International Labour Day:- The origins of International Labour Day can be traced to
a massive walkout by thousands of workers in Chicago, Illinois, in 1886, demanding
an eight-hour workday exhausted by 16 hours a day, without weekly rest.
Press Freedom Day:-
World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in
December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO's General Conference.
Since then, 3 May, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek is celebrated
worldwide as World Press Freedom Day.
India's position has seen a slight improvement moving from 161 in 2023 to 159
among 180 countries in 2024.
In the 2024 report Norway, Denmark and Sweden maintain 1st, 2nd and 3rd spots
respectively. Eritrea was at the bottom of the list, with Syria just ahead of it.
World Thalassaemia Day:-
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that causes your body to have less
hemoglobin than normal. Hemoglobin enables red blood cells to carry oxygen.
National Anti-Terrorism Day-
In India, the National Anti-Terrorism Day is observed on May 21 each year to
commemorate the date when the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, the sixth
Prime Minister of India, was killed by a suicide bomber from the LTTE (Liberation
Tigers of Tamil Eelam) in Sriperumbudur, a village near Madras.
The Anti-Terrorism Day in India was founded by the VP Singh government.
