Pr (= Ps) = 3,000 psia

Well flow pressure, Pwf = 1,000 psia
Bubble point pressure, Pb = 2,000 psia
Oil flow rate, qo = 1,000 bpd
Flowing wellhead pressure = 200 psia
Depth = 5,000 ft
GLR = 800 SCF/bbl
Tubing ID = 3 inch
Oil Gravity = 35oAPI
Gas specific gravity = 0.75

a) Draw the IPR

b) Determine the well capacity of the well.
c) Plot the vertical lift performance (VLP) and determine the optimum flow rate for this
well.
d) If the above tubings are available for VLP, use the Gilbert for 0.25 inches and 0.75
inches choke and determine the optimum choke size
e) Whats the optimum flow rate of the well.

Question 2

Given:
Static reservoir pressure, psi = 3520
Bubble point pressure, psi = 1725
Bottomhole flowing pressure, psi = 1920
Production rate,BPD = 120
i. Determine the Productivity Index that is valid if Pwf > Pb.
ii. Calculate the oil rate if Pwf = Pb.
iii. Calculate the maximum oil rate.
iv. Plot IPR

Question 3

A solution gas drive reservoir has been drilled and the following data has been derived for the reservoir
at 7000 ft TVD. Initial reservoir pressure is 4000 psi, which is the bubble point pressure of the
reservoir. Initial well tests indicate that the well is capable of steady state gross production rate of 12,000 bbl/day
at a flowing Bottomhole Pressure (FBHP) of 3,450 psi.

7” tubing (of 6.366” ID) is available

Gas Liquid Ratio = 1.0 Mcf/bbl
Water cut = 0%

At what rate will the well flow at a THP of 900 psi. Use both methods (Method 1 and Method 2) of VLP.

Question 4

From the given well data construct an inflow performance relationship (IPR) curve for years 2024 and 2030
and determine the well potential respectively if the bubble point pressure is 2500 psi.

Parameter 2024 2030

Static reservoir pressure, psig 2300 1750

Bottom hole flowing pressure, psig 1300 -
Production rate, BPD 800 -
Oil viscosity, cp 3.0 3.1
Oil formation volume factor, bbl/STB 1.2 1.16
Residual oil saturation, % 15.0 15.0
Initial water saturation, % 20 20.0
Oil saturation, % 65.0 55.0
Formation constant 2.0 2.0
n(constant) 4.0 4.0
Based on the constructed IPR curves, determine
i. Bottom hole flowing pressure required to produce 1000BPD in 2024 and 2030
ii. Production rate at bottom flowing pressure of 1000 psi in 2024 and 2030
iii. Can a well produce 1100BPD at bottomhole flowing pressure of 1000 psi
iv. Can well produce 500BPD at 500psi bottom hole flowing pressure in 2020
