A IS FOR ALLIGATOR

- ANIMAL MANAGERIE
Designed by Caroline Legg ~ Crochelina Patterns June 2018

Pattern Notes:
This alligator was made using Scheepjes Cotana yarn. Below I have links Skill Level
showing where to get it online as it is a European yarn brand and isn't found
in many stores in the US yet! Intermediate
Time taken:
If you would like to use a different yarn then you will need to get 1 ball of yarn ~4 hours~
in green 3 ply (sports weight), 1 ball of yarn in dark beige 3 ply, a little scrap
ball of yarn in peach 3 ply, a little scrap ball of yarn in light green 3 ply for the
back ridges, and a little scrap ball of yarn in white 3ply to sew the mouth to-
gether and make teeth. Also if you want to make a bigger alligator just use 4
ply and a larger hook to match maybe a 4 mm or 4.25.

Yarn:
1 Ball Scheepjes Cotana 502 Camel
1 Ball Scheepjes Cotana 412 Forest Green
Optional: (You can instead use scraps of yarn you have of similar color since
you don't need much for the peach mouth or white teeth)

1 Ball Scheepjes Yarn Cotana 252 Watermelon (For the Mouth)

1 Ball Scheepjes Yarn Cotana 106 Snow White (For the Teeth)
1 Ball Scheepjes Yarn Cotana 515 Emerald (For the Back Ridges)

Safety Eyes: 6 mm eyes are prefered. Buy a bunch or a Buy a variety

Hook: 3 mm hook Buy Full Hook Set Here Or Get a great 3.0 mm hook
here
Needle: You always need a large eyed blunt needle for sewing in ends!

Sewing and Stuffing...Eyes and Ridges!
Now that you have everything crocheted we are going to start sewing the alligator together! Here's how
I did it (I really recommend watching the part 2 video to see how I assembled everything!):

1. Use your white yarn to sew the mouth to the top and bottom part of the alligator. Start at one cheek
corner. I start at the 2nd of the 4 stitches of the cheek and match the green and beige part on top of
each other and match the mouth in between. With the stitches matched up you should be able to
whip stitch the mouth together. Check out the part 2 of the video if you are not sure how to sew the
mouth together. Go all the way around to the other side leaving one stitch of the cheeks not sewn.
2. Starting on one side of the alligator into that last stitch of the cheek you didn't sew in, use your
green yarn to stitch the top to the bottom all the way across. When you get to a leg stitch the flap of
the leg to the beige bottom. You will find the green tail is longer than the beige, just sew all the way
to the beige then fold the green tail over and sew it together, finally continue down the other side.
Stop when you get to the 3rd foot.
3. Put the safety eyes in at this point and then start stuffing. Be careful not to over stuff the mouth or
his mouth will stay open really wide. Once you finish stuffing the body continue stitching the bodies
together. Sew in all ends.
4. Using a hook or a flat head screw driver stuff each of the legs and then sew the legs closed by sew-
ing into each stitch around the foot then pulling tight and sewing in ends.

Finally you will need to crochet the ridges! Start with the middle ridge at the base of the neck. Attach
your light green yarn. Ch2. [Sl st into the next gap/stitch. Ch2.] Repeat till you get down to the tail. Then
do the same thing on either side this time shorter. Sew in the ends and your done!
