Rotter Incomplete Sentence Blank (RISB)

Introduction

The Rotter Incomplete Sentence Blank (RISB) Is a projective

psychological test developed (revised) by Julian Rotter and Rafferty in

1950.It is designed to assess an individual's underlying thoughts, feelings,

and attitudes through their responses to incomplete sentences. The test

consists of a series of sentence stems, which the respondent is asked to

complete. The objective of RISB is that it is used for screening and

experimental purposes. It obtain information of rather specific diagnostic

value for treatment purposes. The use of RISB is for general

interpretation with a variety of subjects. It is used for over-all adjustment

score: screening purposes. This test is used for experimental studies and

in vocational guidance center. Another use is for the investigations of the

relationship of adjustment to a variety of variables.

Versions: The RISB comes in three different forms tailored to various

age groups.

 School form: Designed for younger individuals, typically students

in elementary or middle school.

 College form: Designed for young adults attending colleges or

universities.

 Adult form: Suitable for mature girls beyond the college years.
Each version contains 40 incomplete sentences that participants are asked

to complete as quickly as possible.

Procedure

This test is consist of total 40 incomplete sentences As soon as possible

but the usual time taken is around 20 minutes. This test measures overall

index of adjustment. It can be used for screening, group comparison, and

research purposes. The test can be admisinistered either individual or in

group setting. Complete these sentences to express your real feelings. Try

to do every one. Be sure to make a complete sentence. No further

instructions are given except if necessary and to urge subjects to complete

all the items. After the completion of test scoring is done by assigning a

numerical weight from 0 to 6 for each sentence and totaling the weights

to obtain the overall score.

allowing them to consider
