IV. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURES

Before/Pre-Lesson Proper
Teacher: Good morning or afternoon, everyone! Welcome to our

Teacher: Great response! One final question; How do you view the
internet as a research tool? What are some considerations you take
when selecting a website for gathering information?

(Student will answer the question)

Teacher: I am impressed with all the ideas you have shared! Well
done!

safely. This morning, we'll dive into the world of online safety, security,

Process Questions:
1. What would you do in this kind of situation?
2. What do you think are the potential risk of giving your personal
information to unknown websites?
3. How can you protect yourself from similar scams in the future?

Teacher: Remember, your personal information is valuable. Be

cautious about what you share online and always be on the lookout of
phishing scams. They often use enticing offers like free trips or prizes
to lure you in. But there’s more than that, their real goal is steal your
identity and money.

Teacher: Let us now have the second scenario.

You are participating in an online class discussion forum for your

English class. Your classmate has posted a detailed opinion on a
particular interpretation of a novel that you strongly disagree with.
He argues that the protagonist’s actions were entirely justified, which
contradicts your belief that the actions were morally wrong. You feel
compelled to respond, but unsure how to express your disagreement
respectfully.

Process Questions:
1. How can you respond to your classmate’s post in a respectful and
constructive manner?
2. What are the consequences of not following proper netiquette in
online discussions?
3. How does practicing good netiquette contribute to a positive and
productive online learning environment?

Teacher: In the given situation, we are emphasizing netiquette.

Netiquette is a combination of the words 'net' and 'etiquette,'. This
refers to the set of rules for behaving properly online.

According to Virginia Shea's The Core Rules of Netiquette, there are

seven rules of netiquette.
1. Remember the Human. Remember, all your written words will
be
read by a person, all deserving to be respected.
2. Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow

6. Share expert knowledge
7. Help keep flame wars under control
8. Respect other people's privacy
9. Don't abuse your power
10. Be forgiving of other people's mistakes
Let us discuss the importance of being respectful when communicating
on the internet. Just like we show respect to each other in person, it's
crucial to do the same online. This means using kind words, avoiding
insults or negative comments, and treating others how you would like
to be treated.

As an online user, we must be mindful of what you share online. It's

essential to remember that once something is posted online, it can be
challenging to remove it completely.

So, think before you post - is this something you would be comfortable
with anyone seeing it.

Teacher: That’s a great point class. Take note class that online
discussion is like just a face-to-face conversation that require empathy
and respect. You must focus on the argument and not to the person
you are talking with. Always be respectful of different opinions. Also,
remember to treat others online with the same respect you'd expect in
face-to-face conversation.

Teacher: Now, this is our third scenario.

You are working on a history project about the Industrial Revolution.
You found a website that has detailed information and decide to use
it as a primary source. However, the website lacks citations and was
created by an anonymous author. Unsure of the site's credibility, you
decide to use an AI tool to analyze the content and check its
reliability.

Process Questions:
1. How can you use the AI tool to determine the credibility of the
information on the website?
2. Why is it important for you to cross-verify the information from the
website with other credible sources?
3. How can you use AI to detect any potential bias in the website’s
content?

Teacher: With all the advanced features of technology, it is important

to remember that they are not magic bullet, they are just one tool in
your research toolkit. So in using AI as your credible source, always
check the content against reputable websites to know if there are
discrepancies.

Teacher: Alright. I am glad that you were able to relate your ideas and
knowledge learned to this hypothetical situations in the online world.
4
Teacher: With all the discussion we had a while ago, how do you think
understanding online safety, security, ethics, etiquette, and credibility
can help you navigate the digital world effectively?

Possible answer: I think these are essential for effectively navigating the
digital world. We can prevent theft, financial loss, and privacy
breaches. Also if we understand digital etiquette, we can promote a

Teacher: That is correct! We’ve highlighted several key points that are
crucial in online navigation safely and responsibly. When we know all
these things, we can protect our personal and financial information,
create a positive online environment, and utilize internet as credible
source of our work.

Deepening Teacher: This time, we will have an activity that will require you to

(15 mins) minutes, you will write a three-paragraph reflection essay that
incorporates your personal experiences, insights, and learning.

You may use the following reflection prompts:

1. Describe a time when you encountered an online safety or security
issue. How did you handle the situation?
2. How do you ensure that your digital presence is secure?
3. Have you faced ethical dilemmas online? How did you address
them?
4. How do you practice online netiquette?

you take to verify the information presented, and what was the
outcome?
