ARC 35 is a “qualifying” workshop. It is a workshop that can qualify a student to take either Math 4
or Math 6A. To qualify for Math 4 or Math 6A, you must get a 75% (when rounded to the nearest
percent) or better in ARC 35. This cutoff is firm, i.e. a 74.49% will be given an NQ (Not Qualified).
You cannot repeat ARC 35.

This is a fully online workshop. All of the workshop content and activities are accessed online.

To-Do List in a Typical Week: Here is a summary of how most weeks will go. Please read the
whole syllabus for more details on these topics.

Pre-assessment: Take the pre-assessment in Hawkes. Completing the pre-assessment

unlocks the week’s lessons. Pre-assessment scores do not affect your grade. Pre-
assessments preview the topics coming up in the week, so you are not expected to know any
of the material they contain.
Lecture Videos: Watch the lecture videos that correspond to the week’s lessons. The videos
are accessed through the iLearn lecture section (001). You can watch at your own pace, but
you must watch the corresponding videos before your lab session.
Scheduled Lab Sessions: You have enrolled in a specific lab section and are expected to
attend all your Scheduled Lab Sessions, which are held on Zoom Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu. Your
iLearn lab section contains the Zoom link. Note, the iLearn lab section is different from the
lecture section (001). Your lab leader will take attendance during each lab session and lab
participation will be tracked and accumulate into a grade with the same weight as one quiz.
Lessons: Work through these in Hawkes. Lessons are due Wednesdays and Fridays at
11:59pm.
Quiz: Each week’s quiz is due Friday at 11:59pm (except the Syllabus Quiz). Different
quizzes have different requirements and procedures; see the Quizzes section below for
details.

Three Platforms: Below is a short description of the three platforms you will utilize in ARC 35.

Lessons (Homework): These are completed in Hawkes and can be thought of as Homework. To
get full credit, a lesson must be “Certified”. You have unlimited attempts to certify each lesson. Once
a lesson has been certified you will get 100% for that lesson and your score will not change (even if
you go back later to practice). There are Lessons due every Wednesday and Friday at 11:59pm.

Syllabus Quiz: You must complete the Syllabus Quiz by 11:59pm on Tuesday, 7/27/2021. It is not
directly a part of your overall grade, but you must pass it in order to get credit for all future quizzes. If
you do not pass, you will be notified and given a second attempt. You will access and submit the
Syllabus Quiz in Gradescope. The procedures for submitting work will be outlined below, but note
the Syllabus Quiz will not be timed. You must read the section below titled “Gradescope
Submission Requirements” before submitting a quiz. Failure to follow instructions will result
in an automatic 0.

Quizzes: Each quiz is accessed and completed in Hawkes. These Hawkes quizzes will be available
from Wednesday 12:00am to Friday 11:59pm each week a quiz is due (Week 4 has a midterm, not a
quiz). You will have 45 minutes to complete each quiz. Each quiz will close promptly at 11:59pm
regardless of your time remaining. You will have 2 attempts for each quiz, and your highest score
will be recorded. If you choose to do a second attempt, both attempts must be completed before the
deadline. These are NOT Show Work quizzes and are NOT affiliated with Gradescope in any way.

Gradescope Submission Requirements: You will be using Gradescope to submit the Midterm and
the Final Exam. You will receive an email before the start of the workshop with a link to set up an
account and join the course on Gradescope. Before submitting anything on Gradescope, you must
read this document

and watch this video. In addition to the instructions in those two resources, you must:

Submit a single PDF file, not image files. Note, submitting a single file does not mean a single
page. Your one PDF file may of course consist of multiple pages. Follow the guidelines in the
document linked above for step-by-step instructions on creating a single PDF file that has
multiple pages.
Select the page (or pages) that correspond to each question.
Layout your work neatly and clearly. Make sure every page is oriented correctly (you can
rotate pages during the submission process). Quiz templates will be provided. We
recommend you use our template, but you can use blank paper as long as your work is
organized in a similar way.

If you do not follow ALL submission requirements correctly, you will receive a 0 on the
assignment.

Final Exam: The Final Exam will be proctored. There is no makeup exam unless you have an
official document that proves you had an emergency situation. The Final Exam is on Saturday,
September 11, 2021. The Final Exam is cumulative and will consist of 35 Show Work questions. You
will have 1 hour and 50 minutes to complete the Final Exam. You will access the exam and submit it
through Gradescope following the same guidelines and procedures as stated above. Specific details
will become available later in the workshop.

Grades

You must get a 75% or better (when rounded to the nearest percent) to pass ARC 35 and qualify for
MATH 4 or MATH 6A. This cutoff is firm, i.e. a 74.49% will be given an NQ (Not Qualified). You
cannot repeat ARC 35.

Breakdown of overall grade:

Lessons (Homework) – 20%

Quizzes – 20%
Midterm - 10%
Final Exam – 50%

iLearn: No grades are posted here.

Hawkes: Best suited for viewing your overall grade. Lesson certifications and Quiz grades will be
immediately available for review in Hawkes after completion. Once the Midterm and the Final Exam
are graded, overall scores are transferred to Hawkes, but individual questions cannot be reviewed
here. Your Lab Participation grade will be posted in Hawkes after the end of the workshop.

Gradescope: Best suited for viewing feedback on individual questions. The grades for the Midterm
and the Final Exam will be posted here as soon as the assignments are graded. In Gradescope, you
can also see scores for individual questions and a brief piece of feedback / rubric for each question.
Gradescope will not contain your overall workshop grade. Due to the volume of students and
relatively few graders, expect the Midterm to take up to 2 weeks to grade.

Quiz Grades and Lab Participation: There will be 6 quiz grades in all: 5 quizzes and a Lab
Participation Grade, all weighted equally. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped, so your 5 highest
quiz grades (including lab participation) will each count towards 4% of your overall workshop grade.

Open Lab Sessions and Making up Missed Work

Open Lab Sessions: These are a great way to get extra help and/or make up a missed Scheduled
Lab Session. If you miss a Scheduled Lab Session, you can make up the participation points by
attending any Open Lab Session. The Open Session Schedule is located on the iLearn lecture
section (001). In order to receive credit, you must attend an Open Lab Session no more than 4
business days after your missed Scheduled Lab Session, and you can only earn back the
participation points from a missed Scheduled Lab Session up to 3 times.

Hawkes Lessons (Homework): These can be completed late for 75% credit.

Late Quizzes, Midterm, and Final Exam: These will not be accepted and will receive a 0. Note that
if you miss the Final Exam it is impossible to pass ARC 35.

Academic Integrity

We expect sincerity in your work and effort, and cheating will not be tolerated.

Calculators are NOT allowed when completing any Lesson, any Quiz, or the Final Exam. When
completing Lessons, Quizzes, or the Final Exam, using a calculator or the Internet to search for
answers or aid you in any way is strictly prohibited and considered cheating. All Lessons, Quizzes,
and the Final Exam must be completed by you individually without help from someone else.

Cheating and plagiarism are taken very seriously. Any attempt to cheat will result in receiving an
automatic “No Credit” for the course. Additionally, it is required any student caught cheating or
plagiarizing be reported to Student Conduct and Academic Integrity Programs for disciplinary action.

Additional Resources

Accommodations: To request disability-related accommodations, you must register with SDRC. For
detailed information, please visit the Apply for Accommodations webpage. Disability services are
free, voluntary, private, and not part of your transcript.– UCR’s SDRC website

Counseling: It is important to take care of your mental health. You can always reach out to
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). They are doing appointments via phone and
videoconferencing.

Devices: If you need a learning device for remote instruction (e.g. laptop with a webcam), please
visit UCR’s Loan2Learn program and fill out an application.

Tutoring: There is no replacement for attending Lab Sessions and completing Lessons and
Quizzes, but for extra help, the Academic Resource Center (ARC) is still “open” (virtually) for
Quiz
tutoring. This is NOT the same as an Open Lab Session. All appointments are remote. You can find
the detailed tutoring schedule on their website and make an appointment with a tutor by logging in
to Accudemia Appointment System (user ID and password are both your SID numbers).
