INTRODUCTION
Resorts offer a unique opportunity to escape the daily grind and indulge in a world of
relaxation, rejuvenation, and unparalleled hospitality. Whether you're planning a romantic
getaway, a family vacation, or a solo retreat, resorts provide the perfect setting to unwind and
create unforgettable memories. (Haud-Bovy 1998) defined resort as a place where people often
go, usually or mostly, for rest or recreation as on holiday. A destination. Resort is one which is
sufficiently appealing such that people will travel to it and stay at least one day and one night.
Resorts are establishments that provide a range of amenities, facilities, and services for
the purpose of leisure, relaxation, and entertainment. They are typically located in attractive or
scenic areas such as beaches, mountains, or other tourist destinations. Resorts often offer
accommodations, such as hotels, villas, or cabins, along with various recreational activities and
amenities to enhance the guest experience.
(In American English) a resort encompasses a sprawling commercial establishment
tailored to meet the diverse needs of vacationers, offering a plethora of amenities including
dining, accommodation, recreation, and shopping options conveniently located on-site.
Typically, a resort revolves around a central hotel hub, but some may also incorporate
condominium complexes, either as timeshares or wholly owned properties. While resorts may
not always be under single management, this became increasingly common in the late 20 th
century. Their primary objective is to attract a wide spectrum of vacationers by providing a
comprehensive range of amenities, with one or more hotels typically serving as focal points
alongside diverse on-site facilities such as dining areas, entertainment venues, retail outlets,
health services, and sports facilities. Additionally, resorts often extend beyond mere
accommodation, offering bars, restaurants, spas, casinos, swimming pools, golf courses, and ski
lifts. Conversely, in British English, the term “resort” predominantly refers to a town popular
among holidaymakers for leisure activities and accommodations, exemplified by destinations
like Blackpoll and Brighton.
(In the Philippines) resorts are establishments dedicated to fulfilling the needs of
vacationers, offering an extensive array of amenities and services on-site. These venues typically

(Resorts in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) provide distinctive experiences
amidst the region’s captivating mountainous terrain and rich cultural heritage. CAR, located in
northern Philippines, is renowned for its breath taking rice terraces, vibrant indigenous
communities, and diverse ecotourism attractions. Catering to a broad range of travelers, CAR
resorts cater to adventurers seeking outdoor activities as well as those longing for cultural
immersion and relaxation. These resorts typically offer accommodations ranging from cozy

tribes. Adventure enthusiasts can partake in activities like hiking, trekking, spelunking, and river
rafting, while others may opt for cultural experiences such as attending traditional festivals,
engaging in community activities, or learning about indigenous customs and traditions.
Additionally, CAR resorts offer amenities such as wellness spas, restaurants serving local

(Zhang D. and Xie J. 2021) Seasonality is a critical factor that affects various aspects of
resort businesses, including customer demand, revenue generation, staffing, and overall
operational efficiency. The operation and management of resorts are significantly influenced by
seasonality. Resorts often experience distinct peaks and troughs in customer demand throughout
the year, which can pose both opportunities and challenges for managers. Understanding the
impact of seasonality on resort operations is crucial for developing effective management
strategies that optimize revenue and customer satisfaction. Seasonality refers to the fluctuations
in demand for tourism products and services that occur at different times of the year due to
various factors such as weather conditions, holidays, and cultural events. Resorts typically
experience high demand during peak seasons, characterized by increased occupancy rates, higher
rates of customer spending, and a wide range of activities and amenities. Conversely, off-peak
seasons witness reduced demand, lower occupancy rates, and limited services and facilities.
This study aims to investigate “The impact of seasonality in the operation and
management of Dian and Quemerista (DNQ), Casa Nostra, and Serenitee resorts in Bangued,
Abra. Specifically, it will look at how variations in demand throughout the year impact staffing,
and customer satisfaction, among other aspects of resort management. By doing so, it will offer

whole industry. Due to the increasing number of tourism enterprises and the fact that they are

seasonality vary depending on the location and nature of destination and its attractions (Buam
and Hagen 1994).
According to Chung (2009) emphasizes lack of job demand in off-peak season and
decreases of employment rates. Therefore employees are likely to leave the destination in order
to find more stable employment.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter discusses in detail the methodological choice and the process of the research
design in the study on “The Impact of seasonality in the Operation and Management of Dian and
Quemerista (DNQ), Casa Nostra, and Serenitee Resorts in Bangued, Abra”. This is important
since it made clear and reveal the assumptions, leading to decisions that are applied to the
research’s aim, design, technique, and procedures, as well as data analysis and interpretation. It
particularly explains why the explanatory sequential mixed methods research strategy is deemed
acceptable for the study. Furthermore, the chapter established the method for collecting,
analyzing and reporting data.
Research Design.
This study makes use of the descriptive design of qualitative research. The descriptive
method of research according to Shona McCombes. Descriptive research aims to accurately and
systematically describe a population, situation or phenomenon. It can answer what, where, when
and how questions, but not why questions.
A descriptive research design can use a wide variety of research methods to investigate
one or more variables. It is subjected to answer the "what's" of every research study. This
approach was utilized to find out what actually exists such as current conditions, problem about
seasonality in resorts, at the province of Abra.
Research Instruments used in the research study are survey forms checklist and rating
scales, face to face Interview and observation. These chosen instruments will be used in the
collection of data to test the validity and reliability of the research study being conducted.
Survey forms will be used in data collection. A systematically prepared form with a set of
questions designed to get and produce responses from respondents. Researchers already have a
readymade and comprehensive set of questions.
Interviews will be used to meet face to face with individuals to interact and generate
ideas for coming from the customers who have experienced seasonal variations in resorts in
Bangued, Abra and staffs. It is an interaction in which oral questions are posed by the
interviewee. The researcher has to identify a potential source of information, and structure the
interaction in a manner that will bring our relevant information from the respondents.
This qualitative study will be using Semi-Structured Questionnaires to obtain data from
the respondent. The following are the ratings and descriptive interpretations of the instrument
being used of the study.
the researcher. The survey was comprised of (15) questions. In the questionnaire, like scale
was used to determine if the respondents agreed or disagreed in a statement. After the subject
professor validated the questionnaire, these were distributed to the staffs of the resorts and
customers who have experienced seasonal variations in Bangued, Abra. The researchers assumed
confidentially of their survey sheets since the identities are not important. The researchers also
understand that people’s consciousness may also affect their honesty and effectiveness in
answering the survey and so, the researchers give people the option of being anonymous.
Participants were given time to respond and the researchers collected the surveys right after they
finished. There were no incentives offered for participating in the research. Next, the researcher
planned the questions that they would be asking in the interview. The researchers interviewed
certain number of other potential customers walking outside the premises for more information.
