3. Glass thermometer consists of a bulb containing either mercury or alcohol. According to your
opinion, which thermometer would you like to prefer? Give reason.

4. Due to the expansion and contraction of liquids in thermometer, we can calculate the temperature
accurately. But there is one major disadvantage in the glass thermometer (due to that the temperature
is not measured accurately). Identify that disadvantage.

5. Alcohol thermometer consists of alcohol in it. But it is a colourless liquid. How can you we see and
measure the readings in the thermometer?

6. Two group of scientist name as group Alpha and group Beta started a voyage to travel two different
places. Group Alpha travelled to the centre of Antarctica region where the temperature is very cold.
Another group Beta travelled to centre of the Earth and reached to Mantle layer.
To measure the temperature at those two different regions, what kind and type of thermometer they
need to use? Justify with reasons.

7. One your friend got high fever and even you to have that symptom. Both of you went to the doctors
and gone check-up the temperature in your body with the help of clinical thermometer. As you are
science students, will you prefer to check up with clinical thermometer at this situation? If not, why?
Which thermometer will you prefer to measure your temperature?

8. How does the mechanism of conduction heat transfer in solids? Explain it application in an easy way
to understand this phenomenon.

9. What are the precautions to use the clinical thermometer?

10. What are electromagnetic waves? What is infrared radiation? Give daily life example for
electromagnetic wave?
