How can one apply to K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research (SIMSR)? (a ) To apply for admission to SIMSR for the two year full time PGDM / PGDM (IB) / PGDM (RM) / PGDM (FS) /PGDM (Exec) programmes, the candidate is required to appear for the competitive entrance tests as given in the table below :

8. Can a student apply for PGDM & PGDM ( IB ) course after 31st Dec 2011 ? Ans. NO. Candidates desiring to apply for PGDM & PGDM ( IB ) programmes have to apply before 31st Dec 2011.

Is the application fee for PGDM, PGDM (IB), PGDM (FS), PGDM (RM), PGDM(Exec) programmes same? Ans. NO. For the first form the application fee is Rs 1650/-. For every subsequent form filled up by the candidate, an additional fee per form of Rs 500/- will have to be paid. Below is the fee structure of application form of all the PGDM courses:One form : Rs 1650 /Two forms : Rs 1650 + Rs 500 = Rs 2150/Three forms : Rs 1650 + Rs 500 + Rs 500 = Rs 2650 /Four forms : Rs 1650 + Rs 500 + Rs 500 + Rs 500 = Rs 3150/Five forms : Rs 1650 + Rs 500 + Rs 500 + Rs 500 + Rs 500 = Rs 3650/10. 11. What are the specializations offered for the PGDM Programmes? Ans. The specializations offered for the PGDM programme in the second year is in the area of Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Operations & Supply Chain Management. The courses of PGDM (IB), PGDM (FS), PGDM (RM), PGDM (Exec) are specialized courses in themselves and no further sub specializations are offered for the same in the second year. 12. Ans. What is Dual Specialization in the PGDM programme? The Institute allows meritorious students of PGDM the option of Dual Specialization, wherein they can opt for subjects from two different areas of specialization in the second year. This facility is available subject to a minimum of 20 students applying for a particular combination of specializations. The courses of PGDM (IB), PGDM (FS), PGDM (RM), PGDM (Exec) are specialized courses in themselves and there is no concept of dual specializations in the second year.

What are the Student Exchange Programmes available at SIMSR ? The Institute has entered into strategic alliances for student exchange programme with Asian Institute of Technology Bangkok, Deakin University Australia, Vaasa University Finland, Nyenrode Business Universiteit, The Netherlands. All PGDM / PGDM ( IB ) / PGDM ( RM ) / PGDM ( FS ) students can avail facilities of these exchange programmes in the second year of the course. The students are selected for these exchange programmes based on their merit, first year PGDM marks and any other qualifying exam like GMAT which a University may require. Students who are selected for the exchange programme may spend a year / semester / trimester of their study in the second year at the chosen university. All expenses for this exchange programme are to be borne by the student themselves. The approximate expenses are in the range of Rs 6-10 Lakh, depending upon the fee of the University, period of study and the student lifestyle. Students of PGDM ( Executive ) will be given an option of an International Immersion programme through universities in Europe and USA. The duration of this may be of 2 4 weeks and expenses are to be borne by the students.
14. What is the admission criterion for the various PGDM Programmes? Ans. Basic criteria for PGDM / PGDM ( IB ) / PGDM ( RM ) / PGDM ( FS ) : The candidate must hold a Bachelors degree of minimum 3 years duration with minimum 50% marks, from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. Candidates appearing for the final year degree examination in the year 2012 can also apply subject to furnishing the proof of graduation on or by 31st July 2012, failing which the student will forfeit his / her admission.
Basic criteria for PGDM ( Executive ) : The candidate must hold a Bachelors degree of minimum 3 years duration with minimum 50% marks, from any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational
Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. In addition, the candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of work experience after completing his graduation degree.
15. Can students in the final year of their graduation apply ? Ans. Yes. Candidates appearing for the final year degree examination in the year 2012 can also apply for PGDM / PGDM ( IB ) / PGDM ( RM ) / PGDM ( FS ) courses subject to furnishing the proof of graduation by 31st July, 2012.
16. Is there any age limit to apply? Ans. For PGDM, PGDM (IB), PGDM (FS) and PGDM (RM) , students below 30 years are preferred. However, there is no age limit for PGDM (Exec).
17. What is the selection process? Ans. After being short listed for GD/PI on the basis of scores obtained in the qualifying exams mentioned in Question No. 3, the call letters are sent by email. The Institute reserves the right to use any other criteria other than the scores in the qualifying exam, for the purpose of short listing the candidates, and the decision of the Institute will be final. The GD/PI will be held in the month of March / April in Delhi, Bengaluru , Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Management reserves the right to cancel any of the venues for GD/PI. However, if there is any change, the candidates will be informed accordingly by email and the details will be displayed on the Institute website http://simsr.somaiya.edu. The selected candidates will be informed by post / email of their final selection and the results will be posted on the Institute website. Final selection is based on the following parameters: Score in Qualifying Exam + Group Discussion ( if applicable )+ Personal Interview + Past Academic Performance + Work Experience + Written Communication Test + Statement of Purpose ( if applicable ).

What is the general cut off percentile to qualify for the second stage of the admission process comprising of Group Discussion (GD) & Personal Interview (PI) etc? Ans. This varies from year to year.

21. Is there a Bank Loan assistance provided to the finally selected candidates? Ans. Yes, SIMSR provides the necessary documents and other details required by the bank for obtaining the Educational Loan. Details of Bank Loan schemes are available on the Institute website.
22. Is there a hostel facility available? Ans. Yes, the hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls. It is mandatory for all the PGDM & PGDM (IB), PGDM (RM), PGDM (FS), PGDM (Exec) students to stay in the hostel as it is a fully residential programme.
23. When is the GD-PI process conducted? Ans. The GD-PI process is usually conducted in the month of March in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Management reserves the right to change the month for conduct of GD-PI. However, if there is a change, the candidate will be informed accordingly. The Institute reserves the right to conduct second round of GD-PI process for PGDM (RM), PGDM (FS), PGDM (Exec) in Mumbai or some other centers in the month of April, 2012.
24. Do students need to clear any medical test? Ans. Yes. After admission, all the students have to undergo medical test.
25. Is laptop compulsory and will it be included as part of the fee? Ans. It is recommended that the students should have their own laptop or desktop. However, the Institute has a well equipped computer lab for use by the students.
26. Is there any Induction Programme for the students? Ans. SIMSR has mandatory Induction Programme of two weeks at the beginning of the course to familiarize the students with basic management subjects, especially Data Models, Accounts and Economics.
27. Is the placement assistance provided? Ans. Yes, placement assistance is provided to the students. A full-fledged Placement Committee comprising of the students (guided by Chief Placement Manager) helps in the placement of the students. So far, SIMSRs placement record has been excellent since its inception in top organizations. More than 130 companies visited the campus for final placement for all PGDM programmes for the Batch 2009-11.
28. What is the average package of the last PGDM Batch i.e. 2009-2011? Ans.
