ECMC 008- Social Studies in the Early Childhood Education
Course Code and Title

Name of Program: Bachelor of Early Childhood Education

Credits: 3 units

Pre-requisites: None

Course Description:

The course focuses on discussion of the concepts in Social Studies as well as the
developmentally appropriate strategies in teaching these concepts to young learners.

Course Period: 54 hours, 4 hours per meeting

Learning Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

A. demonstrate knowledge on the concepts in Social Studies as well as the


developmentally appropriate strategies in teaching children about people’s
interactions in and with their social and physical environment now and in the
past, both in local and global contexts in the early childhood education;

B. demonstrate knowledge of teaching strategies that promote good citizenship in


young children which are also responsive to the linguistic, cultural, socio
economic and religious background;

C. demonstrate familiarity with a range of strategies for communicating learner


needs, progress and achievement in Social Studies in the early childhood
education;

D. demonstrate engagement and enjoyment in facilitating Social Studies activities to


nurture and inspire learner participation; andE. design activities in Social Studies
that promote critical and creative thinking and higher order thinking skills for early
childhood education.

sheets, analysis, reflections, anecdotal records, incident reports, individual or peer
systematic observations and a weekly learning episodes for observation. A portfolio is
required at the end of the course.
