100 Reasoning & Problem Solving Questions for SATs

About Matr
We are the largest maths tutoring community
in the UK providing online one-to-one maths
tuition to thousands of children aged 7 to 11.

Matr’s weekly one-to-one maths

lessons are a fun, confidence-building
experience for your child and are aligned to
the National Curriculum.

We offer flexibility and great value to fit in

with your busy life. We lessen the stress of homework, ensure your child is making
excellent progress and help prepare them for the trials and tribulations of primary school maths
exams.

How we support children for KS2 Maths SATS

Our SATs programme for 2019 enables children to revise the most important topics for their
Arithmetic and Reasoning tests in the most efficient way possible. We have helped over
45,000 children prepare for SATs since 2012. This means that as well as the knowledge we
have gained from looking at past SATs papers, we also have our own data from a huge number
of children on the areas of maths that they find the most difficult. From this we have developed
the most engaging and fun strategies to help each and every pupil achieve the best the results
possible in SATs.

Each SATs lesson includes plenty of practice SATs-style questions as well as a

support section to help plug gaps in children’s learning, if required, and extension questions
to stretch and challenge children to achieve further.

One-to-one maths tuition is recognised by many, including

teachers, as an outstanding way for any child to make
progress in maths and to achieve the best grades possible.
Visit matr.org to secure your child’s place on our SATs
programme today.

25 KS2 SATs Questions: Arithmetic and Reasoning

About this resource

Do not use a calculator to answer any questions in this work book.

You could work through these questions with your child, or leave them to try a set of 5 questions.
You could then mark the questions they’ve attempted and work through those they are unfamiliar
with together.

Some might find choosing a mixture of questions from each section works best for their child; others
might wish to work through in a more orderly fashion - starting with sets of place value questions,
followed by addition and subtraction, then sets of fractions questions, with shape and angles being
used last.

It’s important to adapt use of these questions to each child’s needs and what they’re most
comfortable with - that’s the power of working one-to-one with children.

We would advise against setting too many questions at any given time - maths practice is best when
it is done little by little and as often as possible.

Advice for your child:

• Follow the instructions for each question.

• If you need to do working out, you can use the space around the question.
• For these questions, you may get a mark for showing your method.
• If you cannot do a question, go on to the next one.
• Remember go back and check your work.

Marks

• The number under each line at the side of the page tells you the maximum
number of marks for each question.

If you’re looking for an extra confidence boost or some further mathematical challenge for your
child, Matr is here to help with our fun and affordable home-based online one-to-one specialist
maths tuition.
