1. Draw the graphs of the lines 2x + y = 6 and 2x – y + 2 = 0. Shade the region bounded by these lines and the
x-axis. Find the area of the shaded region.
2. Solve the following pair of linear equation graphically and shade the region bounded by these
lines and x - axis; also find the area of the shaded region.

3. Solve the following system of equations graphically: 4x – y = 4, 3x + 2y = 14.
Shade the region bounded by these lines and the y-axis. Also find the area of the shaded region.

10% gain and the fridge at 5% loss, he gains Rs 1500 on the transaction. Find the actual prices of T. V. and
fridge.
7. The ages of two friends Manjit and Ranjit differ by 3 years. Manjit's father Dharam is twice as old as
Manjit and Ranjit as twice as old as his sister Jaspreet. The ages of Jaspreet and Dharam differ by 30 years.
Find the ages of Manjit and Ranjit.
8. A boat goes 24 km upstream and 28 km downstream in 6 hrs. It goes 30 km upstream and 21 km
downstream in 6 hrs and 30 minutes. Find the speed of the boat in still water and also speed of the
stream.
9. A man walks a certain distance with certain speed. If he walks 1/2 km an hour faster, he takes 1 hour less.
But, if he walks 1 km an hour slower, he takes 3 more hours. Find the distance covered by the man and his
original rate of walking.
10. Anuj travels 600 km partly by train and partly by car. If he covers 400 km by train and the rest by car, it
takes him 6 hours and 30 minutes. But, if the travels 200 km by train and the rest by car, he takes half an
hour longer. Find the speed of the train and that of the car.
11. Places X and Y are 200 km apart on a highway. One car starts from X and another from Y at the same time.
If the cars travel in the same direction at different speeds, they meet in 10 hours. If they travel towards
each other, they meet in 2 hours. What are the speeds of two cars?
12. A person invested some amount at the rate of 12% simple interest and some other amount at the rate of
10% simple interest. He received yearly interest of Rs. 130. But if he had interchanged the amounts
invested, he would have received Rs 4 more as interest. How much amount did he invest at different
rates?
13. Students of a class are made to stand in rows. If two students are extra in a row, there would be 4 rows
less. If four students are less in a row there would be 20 rows more. Find the number of students in the
class.
14. 8 men and 12 boys can finish a piece of work in 10 days while 6 men and 8 boys can finish it in 14 days.
Find the time taken by one man alone and that by one boy alone to finish the work.
15. After covering a distance of 30 km with a uniform speed there is some defect in a Express train
engine and, therefore, its speed is reduced to 4/5 of its original speed. Consequently, the train
reaches its destination late by 45 minutes. Had it happened after covering 18 km more, the train
would have reached 9 minutes earlier. Find the speed of the train and the distance of journey.
16. A two- digit number is obtained by either multiplying the sum of the digits by 8 and then
subtracting 5 or by multiplying the difference of the digits by 16 and then adding 3. Find the
number.
17. A chemist has one solution which is 50% acid and a second solution which is 25% acid. How
much of each should be mixed to make 10 litres of a 40% acid solution?
18. An integer is 1 less than twice that of another. If their sum is 20, find the integers.
19. A 1.8% saline solution is to be combined and mixed with a 3.2% saline solution to produce 35
litres of a 2.2% saline solution How much of each is needed?
20. An 80% antifreeze concentrate is to be mixed with water to produce a 48-liter mixture containing 25%
antifreeze. How much water and antifreeze concentrate is needed?
21. A chemist wishes to create 100 ml of a solution with 12% acid content. He uses two types of
stock solutions, one with 30% acid content and another with 10% acid content. How much of
each does he need?
22. An executive travelled a total of 4 hours and 875 miles by car and by plane Driving to the airport
by car, she averaged 50 miles per hour. In the air, the plane averaged 320 miles per hour. How
long did it take her to drive to the airport?
23. Flying with the wind, a light aircraft travelled 240 miles in 2 hours. The aircraft then turned against the
wind and travelled another 135 miles in 112 hours. Find the speed of the airplane and the speed of the
