followed by their indirect speech equivalents:

1. Event: I am studying for an exam.

Indirect Speech: I studied for an exam.

2. Event: I have just finished eating lunch.

Indirect Speech: I had just finished eating lunch.

3. Event: I will attend a concert tonight.

Indirect Speech: I was to attend a concert that night.

4. Event: I am feeling tired today.

Indirect Speech: I felt tired that day.

5. Event: I have been practicing yoga for three years.

Indirect Speech: I had been practicing yoga for three years.

6. Event: I will visit my grandparents next weekend.

Indirect Speech: I was to visit my grandparents the following weekend.


7. Event: I am excited about the upcoming festival.

Indirect Speech: I was excited about the upcoming festival.

8. Event: I have just received a new phone.

Indirect Speech: I had just received a new phone.

9. Event: I will take a trip to Japan next year.

Indirect Speech: I was to take a trip to Japan the following year.

10. Event: I am feeling happy today.

Indirect Speech: I felt happy that day.

In indirect speech, the verb tense is changed to reflect the time of speaking, and the quotation
marks are removed. This form is used to report what someone said in the past, rather than to quote
them directly.
