1. Give details of your current circumstances.

This includes ties to family,


community, employment and economic circumstances.

• Details about your personal circumstances including:


o Family information and background.
o Family and community ties in your home country.
o Do you have family ties in Australia.
o Are you married. If yes, indicate if you intend on bringing your spouse
and/or children to Australia.
• Details of previous education.
o What level of study you have completed previously.
o When did you complete this study and at what institution in which country.
o How have you utilised your previous study in your work (if applicable).
• Details of current work experience (if applicable).
o Where have you recently been employed.
o Details of position held
o Period of employment
• Details of your economic background
o How are you funding your study and living expenses.

2. Explain why you wish to study your course in Australia with the University of
Tasmania. This must also explain your understanding of the requirements of
the intended course and studying and living in Australia.

• Details about your study.


o Why you have chosen Australia.
o Provide reasons for not studying in their home country if a similar course is
available.
o Why you have chosen the University of Tasmania.
o Why you have chosen your selected course.
o Research about what is involved in your selected course, including course
length.
• Reasons for change of course and/or education providers (if applicable).
• Planned living arrangements.

3. Explain the benefit to you of completing this course.

• How the course will assist them to obtain employment or improve employment
prospect in their home country or another country.
• Is relevant to past or proposed future employment in their home country or
another country
• Expected salary and other benefits in their home country or another country
obtained with the applicant’s qualifications from the proposed course of study.

4. Give details of any other relevant information you would like to include.

• Personal ties to your home country, including family, cultural and community
incentives to return home.
• Discuss financial incentives to return to your home country. You must show that
returning is financially a good reason for returning home. This may include
explaining expected family inheritance including amounts and future promotion
prospects in your work.

5. (Only if applicable) If the applicant is currently the holder of a visa other than
a (subclass 500) student visa, explain the reason for lodging a student visa
application in Australia.

• The reasoning for applying for a change of visa type.


• Why have your plans changed since obtaining your previous visa?

• Answers must be written in English.


• Maximum of 150 words per question.
• You must not copy and paste information from a website.
• Your GS Questions should be written in the first-person perspective.
• Question 5 is an additional question only for those applicants who have previously
held a student visa or those who are lodging an application in Australia from a non-
student visa.
• Generic statements unsupported by evidence are not given significant weight in the
GS assessment. This means it is important to provide evidence to support a claim
made by you.
• Your GS Statement is the same as the responses you will provide to the Department
of Home Affairs with your visa application.
