*Scene: on the way to the port*

VSL-Capt.: (addressing the team) Alright, everyone, we're approaching the port for berthing. Let's
ensure a smooth operation. Chief Mate, please oversee all deck preparations.

Chief Mate: Aye, Captain. Bosun, make sure the mooring lines are ready, and Deck Cadet, assist in
securing the gangway.

Second Mate: (checking navigational equipment) Captain, we have clearance for berthing. Third Mate,
please assist with monitoring our approach.

Third Mate: Aye, Second Mate.

Pilot-Capt.: (to Master) Captain, I'll take control from here. I'll guide the ship into the berth.

VSL-Capt.: Thank you, Pilot. I'll be right here with you, and we'll rely on your expertise.

*Start of berthing*
Pilot-Capt.: Okay, Captain. The procedure would be 4-2-2 spring line first and drop the anchor by brake.

VSL-Capt.: Okay, acknowledge.

: Duty officers, do you read?

Duty Offs: Yes, Captain.

VSL-Capt.: The procedure would be, as we approach the port, drop anchor by bake and we will go until 3
shackles on deck and hold. Wait for the order, not running.

Duty Offs: (Remain silent)

VSL-Capt.: Only for your knowledge that we know.

Duty Offs: Acknowledge, Captain.

VSL-Capt.: First line will be spring line and after that 4 headlines.

*Anchor and Giving mooring lines*

Pilot-Capt.: Okay Captain, mooring boat is now ready to take the forward spring line.

VSL-Capt.: Relay information to the forward team, send forward spring to mooring boat and standby
anchor

Third mate: Chief mate, do you copy?

Chief mate: Yes, Third mate. Loud and clear.

Third mate: Please send the spring line to the mooring boat.
: Tell me if you like standby anchor.

Chief mate: Spring line passed to mooring boat, Third mate.

Third mate: Copy that.

: Captain, the spring has been pass to the boat, sir.

VSL-Capt.: Tell them to accompany the boat and give them more.

Third mate: Okay, please accompany the mooring boat to slack off more of the mooring line.

: Standby starboard anchor.

Chief mate: Okay, Third.

: Starboard anchor standby, Third.

VSL-Capt.: Okay, now let go starboard anchor and open fully break.

Third mate: Let go Starboard Anchor, please.

Chief mate: Let go starboard anchor.

Third mate: Open fully break.

VSL-Capt.: How many shackle on deck? Tell them to hold on 3.

Third mate: How many shackles?

Chief mate: 1 and ⅟₂ shackles, Third.

Third mate: 3 Shackles on deck and hold.

Chief mate: Okay.

: 3 Shackles on deck. Chain leading up and down.

Third mate: Hold on please.

VSL-Capt.: Okay, heave up forward spring line and prepare 4 headlines. Do it fast.

Third mate: Heave up forward spring lines and prepare 4 headlines for the mooring boat.

Chief mate: Understood! Heave up spring and four headlines to pass.

Third mate: Okay, and do it fast, please.

Chief mate: Okay, third!

Third mate: We don’t need to fully tight?

VSL-Capt.: Tight and hold. Report on anchor.

Third mate: Tight and hold on for forward spring line. Status on the anchor, sir?

Chief mate: Chain leading to 5’oclock, short stay, third.


: Spring line pass to mooring boat now and we’re slacking headlines.

VSL-Capt.: Be careful with the spring line. We’re going dead slow ahead. Not too tight.

Third mate: Sir, we are going dead slow ahead, please be careful with the spring, not too tight.

Chief mate: Copy, second.

: headline to port bollard.

Third mate: Okay, heave up headline.

Chief mate: Okay, heaving up head.

Pilot-Capt.: Captain, prepare 2 aft spring.

VSL-Capt.: Third, relay information to astern team. Prepare 2 aft spring. Tell them to do it fast.

Third mate: Second mate, please prepare 2 aft spring.

Second mate: Yes, Second. Preparing aft spring.

*Closing in to the port *

Pilot-Capt.: Captain please prepare 4 stern line.

VSL-Capt.: Position. Position… Vessel Position. Now tight the spring and prepare 4 stern line for
mooring boat. This position.

: Chief mate, hold on headline and send one more spring.

Chief mate: Sir, hold on headline and send one more spring to send.

Third mate: Second, hold on the spring and prepare 4 stern line.

Second mate: Yes, sir. I will pick up spring line and then heave up 4 stern line.

VSL-Capt.: Just keep this position. Aft springs make secure and keep 4 Stern lines.

Third mate: keep this position. Aft springs make secure and keep 4 Stern lines please.

Pilot-Capt.: Captain please prepare 2 breast line, forward and aft to pass.

VSL-Capt.: Third mate, relay information forward and stern teams. Prepare breast lines to pass.

Third mate: Aye, Captain. Chief mate, second mate, please prepare 2 breast line to pass.

Chief mate and Second mate: Breast line to port bollard.

VSL-Capt.: Okay, now secure all lines

Third mate: Chief and second mate, please heave up breast, secure springs and make fast of headlines.

Chief mate: Springs and head made fast and secured.


Second mate: Third mate, aft springs and stern lines are now Secured

VSL-Capt.: (to the entire team) Thank you, everyone, for a job well done. This berthing operation was a
success because of your dedication and teamwork.
