Utilization of Archives and History Collection of Links Inc
The Tampa Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, holds a rich history of service and
leadership within the African American community. The collection comprises records and
historical accounts pertaining to all 12-chapter presidents, supplemented by various items such as
membership lists, collaborations with schools and communities, press cuttings, financial records,
meeting notes, newsletters, pictures, memory books, and addresses (Tampa, 2024). These special
collections are important to them in their exploration and community engagement.
Firstly, the documents and materials from each of the 12 presidents would serve a great
purpose in their exploration to understand the chapter’s evolution over time. They can trace the
chapter’s growth, initiatives and the impact they have had to the community over the years. This
historical context can be utilized in their studies to effect social change by offering an
understanding of the challenges faced and the strategies employed by African American leaders.
Secondly, the collection of membership rosters, school and community partnerships and
meetings can be used to explore the chapter's engagement with pressing social issues, such as
education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. This firsthand information can be utilized in
their studies to inspire the current office to address similar issues in their community
involvement.
Thirdly, newsletters, photographs, and speeches in the collection serve a great importance
in understanding the chapter's public outreach and communication strategies. In their studies, the
organization can appreciate the power of storytelling and visual representation in enhancing their
volunteer service in advancing social justice. Moreover, speeches and interviews with past
3
presidents in their collection could glean valuable insights to the youths in the transformational
service and leadership of the organization.
To sum it up, The Links archives and history collection can help with different kinds of
studies and getting involved in the community. It's good for learning about the leadership of
African American women and can inspire young people. It can also help with understanding and
solving social problems and making a difference in society.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice
Throughout my academic journey, I have worked, served and also have been involved in
extracurricular activities that have been important in in instilling and exhibiting commitment to
diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. This has instilled in me a more flexible awareness
of responsibility that I can take with me in higher education level. Beyond my education, I am
committed to furthering my dedication to advocating diversity, equity, inclusion, and social
justice through continued learning, activism, and engagement.
Through my academic journey I have aimed to promoted diversity by being openminded
and treating everyone with respect as an individual with his or her own ideas attitudes and
preferences. This began foremost with my own attitudes and the steps I took to increase my
experiences with diverge individuals. I have been actively involved in cultural fairs and concerts
that have been held in school to increase my cultural awareness. My communication with other
students by letting them know how I felt about acts of prejudice, hatred that I witnessed and
racist jokes by other students, has had everyone openly condemning such behaviors and it less
likely appeared again.

Secondly, I have exhibited commitment to equity by recognizing that circumstances that
are personal or social such as origin or family background are not obstacles to achieving any
potential. I have positively partaken in generating an equitable leaning environment by listening
and learning from others. I have also strived for intellectual humility and standing strong in my
own perspective, while also recognizing the differing views of others.
My commitment to diversity and inclusion has extended to being involved in outreach
programs and volunteering to create a space for all voices to be heard and for others to contribute
to classwork group discussions. Simulations, games and debates, have facilitated social justice
activity through the processes of critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making. They
have helped me develop my social justice competencies such as perspective taking,
communication and collaboration. Additionally, I facilitated discussions on topics such as
privilege, discrimination, and allyship, fostering dialogue and understanding among peers.
Through the academic journey, I have also gained the knowledge, skills and resources to
continue advancing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives by creating programs that can
effectively reach and engage diverse populations. I plan to engage in research projects and
internships focused on issues such as racial disparities in healthcare, educational equity, and
community empowerment.
Beyond the classroom, I intend to actively participate in campus organizations and
initiatives dedicated to promoting diversity and social justice. Through involvement in
multicultural clubs, advocacy groups or service-learning projects, I will aim to contribute to
creating an inclusive campus environment where all students feel valued and supported.
Additionally, when in conversations where decisions are being made and a feel of diverse
5
perspective is not represented, I will analyze voices to help incorporate diverse perspectives into
the discussions.
Moreover, I aim to contribute to meaningful social transformation and the creation of
more just and equitable societies by advocating for change in a broader scale. I aspire to
participate in community organizing efforts and policy advocacy addressing systemic injustices.
I will collaborate with community members and policymakers to stay informed about social
issues, biases and the experiences of the marginalized communities. I will utilize radical
hospitality, trust building and commitment, embracing the gifts of diversity and adaptability to
community change as principles for equitable and inclusive engagement.
In conclusion, through education, advocacy and community engagement, I am confident
in my ability to effect meaningful change in my academic course and beyond. I will be
committed to challenging systems of oppression, amplifying marginalized voices and building a
more equitable and inclusive world.
Myself and My Motives
I am a hard-working and driven individual who isn't afraid to face a challenge. I'm
passionate about my work and I know how to get the job done. I would describe myself as an
open and honest person who doesn't believe in misleading other people and tries to be fair in
everything I do. From a young age, I've been driven by a strong sense of empathy and a desire to
contribute to the well-being of others. Positive impact is what runs my mind when I think about
our world. Connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, learning from their experiences
and working together is a fulfilment to me in addressing social challenges.

Making a meaningful difference in the world is what inspires me. There being the
opportunity to create meaningful change and a lasting legacy of compassion and service fuels my
commitment I am passionate about using my skills and experience to make a positive impact in
people’s lives. Witnessing marginalized groups’ determination to advocate for justice and
equality puts me at a front line to use my voice and privilege to amplify their stories and
advocate for their systemic change. The satisfaction of knowing that I can make positive impact
in people’s lives incredibly motivates me.
If I could do anything with my life, I imagine myself working at the intersection of
community organizing and policy advocacy. Through organizing campaigns, advocating for
policy reforms and mobilizing communities for collective action, I could contribute to building a
more just, equitable, and sustainable society for all. Racial inequality, economic injustice and
environmental stability are some of the initiatives I envision myself leading using my
knowledge, skills and resources to empower others.
STEM, encompassing science technology, engineering and math excites me in that it
emphasizes on innovation, problem solving and critical thinking. I am always fascinated by the
endless possibilities that technology offers in enhancing communication and connectivity. In the
field of information technology, I feel I could make a positive impact to the world from the
opportunities I see. Through digital initiatives such as digital literacy programs and community
technology centers, I could create an impact by bridging the digital divide and empower
unprivileged communities with the tools and skills needed to excel in the digital age. I could feel
satisfied when I am committed to advocating for digital inclusion and working towards a more
equitable and accessible future for all.

One of the greatest challenges I've had to overcome was navigating a period of significant
self-doubt and uncertainty during my transition to high school. I did not feel like I belonged to a
rigorous academic environment to be able to adjust to the demands of school coursework like
managing time effectively and building a support network away from home. In order to thrive in
this environment, I had to use resource and support systems available such as academic advising,
tutoring services and student support groups. These resources provided valuable guidance,
reassurance, and encouragement during times of uncertainty.
Pick an individual you know personally, who lives in your community. Address how the
individual you have selected has inspired you and helped you build the confidence you need
to achieve your goals.
Ms. Johnson has been a great source of inspiration and support for me. Ms. Johnson is an
ever-committed teacher to her students at a local high school. Her passion for education has
impacted my life and helped me build the confidence I need to pursue my goals. Her students
feel empowered, valued and respected as she fosters a supportive and inclusive learning for them
to reach their full potential. She offers personalized guide, mentorship and encouragement to her
student as she has a genuine concern for her students’ success. She sees potential in every student
and nurtures their talents, and challenges them to go beyond comfort zones. This inspires me as it
showcases her ability to instill confidence in her students. She has guided me along and has
helped me a lot in gaining confidence to take on new challenges and striving for excellence in
my endeavors.
She is resilient, compassionate and committed to making a difference in peoples’ lives
which mostly has inspired me to strive for greatness and to use my talents and opportunities to
lift those around me. Her works have influenced my academic success in learning by helping my
8
peers in group projects. Her impact in my life has always been a reminder of the power of
mentorship, encouragement and belief in oneself.
Ms. Johnson, being my mentor has recently inspired me by what she termed as self-
confidence. She said that there are several needs that humans must meet to be truly fulfilled, but,
generally, the most basic needs must be met before more complex needs can be met. She
emphasized that our needs of physiological stability, safety, love and belonging are met first so as
to have a healthy self-esteem that comes from within us. This has served as a reminder to me to
always meet my elementary needs first, so as to have the confidence and to be fully energized to
pursue other goals of interest. I feel equipped with confidence and determination to pursue my
goals and make positive impact in my community. I am grateful for having such a great
influencer in my life, and I aspire to pay it forward in life by empowering others to believe in
themselves and pursue their goals.
The importance of College to Me
I am certain that college will greatly impact my life. From personal to professional
growth and being able to make positive impact to the world. College is important to me for
many reasons including increased career stability and satisfaction. Through college, I will
develop skills for life and skills I can use in my career. Throughout my lifetime, I have made it
my sole purpose in life to seek the unknown and do the unthinkable; for me, attending college is
the key to this success. In my opinion, graduating from college guarantees that my life starts off
well.
In today’s complex world, qualities such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and
communication skills are essential. These qualities are achieved through rigorous work that is
9
experienced in college. This is important have hands-on learning experiences, to be able to delve
deeper into subjects of interest and gain more expertise.
College is important in helping in exploration of new interests, passions and perspectives
that challenge individuals. One has to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new
opportunities that are endlessly presented in life. This I can say is a way of experiencing personal
growth and going through a course of self-discovery. Through involvement in student
organizations and research projects that are in a college, one can grow, learn and find personal
fulfilment.
Additionally, through college one can appreciate the importance of writing and
communication skills which are indispensable in any career entry. I find an importance in college
education in fine-tuning skills for report writing, effective communication and effective reading
that are important in thriving in diverse professional settings. Also, through college education
one can pursue greater career opportunities and be economic mobile. Additionally, through
college education one can enhance their job prospects, increase their earning potential and adapt
to the rapidly changing job market.
Beyond individual benefits, one can learn the importance of social justice and social
mobility. College will serve as a vehicle to leveling the playing field as it will expand access to
education and opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds regardless of their economic
status, race or ethnicity. College serves the importance of breaking cycles of poverty, systemic
barriers and contribute to a more equitable and inclusive society for all people.
