Depending on the national-market version and vehicle equipment, the light for the following
lighting functions will be generated with the LED headlight:

 Side lights
 Parking light
 Daytime driving lights
 Driving light
 High-beam headlight and headlight flasher
 Turn indicator
 Hazard warning flashers
 Cornering light (via a separate reflector)
 Adaptive Headlights
 Variable light distribution

The following graphic shows the left LED headlight using the example of F01.

Structure and inner electrical connection

Each headlight is connected to the footwell module by means of a 12-pin plug connection.

Pin Explanation
Terminal 30

Voltage supply for the left LED main light module (LHML) through front
Terminal 30 -
power distribution box.
Voltage supply for the right LED main light module (LHMR) through the
-
rear power distribution box.
Shutdown of terminal 30F in event of failure
Terminal 30F
Voltage supply for the left headlight driver module (STML) and right
-
headlight driver module (STMR) through the rear power distribution box.
Terminal 31L Terminal 31L, load earth
K‐CAN3 Body controller area network 3
LIN Local interconnect network bus (LIN BUS)
SIG Signal from the footwell module (FRM) for the activation of the turn indicator
Nominal values

Observe the following setpoint values for the left and right headlights:

Variable Value
Supply voltage 12 V
Voltage range 8 to 16 V
Temperature range -40 to 85 °C
Diagnosis instructions
Failure of the component:

If the left or right headlight fails, the following behaviour is to be expected:

 Fault entry in the footwell module (FRM)

 Check Control message

All bulbs of the exterior lighting are monitored by the footwell module (FRM) as of terminal
15 ON. The hot monitoring is based on current measurement of the individual bulb outputs.

 Hot monitoring with light ON

The hot monitoring is based on current measurement of the individual bulb outputs. A
faulty bulb is detected within approx. 2 seconds.

In the event of a failure in communication with the left headlight driver module (STML) or
right headlight driver module (STMR), carry out the standard tests (global test procedure). If
there is an internal control unit fault, the following behaviour is to be expected:

 Fault code entry in the left headlight driver module (STML) or right headlight driver
module (STMR)
 Check Control message in the instrument panel

In the case of a communication failure with the LED main light module on the left (LHML)
or the LED main headlight module on the right (LHMR) perform the standard checks (global
test module). If there is an internal control unit fault, the following behaviour is to be
expected:

 Fault code entry in the LED main light module on the left (LHML) or LED main
headlight module on the right (LHMR)
 Check Control message in the instrument panel
