The practical training covers higher-level riding skills such as (a) balancing and low speed control; (b) blind spot, turning and lane-changing; (c) braking in different conditions; (d) deceleration after acceleration; and (e) vehicle handling with backrider. Safe-T-Ryders is established by Arnel Doria, a respected marketing executive who played a key role in establishing Honda as a leading car brand in the Philippines and was instrumental in setting up the countrys first integrated vehicle training center, the Honda Safety Driving Center. The center manager is Julius Ballesteros, a TESDA-certified instructor, who has just returned from a two-year stint as a safety driving instructor of a large Saudi Arabian company. He is assisted by Sulfikar Guiabel, an experienced LTOaccredited riding/driving instructor. Those who wish to enrol in any of the Safe-TRyders courses may call 208-8035 or (932) 8723389. ainit na usapan ngayon sa mga riders ang blue lane o motorcycle lane sa Macapagal at Commonwealth Avenues na ipinatupad ng MMDA kamakailan. Sabi ng GRSP: Motorcyclists contribute to many fatal road crashes. In some Asian countries they count up to 80-90%. Motorcycle riders have often high-risk thresholds and limited training. Often, problems stem from human error resulting in a conict either by the rider or another driver, or there is just not enough time for the rider/driver to avoid the collision whatever the level of skill. One effective technique to tackle the problem is to separate the motorcyclists from the other motorized trafc. A recent study by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research has shown that 3.80 meters is the safe control width in Malaysia para maging ligtas sa mga riders at may sapat na puwang sa overtaking. What we want to accomplish here is to minimize the accidents caused by motorcycle riders that constantly change lanes, sabi ni MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino. We also believe that trafc will ow much faster if motorcycles will stick to their own lane.

MMDAS MOTORCYCLE LANE . . . contd

Kailangan naka helmet, long pants, jacket or jersey at closed shoes din. Kailangan ay walang space in between the rider and the backrider. The backrider should be looking over the right shoulder ng rider upang hindi matakpan ang left o overtaking side kung kailangan nitong mag HEAD CHECK. For our own safety at sa mga mahal nating chickiting who really cant hold on enough to sustain any crash, sumunod na lang tayo. And lastly, nag iiba na ang behavior ng ating motor whenever we have a backrider. For example, ang ating mga BRAKES. Braking effectiveness is not the same as when riding alone, dahil sa added load weight ng angkas. Remember, your passenger is your responsibility. Ride more defensively kapag may angkas. For more information, bumisita lamang sa SaFE T rydErs Training CEnTEr. See you!

The motorcycles lanes are non-exclusive designated lanes; light vehicles like cars can use it if there are no motorcycles in sight, Tolentino said. But it is off-limits to trucks and buses. One hundred meters is too short to make the turn, especially if there are a lot of vehicles on the road, ani MCPF director Atoy Sta. Cruz. If youre sharing the road with other vehicles, the distance should be 200 meters, at least. (Arnel Doria)

RIDING GEAR
RIDING BOOTS:
di lang porma
apag sumakay sa motor, dapat naka SAPATOS o RIDING BOOTS. Kailangan ng proteksyon sa mga paa dahil this is the part of our body nearest to the ground. And lastly, gawa sa leather or padded materials for maximum protection.

Know Your Traffic Signs
