1.2 Safety instructions

Risk to your own safety and the safety of others if you do not follow the assembly instructions

– Before you start assembly, read the assembly instructions carefully.

Vehicle damage due to improper assembly.

– All mechanical and electrical connections must be checked for proper seating and
installation.
– Have repairs or replacement of parts carried out by a specialist company.

TIP:
The Audi rear view camera must be installed by a specialist workshop. Special tools and additional, vehicle-
specific literature are required for assembly. Improper installation can lead to damage to the vehicle or the
Audi rear view camera.

The work to be carried out on the vehicle described in these installation instructions may change due to
model maintenance measures. Thus, e.g. B. Changes to the plug connections, the cable colors or the

1.3 Repair instructions

1.3.1 Contact corrosion

Contact corrosion can occur if inappropriate fasteners (screws, nuts, washers) are used.

For this reason, only connecting elements with a special surface coating are installed.

Furthermore, rubber or plastic parts and adhesives are made of electrically non-conductive materials.

If you have any doubts about the suitability of parts, generally use new parts⇒Electronic parts catalog.

Note:

◆ We only recommend original spare parts, which are tested and compatible with aluminum.

◆ We recommend using Audi accessories.

◆ Damage caused by contact corrosion is not covered by the warranty.

1.3.2 Cable harness laying and fastening

CAUTION

Restricted function of the airbag due to improper cable routing or damage to cables.

– Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components (see Rep. Group 69).
– Do not pinch the airbag when installing it.
– Lay the retrofit cable set behind the airbag and secure it accordingly.
– In the interior, due to the narrow building conditions, ensure there is sufficient clearance to
all moving components.

3.2 Installing the rear view camera on the vehicle

Only applies to Audi Q5, Audi A6 Avant/Allroad and Audi A4
Avant/Allroad

– Install the rear view camera in the push button for flap lock
operation.
– Divide the hose of the windscreen cleaning system for the rear
window using the supplied Y-pipe for the camera and
windscreen.

Only applies to Audi A4 Sedan, A5 Sportback and A5

Coupé
– Replace the push button for flap lock operation without
camera with the included push button for flap lock
operation with camera.

Only applies to Audi A5 Cabriolet

– Replace the old handle bar with the handle bar, safety
bracket and screw provided.

– Install the included reversing camera into the new

handlebar using the safety clip.

Only applies to Audi A6 Sedan and A7

– Seal the connection of the camera cleaning system with
sealing cord AKD 497.010.04R10.
– To do this, form a small ball -2- and use it to seal the
opening of the spray nozzle.

3.3 Assembly of Y-pipe

Only applies to Audi Q5, Audi A6 Avant/Allroad and Audi A4
Avant/Allroad

– Remove the hose from the rear wiper/washer system.

– Attach the Y pipe to the hose. Make sure it is firmly seated.

– Attach one side of the Y-pipe to the rear wiper/washer

system.
– Attach the second side of the Y-pipe to the push button/
handle for rear view camera cleaning.
– Check the system for leaks!

3.4 Lay the wiring harness to the rear view

camera

Applies to Audi Q5, A5 Sportback and A7 left-hand drive

– Lay the wiring harness with the plug connections for the rear
view camera from the vehicle interior via the grommet into the
tailgate.

Applies to Audi A4/A6 Avant Allroad left-hand drive

– Lay the cable for the rear view camera -2- along the standard
wiring harness -1- and secure it with cable ties to prevent it
from slipping -arrows-.

Notice
Lay the cable for the rear view camera on the standard wiring
harness as shown in the picture to avoid damage.

Applies to Audi Q5, A5 Sportback and A7 right-hand drive

– Lay the wiring harness with the plug connections for the rear
view camera from the vehicle interior via the grommet into the
tailgate.

Applies to Audi A4/A6 Avant Allroad right-hand drive

– Lay the cable for the rear view camera -2- along the standard
wiring harness -1- and secure it with cable ties to prevent it
from slipping -arrows-.

Notice
Lay the cable for the rear view camera on the standard wiring
harness as shown in the picture to avoid damage.

Only applies to Audi A4 Sedan, A5 Coupé and A5 Cabriolet, A6

Sedan left-hand drive, right-hand drive
– Position the wiring harness in the area of the reversing
camera and route it into the vehicle interior via the tailgate
hinge.

TIP:
Depending on the vehicle variant, a standard wiring set may
or may not be installed on the tailgate hinge.

If a standard wiring harness is available, attach the reversing

camera wiring harness to it using the cable ties provided.

If there is no standard wiring harness, attach the reversing

camera wiring harness as follows!

Applies to left-hand drive vehicle variant

– Insert cable tie clips into the holes on the tailgate hinge
- 1- insert. If there are no holes, position adhesive pads -1- in
the same place.

– Fix the reversing camera wiring harness to the tailgate hinge

using the cable ties provided, either using cable tie clips or
adhesive pads -2 and 3-.
– Additionally fasten the rear view camera wiring harness to the
side of the tailgate hinge with a cable tie -4- to prevent
damage from the tailgate return spring.

– Fasten the rear view camera wiring harness in the upper area
of the vehicle interior using a cable tie clip -5-. If there is no
hole, use an adhesive pad -5- in the same place and secure
it with a cable tie.

– Lay the wiring harness further along the next series wiring
harness and secure it with cable ties.

Applies to right-hand drive vehicle variant

– Insert cable tie clips into the holes on the tailgate hinge
- 1- insert. If there are no holes, position adhesive pads -1- in

– Fix the reversing camera wiring harness to the tailgate hinge

using the cable ties provided, either using cable tie clips or
adhesive pads -2 and 3-.
– Additionally fasten the rear view camera wiring harness to the
side of the tailgate hinge with a cable tie -4- to prevent
damage from the tailgate return spring.

– Fasten the rear view camera wiring harness in the upper area
of the vehicle interior using a cable tie clip -5-. If there is no
hole, use an adhesive pad -5- in the same place and secure
it with a cable tie.

– Lay the wiring harness further along the next series wiring
harness and secure it with cable ties.

3.5 Install and connect the plug for the

rear view camera wiring harness

Continue for all vehicles

– Plug the free cable for video transmission into the
included connector housing 6Q0 035 576 F.
– Plug the 4 free cables for the power supply of the rear view
camera into the supplied 8-pin connector housing 8K0 971
833 as follows.

TIP
The illustration shows the single-pin side of connector 8K0 971 833.

– Insert the foam grommets over the two connectors of the rear
view camera.
– Connect the two plugs for video transmission of the wiring
harness to the rear view camera -A- -direction of arrow-.
– Secure plug connections with foam grommets and cable ties
to prevent noise.
– Secure the cable set with cable ties to prevent noise.

4.1 Connect the wiring harness to the diagnostic interface for data bus -J533-

A NOTICE

On vehicles that do not have pins (cables) assigned to chambers 30 and 12 on plug -A-, the free
cable (orange/brown for chambers 30 and1)for chamber 12) from the rear view camera retrofit
cable set must be pinned directly into connector -A-.
– Plug the enclosed connector housing (1C0.973.119.B) into the black connector housing
(3D0.973.332) on the rear view camera retrofit cable set to protect against contact, fix the
cables to the cable harness and secure them against noise.

4.4 Final work

– Reassemble the vehicle in reverse order.
– Connect the battery.⇒Electrical system; Rep. Gr. 27; Battery; Disconnect and connect the battery

If the battery is reconnected, the following measures must be carried out:

◆ Activate the automatic up/down function of the electric windows⇒Operation manual.

◆ Synchronize a second or additional key to ensure the function of the radio remote control. To do this,
insert the key into the ignition lock, switch the ignition on and off again and remove the key.

TIP
After reconnecting the power supply, the ESP warning light may only go out after driving a few meters.

– Carry out activation measures for the rear view camera.

– Carry out a functional test of the rear view camera and the PDC.
