Work Method Statement

1. SCOPE
This Method Statement is to provide a controlled, systematic and standardized approach to
Low, medium voltage switchgear and Transformer, this method statement defines the method
and process to be adopted, to ensure that activities regarding the work are done in accordance
with Project Quality Plan, Site Safety Manual.
This Procedure applies to Low and medium voltage Switchgear including switchgear 13.8KV
panels, switchgear 380V panels, Motor control center (MCC) panels Preventive maintenance
work.

3. Method of Statement

a. Method of statement of Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV)switchgear (34.5KV,
13.8KV, 4.16KV & 380V)

i. Mechanical and visual inspection:


- Ensure that shutdown of Switchgear and protective grounds were performed.
- Check the tightening of bus bars compartment and connections.
- Check the tightening of Earthling switch (ESW) connections.
- Visual inspection of insulating materials for sign of Corona, tracking or breakage,
repair or replaced as required
- Check the tightening of Current transformer (CT) secondary connections.
- Check and cleaning of Voltage transformer (VT) fuses of metering compartment,
replaced as required
- Check Voltage transformer (VT) tightening secondary connections for metering
compartment
- Carry out Visual inspection and lubrication of contacts elements of Circuit breaker
(CB) compartment.
- Visual inspection of low voltage (LV) component for sign of overheating or burnt.
- Check the tightening of auxiliary connections of low voltage (LV) compartment.

ii. Clean all switchboard compartments and its components including bus bar, Current transformer
(CT), Voltage transformer (VT) Truck, Circuit Breaker (CB), Circuit Breaker (CB) Truck, Link and
earthling switch (ESW).

iii. Electrical test:


- Test the functionality of Circuit Breaker (CB), Circuit Breaker (CB) Truck, Link,
earthling switch (ESW) and its interlocks.
- Carry out bus bar section resistance test
- Check and test mechanical interlock (like between earthen switch and back door,
rack in of CB and earthen switch...etc.)
- Check the functionality of interlock mechanism in Circuit breaker (CB) compartment.
- Carry out Circuit breaker (CB) contact resistance test.
- Carry out Circuit breaker (CB) traveling test.
- Carry out voltage measurement after utility source is connected to incoming breaker
with the utility breaker open.
- Carry out Insulation Resistance Test prior to energize equipment.

b. Method of statement of Motor Control Center (MCC)

i. Mechanical and visual inspection:


- Check the tightening of bus bars connections
- Check the tightening of cable bus bar compartment and connections.
- Check the tightening of earthling switch (ESW) connections.
- Visual inspection of bus bar compartment insulating materials for sign of Corona,
tracking or breakage.
- Check the tightening of Current transformer (CT) secondary connections.
- Check and cleaning of Voltage transformer (VT) fuses of metering compartment.
- Check and cleaning of anti-Ferro resonance circuit for metering compartment.
- Check the tightening of Voltage transformer (VT) secondary connections for
metering compartment.
- Check the tightening of auxiliary connections of low voltage (LV) Compartment.
- Visual inspection of low voltage (LV) component for sign of overheating or burnt.
- Visual inspection and lubrication of contact fingers for MCC drawer and fixed parts.
- Check the tightening of auxiliary connections for MCC drawer and fixed parts.

ii. Clean all switchboard compartments and its components including bus bar, Current transformer
(CT), Voltage transformer (VT) Truck, Circuit Breaker (CB), Circuit Breaker (CB) Truck, Link and
earthling switch (ESW).

iii. Electrical test:


- Test the functionality of Circuit Breaker (CB), Circuit Breaker (CB) Truck, Link,
earthling switch (ESW) and its interlocks.
- Carry out bus bar contact resistance test.
- Test the interlock between earthling switch and back door.
- Carry out inspection and lubrication of contacts elements of Circuit Breaker (CB).
- Carry out the functionality of interlock mechanism of Circuit Breaker (CB).
- Carry out Circuit Breaker (CB) contact resistance test.
- Carry out Circuit Breaker (CB) traveling test.
- Carry out overload relay test for MCC drawer and fixed parts.

C. Method of statement of Transformer

i. Mechanical and visual inspection:


- Clean and Inspect primary and secondary terminals, for signal of overheating, loose
connection and discoloration.
- Clean and Inspect and re-tightening primary and secondary bushing, for signal of
crack, corona and tracking.
- Clean, Inspect the terminal gasket sealing for signal of damage.
- Re-tightened according to proper torquing all terminals and connections.

ii. Electrical test:


- Perform Insulation Resistance (IR) test for primary and secondary windings.
- Perform DC Winding Resistance test for primary and secondary windings.
- Perform Turns Ratio test for primary and secondary windings.
- Perform interlock/ inter-trip test between upstream feeder and downstream
transformer panel.
- Perform functional test to transformer mechanical protection devices such as
Buckholz relay, Oil level sensor, oil and winding temperature sensors and oil
pressure devices, replaced and tested as required.
