The Swimming Centre
Introduction This assessment requires you to apply trigonometric methods to help the
Swimming Centre organisers to mark out the boundaries of the two different regions: Swimming
Pool and Cafe area.
Task One
The Swimming Centre organisers have set out the two regions as shown in the diagram.
(a) Calculate the total perimeter of the Swimming Centre which needs to go around the
outside of the two regions that make up the whole Swimming Centre. (Shape ABCDE)
(b) Calculate the area available for the whole Swimming Centre (Shape ABCDE).
All measurements are in metres. Diagram NOT drawn to scale.
C Measurements:
Length AB = 25 m
Length AD = 28 m
B Length DE = 21 m
Café
Length CD = 18 m
Length BD = 18 m
11𝜋 AED = 80

Task Two
A region adjacent to the pool area is being considered for the shower and changing rooms.
This region has the shape of a segment with area of 270 m2.
7π
The enclosed sector angle is radians as shown.
