What is a Resistor Used For?
Resistors are generally used to limit the current in a circuit, allowing them to be
used in various applications. What is a resistor used for? Some examples on how
to use resistors are given below:
Resistors are used to regulate the current in circuits containing light-emitting
diodes (LEDs) and transistors. These devices are sensitive to the amount of
current and need specific amounts to function properly. Resistors are also used as
timing sources, such as light flashers and electronic sirens. They are usually
connected to a capacitor and have the main role in controlling how fast the
capacitor stores the charge to be used for a specific function.
Resistors are commonly found in heating elements, such as electric heaters,
toasters, and electric stoves. When electricity flows through them, they become
hot enough to glow. Materials used as heating elements, such as nichrome, do
not necessarily require significantly high resistance values. They only need to have
enough resistance to produce heat but not too high to completely obstruct the
flow of current. Filaments of incandescent bulbs are examples of a resistor, which
slow down the current and make the material hot enough to glow.

Use Of Resistor In Day To Day Life?
We know that one of the main uses of resistor is to control the flow of current. In a
resistor, electrons have a collision with ions which slows down the flow of electricity and
lowers the current and also produces heat. If a resistor is said to have high resistance
then it means less current flows in it for the given voltage.
Because of the nature of generating heat when conducting current, resistors are
used in a Heater, Toaster, Microwave, Electric Stove, and many more heating
appliances. In a light bulb, the metal filament glows white-hot due to the very high
temperature produced from the resistance when electricity is passed through it.
