Why should I grant you a visa?

Introduce yourself.
I’m Prayag Adhikari, who is currently 18 years of age. I live in
Chabahil, but my permanent address is Dapcha,
Kavreapalanchok. I recently graduated from high school
majoring on computer science and mathematics. Besides my
academics I like travelling, sketching, listening to music and
have fun. My goal is to become a software developer and I’m
determined to achieve that by pursuing a computer science
degree in the US.

Why US?
- Cutting-edge curriculum
- Active learning
- Flexible curriculum
- Emphasis on research and analysis
- Soft skills improvement

Why not Nepal?

- Less number of universities
- Out of date curriculum
- Focus on theoretical knowledge and no real-world
experience
- No research opportunities

Why Caldwell University?

One of the reasons why I chose Caldwell Uni has to be its cog-ai
research lab with which I’ll get the chance to implement my
own ideas into reality. I’ll get to do multi-semester projects and
build software and simulation and also get to learn more about
human computer interaction. Besides, this Caldwell has great
collection of electives which interest me. They have also
included Physics in their curriculum, which not only is of
interest to be but it will also be a great addition to my profile.
The student to faculty ratio of Caldwell Uni is just 15 to 1 and I
think this will be extremely helpful for us students as to clear
our doubts and also improve teacher student interaction. Apart
from all these, I have gotten a generous scholarship.

What made you interested in Computer Science?

Ever since my secondary school days, I’ve had interest in
computers. Spending most of my time playing video games,
learning about editing, UI/UX designing, I slowly began to
research how these software’s were made and upon research I
found out what programming languages were. I than started
with the C program, which was really fun to learn. It made me
think more and also helped me with my problem-solving
abilities. Then I started to learn about website development and
designing and all these things aspired me to become a software
developer. And in order to become a software developer I’ll
have to purse my degree in CS.

Why Computer Science?

My goal is to become a skilled software developer and
eventually start my very own IT-related business. With the skill I
gain and the business I build, I wish to make use of technology
to create a positive impact to my community. I wish to excel in
this field and use my expertise to contribute meaningfully to
Nepal’s technological evolution.

What makes you a CS candidate?

My love for computers is what makes me a CS candidate. I’m
always eager to learn about the new technologies, I love
programming and I’ve invested most of my time towards
computing related activities and attaining training related to
this field. I think my love for mathematics is also one the key
factors which makes me a CS candidate as mathematics has
made me a problem solver and helped improve my analytical
skills, which are essential for a computer science student. I also
have the required communication and collaborative skills
required for a CS student to express the technical concepts and
ideas.

Academic Background:
Officer, I graduated from my high school with 3.71 GPA and my
major was mathematics and computer science. I had received
3.14 GPA in grade 11 and passed grade 10 with 4 GPA.
Tell me about New Jersey/Uni’s location
My university is located in Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell, NJ. It’s a
suburban town in NJ and is best known for its attractions like
Brookdale Park. Talking about Caldwell, it is 16miles from
Newark and 21 miles from NYC. It’s known for its small-town
atmosphere, parks and local businesses. The population there is
diverse. The community hosts various festivals, concerts, and
parades there throughout the year. Caldwell has diverse
weather, summers and warm and humid while winters cold and
snowy. The temperature ranges from 30 to 1 deg Celsius,
weather there generally is pleasant. Being located near to the
gateway city Newark with its Liberty International Airport, it’s
easy to travel to Caldwell.

Why low SAT Score?

This was my first attempt giving the SAT test officer. I was not
too familiar with the test format and I couldn’t prepare much
for the test. I was preparing during the time of Dashain and
Tihar festival so, I couldn’t fully give my time for the test
preparation. Also, the score of 1180 was enough to qualify for
the scholarship in my university.
As an applicant what are your strength and why should I grant
you visa?
As an applicant, I believe my primary strength is my dedication
to study and gain world class education from the US. My goal in
life is to become a skilled software developer and for this I’ve
consistently achieved good grades in Computer Science and
also mathematics. Besides my good academics I have also
continuously been involved in building projects, presentation,
trainings in the sector of computer science. Besides, this I have
full support from my family. They have always encouraged me
to pursue my goal and have also arranged necessary funds for
my education.
Lastly, I plan to return back home and use the skilled and
knowledge I’ve gained in the US to make a positive impact on
the technological field of Nepal.

How did you shortlist your universities?

I had short-listed my universities majorly by researching over
internet. Making use of sites like US News and College Board.
Besides this, I had also gone USEF-Nepal’s library to learn about
some universities which I applied to and my friends had also
recommended me some of these universities.
Plan after graduation.
After my graduation I plan to come back home and join any of
the reputed IT company like: F1 Soft, Leap Frog, or Deerwalk
and put my knowledge and skills to action. Ill gain some
experience and after 5 to 6 years or so I will work towards
starting my very own IT business which will primarily focus on
building software embedded with AI and help contribute to
Nepal’s health and education sector. Officer, I’m also taking
government job into consideration.

Who are your sponsors and how are they planning to sponsor?
My parents are my major sponsor’s officer. My father is a Police
Officer who has a yearly income of around 7 to 8 thousand
dollars. My mom who is a business woman runs a retail and
wholesale stationary business, has a yearly income of about 30
to 35 thousand dollars. Besides, my parents own three houses
one in Kathmandu and others in my village, which provides us
rental income as well. They have also saved up about 50
thousand dollars for my study in US officer.
