Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:
The Tale of the Rat and the Crab
Once upon a time there was a rat and a crab. They were great friends.
One day, they went to the forest to get firewood. They walked through the
wood. It was a warm, sunny day.
Soon, they saw a papaya tree. It was laden with ripe fruit. They
wanted to eat the fruit. But who would climb up and get it? The crab said,
“Let me climb up first.” So the crab decided to go up. Halfway up, one of
his legs broke. He climbed back down. The rat climbed all the way up. He
grabbed the fruit and started eating it. The crab was on the ground, watching
the rat enjoying the juicy fruit. He asked him, “Aren’t you going to share it
with me?”
The crab felt upset and betrayed when he saw the rat eating the juicy
fruit. The crab then left the rat and went on his way. While walking beside
the stream he saw a fish. It was a big red snapper fish. He caught the fish
and brought it up. While he was getting the fish, the rat caught up with him
and saw the red snapper fish. The rat said, “That looks delicious.”
The crab said to him, “It is. Your juicy papaya looked delicious too.
Even though you didn’t share it with me, I will still share my fish. But only
if you promise to share whatever you have.”
They agreed on it and left together with a delicious meal waiting to be
eaten.
