SITE NAME: MALILI SITE 1

DISTANCE FROM TARMAC
THE CONSTRUCTION IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 5 KILOMETERS FROM THE NEAREST TARMAC ROAD. ACCESS TO THE SITE IS VIA A WELL
MAINTAINED MARRAM ROAD
TOPOGRAPHY
THE TOPOGRAPGHY OF THE SITE IS GENTLY SLOPED TOWARDS THE EAST. THE SLOPE WILL INFLUENCE THE HOUSE FOUNDATION DESIGN AND
TECHNIQUES LIKE STEPPED FOUNDATION MIGHT BE EMPLOYED.

OTHER CHALLENGES LIKE SOIL EROSION, ACCESSIBILITY(PATHWAYS, DRIVEWAYS), EXCAVATION AND GRADING SHOULD BE ADDRESSED
SITE IMAGE SHOWING THE TYPE OF VEGETATION. THIS
DURING THE DESIGN PHASE. IS CLEAR INDICATION THAT THE AREA EXPERIENCES
HOT AND DRY CLIMATE FOR THE LARGER PART OF
TYPE OF SOIL THE YEAR
THE SOIL COMPOSITION AT THE SITE PRIMARILY CONSISTS OF BLACK COTTON SOIL KNOWN FOR ITS QUICK WATER ABSORBANCE AND WATER
LOSS. BULK EXCAVATION WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ANY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS.

THE SITE HAS NO ACCESS TO WATER AND ELECTRICITY BOTH LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 1 KILOMETER FROM THE SITE

THE DIRECTION OF THE SUN IS SHOWN BY THE COMPASS IN PAGE 2. THE SITE ORIENTATION ALLOWS FOR OPTIMAL SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE
THROUGHOUT THE DAY, WITHOUT ANY SHADING ELEMENTS. DUE TO THE HOT AND DRY WEATHER CONDITION, THE HOUSE SHOULD BE
DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT SHOULD HAVE SMALL OR NO WINDOWS ON THE EAST AND WEST SIDE TO PREVENT OVERHEATING.
ALTERNATIVELY, SHADING DEVICES TO FORM PART OF THE DESIGN ON EAST AND WEST SIDE TO PREVENT DIRECT SUNLIGHT FROM REACHING
THE WINDOWS. PROPER VENTILATION TO BE CONSIDERED DURING DESIGN PHASE TO HELP WITH COOLING. TREES TO BE STRATEGICALLY
PLACED TO HELP WITH SHADING.

AVAILABILITY OF CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS


SAND IS LOCALLY AVAILABLE AND NOT FAR AWAY FROM THE SITE. BALLAST AND BUILDING STONES TO BE SOURCED IN LUKENYA AREAS. ITS
ADVISABLE THAT CEMENT AND STEEL TO BE SOURCED FROM NEARBY FACTORIES IN BULK. OTHERWISE LOCAL HARDWARES CAN SUPPLY
WHEN QUANTITY NEEDED IS NOT TOO MUCH.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
THE SITE IS SITUATED IN AN AREA WITH LIMITED PROSPECTS FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT. BUILDING HERE WOULD NECESSITATE A FOCUS ON
FORTIFICATION AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS, ACKNOWLEDGING THE CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENT FOR GROWTH AND EXPANSION. THE WATERWAY SITE IMAGE SHOWING THE RAINWATER WAY
NEAR THE SITE ALSO POSES A POTENTIAL THREAT IN THE EVENT OF HEAVY RAINFALL. ADJACENT TO THE SITE
