Many Filipinos consider eating as a pleasure. This love for eating is one of the reasons why
entrepreneurs venture into the food business industry but if you come to think of it, without
the suppliers of meat, fish, fruits, and vegetables then no food would be prepared, cooked,
and sold. This is the primary reason why agriculture is vital to the growth and development of
any nation as it helps in the expansion of the economy.
2
What to Cultivate?

● discuss one's characteristics, attributes, lifestyle, skills, and traits and compare it to that
of a common Filipino farmer;
● name common farm animal products in the Philippines;
● analyze the motivation of customers in the purchase of farm animal products; and
● create a commercial showcasing a farm animal product of choice.

Dig In!
Agriculture is the cultivation of land and breeding of animals and plants for the production of
the basic needs of men such as food, clothing, and shelter. Under the broad study of
agriculture is animal production or animal husbandry. Animal production is a specific
discipline under agriculture which deals in the breeding and raising of livestock. Other
disciplines under agriculture that were given focus in the K to 12 Curriculum in the Philippines
are Horticulture, Crop Production, Aquaculture, and Food Processing (Fish). All are equally
important as these competencies contribute to the growth and development of the country
through self-sufficiency and economic and trade exchange.

Table 2. Customers’ Characteristics
Brand Loyalty Filipino customers tend to stick to a brand they’ve been using for a
long time. However, this does not mean they do not entertain new
brands. Customers entertain new brands if they see that they an
innovative, of quality, and cheap but then the difficulty for any brand is
to sustain the customer’s desire to patronize the product.
Advertisement The Filipino customer believes in the credibility of the person

advertising products. It is one way of enticing them to try the product
for themselves. The evolution of mass media surely paved the way to
improved advertisements from simple brochures, radio broadcast, to
TV commercials, and now social media platforms.
Value for Money The Filipino customer is a hard-working one that is why they only want
to get most of their money. Promotions such as buy 1 take 1 and even
the seasonal sale and discount are availed by the customers. It is to get
good quality products for cheaper price that makes the customers
practical.
Products pertain to the goods manufactured through natural or chemical means. In our
country, the most common farm animals managed are pigs, cows, and chickens.

Product Commercial
What was the last product that you bought? How were you able to learn about that product?
What convinced you to buy such a product? Perhaps a well planned and very creative
commercial motivated you to do so. So how about making your own commercial? You must
form a group with seven to five members and come up with a commercial about a chosen
product in animal production or animal husbandry. The commercial should be good for two
minutes only.
