WHAT I HAVE LEARNED
List 5 properties of normal distributions
1. Symmetry
2. Mean, median, and mode are all equal
3. 68% of data falls within one standard deviation of the mean
4. 95% of data falls within two standard deviations of the mean
5. 99.7% of data falls within three standard deviations of the mean
State the empirical rule.
6. State the empirical rule.
The empirical rule states that for a normal distribution, nearly all
of the data will fall within three standard deviations of the mean.
The rule is broken down as follows: 68% of data falls within the
first standard deviation from the mean, 95% fall within two
standard deviations, and 99.7% fall within three standard
deviations.
Construct a normal curve.
A normal curve, also known as a bell curve or Gaussian
distribution is a probability distribution that is symmetric about
the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in
occurrence than data far from the mean.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED LESSON 2
For finding the probability using the standard normal curve:
STEP 1: Identify the given value (X) for which you want to find the
probability and the mean (u) and standard deviation (0) of the
distribution.
STEP 2: Calculate the Z-score for the given value
using the formula Z = (X - M) / o.
STEP 3: Use the Z-score to find the corresponding probability from
the standard normal distribution table (Z-table) or by using a
calculator with normal distribution functions.
And for finding the Z-score:
STEP 1: Determine the value (X) for which you want to find the Z-
score, as well as the mean (u) and standard deviation (0) of the
distribution.
STFP 2• Suhtract the mean (1) from the value (X)
STEP 3: Use the Z-score to find the corresponding probability from
the standard normal distribution table (Z-table) or by using a
calculator with normal distribution functions.
And for finding the Z-score:
STEP 1: Determine the value (X) for which you want to find the Z-
score, as well as the mean (u) and standard deviation (o) of the
distribution.
STEP 2: Subtract the mean (u) from the value (X).
STEP 3: Divide the result from step 2 by the standard deviation (o).
STEP 4: The quotient obtained in step 3 is the Z-score
WHAT I CAN DO LESSON 2
The Z-score for Liza's score in Statistics is 2, and the Z-score for her
score in Mathematics is 2.5.
Since the Z-score measures the number of standard deviations an
element is from the mean, a higher Z-score indicates a better
standing relative to the mean. Therefore, Liza's standing is better
in Mathematics compared to Statistics, as her score in
Mathematics is 2.5 standard deviations above the mean, while her
score in Statistics is 2 standard deviations above the
mean.
Therefore, Liza's standing is better in Mathematics.
