LIBRARY POLICY
VISION
St.Joseph's School of Mactan pursue Integral human formation anchored on
Gospel values to enable the Youth to Become Effective Instrument for social
transformation.
MISSION
Inspired by our vision, we commit ourselves to provide relevant programs and
services to form our school community to be God loving,
evangelizing and responsible members of society.
In keeping with our Franciscan tradition, we continue to be moved by God's
goodness, wisdom and love to be caring and nurturing community.
OBJECTIVES
1. To meet the needs of all pupils' students and faculties selected and
well-organized collection supporting the curricular and programs of basic
education.
2. To develop and maintain a dynamic and discriminating program for the
identification, selection and acquisition of library materials to fulfill the
library major responsibility of supporting the curricular.
3. To provide a physical government suitable and conducive to research
and study.

Monday-Friday 7:30 AM-5:00 PM
Saturday-8:00 - 12:00 Noon - (Half day)
LIBRARY RESOURCES
The library resources, which are geared primary towards the needs of the academic
community include books, periodicals, pamphlets, magazine, and vertical
materials .The collection primary serves the instructional, cultural, and cultural
and research needs of the teachers, students and pupils.
A.BOOKS:
1. Fictions
2. Non- fiction
• 2.1. Books on the different subject fields
• 2.2. General Reference
• 2.2.1. Dictionaries both specialized and general.
• 2.2.2. Encyclopedias like dictionaries, and specialized and general.
• 2.2.3. Geographical Sources such as atlases, maps, and guidebooks.
• 2.2.4. Yearbooks and Almanacs
B.PERIODICALS
Magazines and journal and similar publications are called periodical.
These are issued periodically or as stated intervals.
The periodical collection of the library consists of journals, magazines,
newspapers, and the materials kept by similar publications that have learning on
the field of study.
Vertical File Collection:
These consist of clippings from newspapers and periodicals and materials kept in
folders or envelop and filed alphabetically by subjects.
ARRANGEMENT:
BOOKS:
SJS-M library adopt the Dewey Decimal Clarification System in organizing the
library resources, especially books and periodicals.
Fiction books are arranged alphabetically and according author number.
Non-fiction Books are arranged in the shelves according to class numbers.
PERIODICALS:
Current periodicals are displayed in a magazine rock.
CARD CATALOGING:
A card cataloging is an index to the library collection.
The card catalogue consist of 3X5 inches cards. These are several types of cards:
Author, Title, Subject, as well as analytic card and cross reference cards.
LIBRARY SERVICES
A.ACQUISITION:
Library materials are acquired through purchases and donations.
Library materials are ordered from local bookstores or from publishers.
Administrators, faculty members and other knowledgeable parties help in the
acquisition of materials by recommending books which they them necessary for
instruction.
B. READERS ADVISORY SERVICE:
The particular service is extended to assist the clientele in gathering needed
library materials as well as building bibliographies, making footnotes and
selecting titles for term papers and other assignments.
.BIBLIOGRAPHIC SERVICE:
Bibliographic listings of books on different subject areas are prepared upon
request.
Newly acquired books are promoted among pupils/students by posting them on the
bulletin board.
D.) LIBRARY INSTRUCTION:
Library instruction is conducted by the school librarian for pupils/student at the
beginning of the school year promote better and more fruitful use of library
resources and facilities.
E.PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION:
Publicity and promotion of library resources and facilities are done through the
use of bulletin board.
"LIBRARY RULES AND REGULATION"
1. Strictly observe of all times.
2. Library is mainly for research, study and reading. Eating, sleeping
and working industrial work are not allowed.
3. Handle library materials carefully.
4. Acts of vandalism of the books are punishable by suspension of
privilege.
5. Push the chair slowly under the table when you leave the library.
6. Periodical materials can be read only inside the library.
7. The use of cellphones in strictly prohibited in the library .But
they can use bring their own lop tap.
8. Books on the General References and other selected books are not
allowed to be borrowed overnight due to its limited number of copies but it may
borrow for photocopying purposes.
“LOANS”
Borrowers are required to present their student ID. In the swiping machine in order
to enter the library.
And also your student ID also used borrowing books.
1. General reference books, book in sets (e.g encyclopias) newspapers,
magazines and other periodical materials (loose or bound) cannot be borrowed for
use inside the library only.
2. Only two (2) books at a time may borrow for overnight use.
They are issued at 3:00 p.m. and must be returned by 9:000 A.M. Of the following
class day.
1. You can borrowed fiction books for five (5) days and non-fiction
books three (3) days.
2. Library users must be examine the borrow book or reading materials
for damage before leaving the library.
3. Loans are suspended one (1) week before the final examination.
4. When a book is lost, the borrower should report the lost immediately
to the librarian. The borrower has to replace the lost book with the same title or
pay the amount of the lost book.
5. The following provision shall be apply in case of overdue books
• ) No borrowing privileges are extended to the borrowers with overdue
books
• ) A fine of P 2.00 a day is charged for overdue books.
• } A fine of P 3.00 a day is charged for a recalled book which is not
returned promptly.
• ) Overdue books may not be renewed.
SERVICES
1. Library Orientation
The librarian gives orientation to the pupils/students on the rules an regulation,
library hours, collections, services of the library at the start of classes. The
librarian coordinates with the English teachers.
1. Library InstructionThe Librarian gives formal and informal library
skills to students on how to make use of the Library resources.
2. Reference/ Information ServiceThe library staffs assists and
provides library users who are in need for their research.
3. Circulation ServiceCirculation service allows students, teachers,
and staff to obtain books for home use.
4. Internet StationsInternet is accessible to students to their
research and encoding provided that their USB mustBe scanned to avoid viruses to
the computer units
LIBRARY UTILIZATION
Library Services is rendered on a strictly impartial basis to all individuals and
groups in the school.
