This Department
In order to ensure uniformity in the application/ adoption of the Pay Items of Work to be
used/ adopted by those who are involved in the preparation of the Design Plans and
Quantities, Program of Works (POW) and Approved Budget for the Contract (ABC) for
Infrastructure Projects Nationwide, the DPWH Standard Specification for
Item 311(7) - Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) with Macro-Synthetic
Fiber is hereby prescribed for adoption in Government infrastructure projects that require the
utilization of such in the Program of Works.
This Standard Specification shall form part of the DPWH Standard Specifications for Highways,
Bridges and Airports, Volume II, 2012 Edition.
This supersedes Department Order No. 29, Series of 2019 (Inclusion to Item 311 - Portland
Cement Concrete Pavement of Items 311(7) and 311(8) - Macro Synthetic Fibe~ Unreinforced
and Reinforced, Respectively) and shall take effect immediately.
14.1.2 MLL/RPF
DPWH Standard Specification for Item 311(7) - Portland Cement Concrete
Pavement (PCCP) with Macro Synthetic Fiber
311(7).1 Description
This Item shall consist of furnishing and placing of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement
(PCCP) with Macro Synthetic Fibers on the prepared base in accordance with this
specification and in conformity with the lines, grades, thickness, width and typical cross-
section shown on the Plans.
311(7).2.4 Water
It shall conform to Subsection 311.2.11, Storage of Cement and Aggregate of Item 311,
PCCP.
Macro Synthetic fibers are packed in the desired measured quantities in either degradable
paper bags, plastic bags and/or bulka bags. Paper bags can be put directly into the concrete
track or opened and the loose fiber dispensed. The plastic bags are not degradable and will
need to be opened before dispensing into the concrete track.
All Macro-synthetic fibers shall be stored, immediately upon delivery at site, on a clean dry
surface, whether indoor or outdoor, as long as with cover which shall protect the packaging
of Macro Synthetic Fibers from water damage.
It shall conform to ACI Report 544.3R-08, "Guide for Specifying, Proportioning and
Production of Fiber-Reinforced Concrete."
The peak flexural strength of Fiber-Reinforced Concrete shall not be less than 3.8 MPa at its
design age when tested with the applicable requirements for sampling and conditioning
given in accordance with ASTM Test Method C1609M -19a, Standard Test Method for
Flexural Performance of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (Using Beam with Third-Point Loading).
The minimum residual flexural strength at L/600 and L/150 shall not be less than 35% and
25%, respectively.
The amount of Synthetic Fiber to be added in a concrete mix shall not be less than 2.5 kg
per cubic meter of concrete. Trial mixes shall be done in conformance to ASTM C1116M,
Standard Specification For Fiber-Reinforced Concrete. Mixing of Macro Synthetic Fibers shall
conform to ACI 304R-OO, Guide for Measuring, Mixing, Transporting, and Placing Concrete.
311(7).3.2 Curing
The area to be paid for under this Item shall be the number of square meters (m2) of
concrete pavement placed and accepted in the completed pavement. The width for
measurement will be the width from outside edge to outside edge of completed pavement
as placed in accordance with the Plans. The length will be measured horizontally along the
center line of concrete pavement.
