1. Problem Statement:
Maintaining a healthy diet tailored to individual needs can be challenging,
especially for individuals following specific dietary preferences such as pure
vegetarian, non-vegetarian, or vegan lifestyles. Moreover, calculating daily
nutritional requirements based on factors like Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR),
age, sex, and activity level can be complex and time-consuming. Therefore,
there is a need for a digital solution that simplifies meal planning and provides
personalized dietary recommendations for individuals based on their dietary
preferences and nutritional needs.
2. Title of Project:
NutriGenie: Personalized Digital Dietician App/Portal
3. Objective & Key Learnings:
Objective: The primary objective of this project is to develop a digital dietician
app or portal, NutriGenie, that provides personalized dietary recommendations
for individuals based on their dietary preferences (pure vegetarian, non-
vegetarian, vegan) and nutritional requirements determined by factors such as
BMR, age, sex, and activity level.
Key Learnings:
Understanding the principles of nutrition and dietary requirements for
different individuals based on factors such as BMR, age, sex, and activity
level.
Implementation of algorithms to calculate BMR and daily nutritional
needs based on user inputs and demographic information.
Development of user-friendly interfaces for inputting dietary preferences
and personal information.
Integration of a comprehensive food database containing nutritional
information for various foods, including pure vegetarian, non-vegetarian,
and vegan options.
Incorporation of machine learning techniques to refine dietary
recommendations based on user feedback and dietary patterns.
4. Options Available to Execute the Project:
Several options exist for executing the project:
Utilizing programming languages such as Python and frameworks like
Django or Flask to develop the backend infrastructure and algorithms for
calculating BMR and nutritional requirements.
Integrating third-party APIs or databases containing nutritional
information for various foods to facilitate meal planning and
recommendation generation.
Developing a mobile application for NutriGenie to enhance user
accessibility and convenience, or creating a web-based portal accessible
across different devices.
Implementing user authentication and data encryption mechanisms to
ensure data security and privacy.
5. Advantages/Disadvantages:
Advantages:
Personalized recommendations: NutriGenie provides personalized dietary
recommendations tailored to individual preferences and nutritional needs,
promoting healthier eating habits.
Convenience: The digital platform simplifies meal planning and tracking,
saving time and effort for users.
Flexibility: Users can choose from a variety of dietary preferences (pure
vegetarian, non-vegetarian, vegan) and adjust their meal plans
accordingly.
Educational: NutriGenie educates users about nutrition and dietary
requirements, empowering them to make informed food choices.
Disadvantages:
Dependency on user input: The accuracy of dietary recommendations
depends on the accuracy of user inputs regarding demographic
information, dietary preferences, and activity level.
Potential limitations: NutriGenie's recommendations may not account for
individual allergies, intolerances, or medical conditions that require
specific dietary restrictions.
Technical challenges: Developing and maintaining a comprehensive food
database and implementing accurate algorithms for calculating nutritional
requirements may pose technical challenges.
Privacy concerns: Collecting and storing user data, including personal
and dietary information, raises privacy concerns and requires robust data
protection measures.
