Educational Access Essay by Syeika Sarah

The document discusses issues of unequal access to education in Indonesia, particularly among lower income groups. Poverty is a major hindrance to achieving equal education opportunities. Online learning during the pandemic further exacerbated these inequalities, as not all regions could implement online systems and many students could not afford devices. Discrimination against women's education is also still present in some areas.

The basic idea about equal access to education is a thought that often forgotten from many people

that’s not affected by it. Education is supposed to be a pleasure that can be felt by all kinds of people,
without exceptions, regardless of how wealthy, or how worthy or not they are, nor discriminating
them based on gender.
One of the cases that can’t be looked with one eye is about the poverty level in Indonesia that’s
become a major factor in hindering the process of achieving equality in education. At the period of
Covid-19 that started on the year 2019 to 2023 where education is being done online, some people
can get their rights to education at that time, but many others doesn’t. How do we as students fulfill
our responsibility when we don’t even have access to do so? Society Groups as we know it,
commonly divided into three groups, which is; upper class, middle class, and lower class. Upper
class are parts of the Society Group that isn’t affected by the inequality of education access and
maybe this is the group that’s supposedly can easily fullfil their responsibility as students have their
rights to easily access education. There are also, lower class group, they are the part of society that’s
very affected by inequality of education access, but sometimes they still get their acces to education
with the help of them from the upper class, even though those helps aren’t spread evenly. Now lets
see the middle class group, are they also affected? This particular class/group is divided into 2, which
is a middle to upper class group, and middle to lower class group, those that are parts of the middle to
lower class are the one’s that actually are affected the most from the inequality of education access.
How about the recent hot news? About the high increase in tuition fee. How are the families from the
middle-lower group supposed to pay this tuition fee? They don’t have much income, often they have
more than one child that they have to financed, but why those high tuitions are given to families that
can’t afford to pay them? I will close my eyes for this high tuitions when they are given to those of
the upper class group. The lower class group struggles to even get basic elementary education, how
are they gonna talk about this high college tuition? But the very sad part is that even those groups
still have to think about the high college tuition. Scholarship that’s supposed to be a way out and
supposed to be spread evenly aren’t even spread evenly, with many rats using bowties in this society
that sets those scholarship to be given to their family, using their status to
make family have an easier road to fulfil said responsibility as a student.
Poverty that continues to result in closed access to education for certain groups will be difficult to
eradicate if self-awareness is still difficult to understand. Awareness of fulfilling one's obligations as
a student, awareness of the rights one should get as a student, and awareness of why we have to
survive in this situation. The lower class will continue to think "why am I trying if there is no support
and encouragement" then the upper class will think "I will definitely get my right to access education
through whatever means" and the middle class will think "if I continue my education, what about my
brother/sister?” Until now, many people from any group do not have this self-awareness. It is true
that it is difficult to advance ourselves if we come from a poor family environment, but without
closing our eyes, there are many people who have succeeded in achieving their dreams even though
they come from poor families. It is true that those of us who come from affluent families have an
easier time accessing education, but have you ever thought about why the lower middle class are
more successful through their own hard work? So does the middle class ever think that if they are
successful they can help their families to get access to much better education? This awareness should
be cultivated in all people, regardless of group.
Education is a sustainable investment for yourself which will later be used to achieve your desire to
succeed. Education is their path to success, education is what helps them rise from adversity. One of
the impacts of unequal access to education is that parents do not know their children's growth and
development. The child's growth, such as height, weight, and so on, will later become one of the
obstacles for the child to carry out his obligations as a student. The increasing cases of stunting also
really need attention.
Stupidity that occurs in society can arise from growth and development, conflicting understanding of
news, and unequal access to education. Access to education can be seen from both formal and non-
formal learning, from offline and online learning. Offline learning, such as going to school, also still
has obstacles in terms of unequal access to education. Many children go to school across the river,
folding their clothes, carrying their shoes, just to access education itself. Where have the great people
gone who promised to make the nation's children successful? "GOLDEN INDONESIA 2045"can be
achieved through the development of the common sense of the nation's children,
through equal access to education. How can this country achieve success in the eyes of outsiders
while within it there are many children of the nation who do not have the right to carry out their
obligations to make the phrase "GOLDEN INDONESIA 2045" a success?
Why is access to education unequal? Do some of them still close their eyes and not see how difficult
it is for people living in remote environments? Or people who can't afford it. Online learning was
implemented in several schools when the Covid-19pandemic hit. But can all regions implement this
system? There are areas that can implement this system, but there are some students who cannot
afford to buy educational support equipment such as cellphones/laptops. But what's worse is that we
still have areas that don't even have an internet network? How can learning be carried out when there
are no supporting tools? Isn't that a stupid thing to continue?
Some students feel that gender differences also influence them in accessing education. Why is that?
In some places there are still many who discriminate against women, the words uttered such as
"women don't need to study well, they will become house wives" that always come to my mind are
"is this the era of 1,000 BC?" I don't 100%agree with gender equality. Because basically the strength
and nature of women and men are different. However, discriminating against one of the parties is not
justified. Some families even tell their daughters to give in and let their sons continue their education.
Are women not worthy? Are Women so inferior? These are all thoughts that are in my mind about
this situation.
What must be equalized and what must be differentiated must be done with correct thinking, mature
thought processing, by allowing education to flow in life, without any inequality in access to
education. If at the start there is no intention to equalize access to education, then until the end all
accomplishment and success is just a dream.
Continuous stupidity has resulted in Indonesia becoming an undeveloped country. Unequal access to
education in this era of electronic progress is something that should not happen. Those who develop
are those who have had access to education from the start, and those who are trying to gain their right
to access education. But those who are below, without guidance, they will continue to be below, they
will not progress if no one pushes them. This encouragement will came from other people who were
aware of their rights to
access education.
The stupid thing that is currently happening is that many great people in the country are not given the
opportunity, and choose to go outside and become successful people. This country will look back at
those who are successful and want that person to return to the country to advance the nation, even
though from the start that person wanted to try, they never even glanced at it and were given the
opportunity. This is also an obstacle for some people to gain access to education. When the choice is
to keep going for those who are progressing, and to go back or stay for those who are not feeling
progress. What else should we discuss about unequal access to education? I've talked enough, but Is
till don't see any results. Feeling the pleasures of the world, feeling the coolness of the room,
experiencing technological progress, is the desire of all people without exception. Currently, this
desire continues to grow among those who want to move forward. However, it is hampered by those
who have already progressed, and does not open the way for others to progress. When it is said that
12 years of education is mandatory, then more than that it is primary education. Stupid things are
what stupid people think. I will not deny the 12 years of mandatory education, but do they see the
situation that is happening now?
When you want to apply for a job, the main requirement is to have a bachelor's degree, how can you
get that degree if the study itself is included in primary education, which is not mandatory, and can
only be done by those who have economic advantages, and can fulfill their primary needs. What
about those who don't have extra funds, and can't meet their mandatory needs? What to expect with
primary needs?
How do you want to progress if the things you want are not in accordance with the conditions in the
field? It is time for us to move towards GOLDEN INDONESIA 2045, so solve all the problems of
unequal access to education, and move on to something better, for ourselves and the nation.
Seeing and realizing that you have self-awareness to obtain your rights as a student, and carry out
your obligations by using the rights you have obtained.
