OVERVIEW
This document will provide instructions on installing the Safe Exam Browser for PSI testing. The browser
can be installed using three common browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox);
however, this document outlines installation via Google Chrome. If you run into issues downloading the
browser with Internet Explorer, please refer to the “Was there an issue? link under Step 2 on the
installation page listed below (Step 1).
SAFE EXAM BROWSER INSTALLATION – GOOGLE CHROME
1) Go to https://surveys.vitapowered.com/deliveryweb/safebrowser/install (Step 1)
2) Click the “Safe Exam Browser” link to download and open the file (Step 2)
a. The SafeExamBrowser – InstallShield Wizard window will open.
b. Follow the steps to complete the installation.

3) Click the “Safe Exam Browser Configuration File” to download the file (Step 3)
a. The file will download in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
b. Do not click the file to open.

4) Minimize the Chrome browser window and proceed to the desktop.
5) Go to the Start menu > Computer
6) Click to open the Downloads folder.

7) Find and right-click the PAN_Lockdown_Browser file.

8) Click Send to > Desktop (create Shortcut).
9) Go to the Desktop.

10) Remove the Safe Exam Browser icon from the desktop
a. There will be two icons: 1) Safe Exam Browser and 2) PAN_Lockdown_Browser_Shortcut
b. Right click the Safe Exam Browser icon
c. Click Delete (note – you are only removing the icon, not the file)
d. Click Yes to move the shortcut to the recycle bin

SAFE EXAM BROWSER INSTALLATION – INTERNET EXPLORER
1) Go to https://surveys.vitapowered.com/deliveryweb/safebrowser/install (Step 1)
2) Click the “Safe Exam Browser” link to download and open the file (Step 2)
a. The SafeExamBrowser Installation prompt will appear.
b. Click “Run” on the prompt which appears at the bottom of the screen.

c. A corrupt prompt will appear. Click “View Downloads”.
d. When the downloads pop-up window appears, right-click the “Delete” button, and select
“Run anyway”.
e. The SafeExamBrowser installation wizard window will appear. Follow the instructions to
load the browser.

3) Click the “Safe Exam Browser Configuration File” to download the config file.
4) When the open/save prompt appears at the bottom of the screen, do not click Open or Save.
Instead click the down arrow next to “Save”, and then click “Save as”. Save the
PAN_Lockdown_Browser config file to the test machine Desktop.

5) On the test machine desktop, there will be two icons. The Safe Exam Broswer icon (shortcut) should
be deleted from the desktop (do not uninstall the file, you will only remove the shortcut icon). The
PAN_Lockdown_Browser icon will remain. This icon will be used to launch the lockdown browser.
