1. State ohm's law. write its mathematical expression.
The current (I), flowing in a metallic wire and the potential Difference (V) across its
terminal in an electric circuit is directly proportional to the current flowing through
it, provided its temperature remains the same.

6. What is refraction of light?
Whenever a ray of light incident obliquely on a glass slab it bends, this phenomena
of bending of light when it passes from one medium to another is called as
Refraction of light.
7. What is dispersion of light? Name the colour formed due to dispersion and write the
least bent and the most bent colour.
When a white light is incident on a prism it gets refracted and splits into 7
constituent colours. This phenomenon is called dispersion of light. The 7 colours so
formed are violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red (VIBGYOR).
The Least bent colour is Red and Most bent colour is Violet.
8. What is electromagnetic induction?
Whenever a magnetic field linked with the coil changes, an e.m.f will be induced in
the circuit. This phenomena is called Electromagnetic Induction.
9. Why is the sea water blue in colour?
Sea water absorbs the colours of longer wavelength in large quantity than the blue
colour of shorter wavelength. So, form the white light entering the sea, only blue
colour is reflected.
10. Why is an alternating current considered to be advantageous over direct current for
long range transmission of electric energy?
Alternating current can be transmitted to long distant places without much loss of
electric energy. That's why it is considered to be advantageous over direct current
for long range transmission of electric energy.

unable to see nearby objects. It can be corrected by using convex lens of suitable

It is defined as the amount of work done in moving a unit positive charge from one
point to another in a conducting medium. The S.I. Unit of Potential difference is
Volt.
15. Name the device used to measure the potential difference. Voltmeter is
the device used to measure the Potential difference.
16. How are voltmeter and ammeter connected in the circuit.
Voltmeter is connected in Parallel and Ammeter is always connected in Series with
the circuit.
17. How does overloading and short circuit occur in an electric circuit. OVERLOADING
of an electric circuit means when current flows in a circuitit becomes more than
the capacity of components in the circuit to resistthe current. When too much
current passes in a circuit, overload occursthrough electric wires.
Short Circuit: Whenever a live wire and neutral wire come in direct contact with each
other in a domestic circuit, due to damage of pf insulation power lines, then Short
circuit occurs and suddenly large current flows in the circuit.
18. Electrical devices are not connected in series but they are connected inparallel.
why?

1. The current is constant throughout the electric circuit.
2. Overall resistance of circuit will increase due to which the current frompower
supply will be less .

In an Electric Motor, the split rings reverses the direction of Current and makes the
current to flow in One direction. Hence the split rings are called commutators.

points the direction of force acting on the conductor.
41. State Fleming's right hand rule.(Dynamo rule)
The Law states that, if the fore finger, middle finger and thumb of the right hand are
stretched atright angles to each other, with the forefinger in the direction of the field
and the thumb in the direction of the motion of the wire, then the current in the wire
is in the direction of the middle finger.

(a) If the four resistors are connected in series, their total resistance will be the sum
of their individual resistances and it will be the highest. The total equivalent
resistance of the resistors connected in series will be 4 Ω + 8 Ω + 12 Ω + 24 Ω = 48 Ω.
(b) If the resistors are connected in parallel, then their equivalent resistances will
be the lowest. Their equivalent resistance connected in parallel is, the lowest total
resistance is 2 Ω.
48. How Rainbow is formed?
A rainbow is caused by dispersion of sunlight by tiny water droplets, present in the
atmosphere. It is formed in a direction opposite to that of sun. The water droplets
acts like small prisms. They refract and disperse the incident sunlight, then reflect it
internally and finally refract it again when it comes out of the raindrop. Due to the
dispersion of light and internal reflection, rainbow is formed.
49. Why do Stars Twinkle?
The twinkling of a stars is due to atmospheric refraction of starlight. The starlight on
entering the earth’s atmosphere, undergoes refraction continuously before it
reaches the earth. As the path of rays of light coming from the stars goes on
varying slightly, the apparent position of the star fluctuates and causing twinkling
effect.
50. Sky appears blue in colour. Give reasons.
Size of the molecules of air and other fine particles in the atmosphere is smaller
than the wavelength of visible light. Hence these are more effective in scattering
light of shorter wavelength at the blue end.
51. Why planets do not twinkle?
The planets are much closer to the earth and are thus seen as extended sources but
as point sized sources of light. So the planets do not twinkle.
