Manuel – Version 1.

Foreword from the developer

Pokémon Retired Champion is a Pokémon fangame that I've been developing alone for a bit more than two
years.
Thanks to the help of my three devoted beta-testers, Opal, SuoiretsymL and Sharq, my game is now playable!
Synopsis

Einra, like most adventurers, roams the lands and seas with a singular focus of becoming the very best. Faithful
Gym Leaders, Elite four, Champion, Team Generic Evil, all presented values and ambitions, but none presented
a challenge.

Uninterested in any further adventures, Einra one day found an abandoned amusement park, and with the help of
his longtime friends, restored it to what is now a well-known Castle of Challenges. Parkgoers come for the thrill
of building a team of Pokémons from roster and challenging one another.

Einra and his friends fight fulfilling battles nearly every day, and nearly every day was contently peaceful... that
is until... odd-coloured Pokémons are found at the amusement park.

Contents

- Around 10~15 hours of gameplay.

- A character-driven story. Enjoy a new formula of Pokémon fangames that doesn't mimic the formula of
official games (e.g. no badges, no gyms, no Elite 4).
- All Pokémons* from Gen 1 to 8, including the new content from Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
- Around 130 new Pokémon forms, ~40 new moves, ~30 new abilities, ~40 new items.
- Some Pokémons have been re-balanced (list below).
- Mega-Evolutions, Z-moves and Dynamax are all available.
- New battle mechanic: Assistance. Let a Pokémon from your team help another one in battle!
- New battle mechanic: Battle Royale. Challenge up to 5 other trainers at the same time and try to be the last one
standing!
- New battle mechanic: Move Seeds. Directly set-up a Pokémon on switching in!
- More chaotic multi battle! Try your best at 4v4, 5v5, and 6v6!
- A high focus on strategic battles: enjoy multiple tiers**, battle formats and rulesets!
- Enter challenging battles in which being overpowered cannot help you win, good luck and have fun on your
plays of strategies!
- No catching, no farming. Instead, enjoy a Pokémon Showdown-like menu to strategically build synergic
teams!
- Don’t know how to build a team? Try the random team generator!
- If the battles are too hard for you, the difficulty will adapt to your win rate.
- Most of the time, you can focus on fighting and move the story when you decide.

* YES I use a plural form for “Pokémon”. I know it’s a trademark, but I need to have a plural to avoid
ambiguity.
** The abovementioned tiers are NOT Smogon-like tiers.

Installation

Just unzip the game, and click Game.exe to launch it.

Before starting the game, you need to install the fonts. On Windows, go to the Fonts folder, select all fonts, right
click and choose “Install” or “Install for all users”.

Rebalances, edits and details.

Global changes
Dark Void gets its 80% precision back.
The damage of some moves were boosted: Luster Purge (70 -> 95) and Hyperspace Hole (80 -> 95).
Teleport, U-turn, Flip-turn, Volt-Switch and Parting Shot now allow you to switch with Pokémons that are in
battle (this addition makes sense in 4v4 battles for example).
New weather: Tempest, which blows entry hazards at the end of the turn.
New terrain: Magnetic terrain, which basically gives Air Balloons to every Electric or Steel-type Pokémons.
The Eeveelutions now summon the terrain / weather corresponding to their type. Many other Pokémons now
summon a terrain or a weather.
Rework of Stockpile / Swallow / Spit Up: Swallow and Spit Up decrease Stockpile levels by 1 instead of losing
everything.
Klutz now only affects the items that are given to the user in battle, for example with Trick or Schwiteroo.
The protection of Endure now lasts two turns. However, it can save the life of a Pokémon only one turn. So if the
Pokémon endures fatal hits the first turn, then it will no longer endure the second turn.
Telepathy usually allows the holder to avoid damage coming from attacks by allies; now it also allows the holder
to not hit allies (e.g. Gardevoir’s Earthquake doesn’t hit its allies).

New content from Pokémon Legends: Arceus

All Pokémons have a merged learnset (list of moves they learn) from all games. Also, new forms and new
Pokémons inherit from the learnset of similar Pokémons, e.g. Hisuan Growlithe gets part of the learnset of
normal Growlithe, and Enamorus gets part of the learnset that Landorus, Thundurus and Tornadus have.
All moves that affect “offensive stats” now affect both Attack and Special Attack.
All moves that affect “defensive stats” now affect both Defense and Special Defense.
All moves that affect “action speed” now affect the usual Speed.
Frostbite was added, and the only moves that inflict Frostbite are from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Some moves
or abilities that interact with statuses (meaning: cure or inflict) were adapted to take Frostbite into account.
Drowsy was not added. When a move should inflict “Drowsy”, it inflicts “Sleep” instead.

Fossil Pokémons get new forms. This is story-related.

New custom moves

Paleo Drain is a Rock-type equivalent to Giga Drain. Only Kabuto and Kabutops can learn it.
Ghost Gallop is a Ghost-type equivalent to Flame Charge. Only Ponyta and Rapidash forms can learn it.
Kindling is a Fire-type equivalent to Calm Mind. Most Fire-type Pokémons can learn it.
Fast Swoop is a Flying-type equivalent to Quick-Attack. Most “birds” can learn it.
Magnetic Terrain is a new terrain that basically gives the Air Balloon effect to every Steel or Electric Pokémon
in battle. Most Steel or Electric Pokémons can learn it.
Autumn Tempest is a new weather that blows away each Entry Hazard at the end of each turn. Most Flying-type
Pokémons can learn it.
Carboniferous is a field effect like Gravity or Trick Room, that boosts Bug-type Pokémons: reduces damage
taken from Rock-type moves, boosts all stats, and slightly heals at the end of each turn.
War Mandala, Mind Mandala and Warm Welcome are “Entry Boosts”, that boost the stats of Pokémon that
enters battle. The War Mandala raises Attack and disappears after two activations, the Mind Mandala raises
Special Attack and disappears after two activations, and Warm Welcome raises both but disappears after the first
activation.
Relaxing Purring is a Normal-type status move that most cat Pokémons can learn. It heals allies by 30%.
New Z-moves
New status moves from Generation 8 and Pokémon Legends: Arceus do not have a dedicated Z-move effect in
the main game (of course). For the sake of consistence, a Z-move effect was added to them:

Move Z-effect
Clangourous Soul Heals HP
Coaching Raises Attack by 1 stage
Corrosive Gas Raises Special Defense by 1 stage
Court Change Raises Speed by 1 stage
Decorate Raises Special Defense by 1 stage
Jungle Healing Resets any decreased stat
Life Dew Resets any decreased stat
Lunar Blessing Raises Defense and Special defense by 1 stage
Magic Powder Raises Special Attack by 1 stage
No Retreat Heals HP
Obstruct Resets any decreased stat
Octolock Raises Defense by1 stage
Power Shift Resets any decreased stat
Shelter Resets any decreased stat
Stuff Cheeks Heals HP
Take Heart Heals HP
Tar Shot Raises Speed by 1 stage
Teatime Raises all stats by 1 stage
Victory Dance Resets any decreased stat

My new status moves also get a Z-move effect:

Move Z-effect
Autumn Tempest Resets any decreased stat
Carboniferous Heals HP
Kindling Resets any decreased stat
Mind Mandala Raises Special Attack by 1 stage
Relaxing Purring Gets attention for one turn
War Mandala Raises Attack by 1 stage
Warm Welcome Raises Speed by 1 stage

When Spinda holds a Spindium-Z, Z-Teeter Dance becomes Confusion Solo Dance, which drastically boosts the
user’s stats.

New abilities
High Potential is a special equivalent to Huge Power. Only Luvdisc has it.
Bee Swarm is a duplicate of Parental Bond tailored for Vespiquen.
Swarm Guard is a duplicate of Magic Guard tailored for Vespiquen.
Sharp Edge is a new ability that raises the critical-hit ratio of slashing moves. Farfetch’d, Kricketune and
Honedge / Doublade has it.
Bird of Prey is a new ability that cancels the charging turn of Fly, Sky Attack and Bounce. Only Braviary
(normal form) and Fearow have it.
Parasitic Mould is a new ability that sets Leech Seeds to any Pokémon making contact. Only Paras and Parasect
have it.
Race Horse is a new ability that boosts the speed of the Pokémon on switch-in. Only Ponyta and Rapidash have
it.
Avenger is a new ability that drastically boosts the attack of the Pokémon if it is the last one in the team, or if a
partner dies in multiple battle (2v2, 3v3 and so on). Only Dunsparce has it.
Dragonborn is a new ability that gives the Dragon-type as a third type when entering battle. Only Charizard and
another story-related Pokémon have it.
Vampiric is a new ability that gives a draining effect to all biting moves. Only Zubat, Golbat and Crobat have it.
Predator is a new ability that boosts moves that are of the same type of the holder. Only Kabutops has it (in
which case, it will boost Water- and Rock-types moves against Water and Rock Pokémons).
Lava Monster is a new ability that turns Rock-type moves into Fire-type moves. In particular, it turns Stealth
Rock into Lava Trap. Only Magmar, Magmortar, Slugma and Magcargo have it.
Mine Clearer is a new ability that removes entry hazards on switch-in. Only the new form of Mr Mime has it.
Invasive is a new ability that creates a clone of the Pokémon when entering battle. Doesn’t work in 6v6. Only
Raticate has it.
Wind Rider is a new ability that cancels wind-moves (e.g. Air Slash, Hurricane) and boosts Speed. Many
“gliding” Pokémons have this ability (e.g. Jumpluff, Carnivine).
Mutate is a new ability that changes the form of Deoxys according to the move it uses.
Strong Wingbeat is a new ability that summons Tempest on switch-in. Lugia, Hoothoot, Noctowl, Taillow,
Swellow and Tropius have it.
Magnetic Surge is a new ability that summons Magnetic Terrain on switch-in. Bastiodon, Bronzong,
Magnezone, Probopass and their pre-evolutions have it.
Freezing is a Water-, and Ice-type equivalent to Water Absorb. Only Articuno has it.
Rock Solid, Ice Crystal and Titanium are new abilities that boost (respectively) Rock-type, Ice-type and Steel-
type moves. Only Regirock, Regice and Registeel (respectively) have them.
Wormhole is a new ability that cancels the charging turn and the recharging turn of two-turn moves like Hyper
Beam. Also avoids hitting, and being hit by allies, just like Telepathy. Only Palkia and Dialga have it.
Normalized is a new ability that ignores the type-effectiveness of Normal-type moves. This ability replaces
Normalize for Skitty and Delcatty.
Entity Of Void is a new ability that boosts Unown’s stats in battle, according to the number of Unowns in the
team.

New items
Two dozens of new items were added to the game to make Normal-type Pokémons stronger.
We first have the Efficiency Crystals, that grant a resistance to a given type, and make the holder’s Normal-type
moves super-effective against that given type. Example: Delcatty holding an Ice Efficiency Crystal will turn its
Normal-type moves super effective on Ice-type Pokémons, and will resist Ice-type moves.
The Normal Maxer boosts the power of all moves, provided the user is Normal-type.
The Coats give several type resistances to the holder, if it is Normal type. The resistances depend on the coat.
Magnetic Seed is a consumable item that boosts the Defense of the Pokémon if the terrain is magnetic.
Windy Rock prolongs the duration of Tempest, just like Smooth Rock for Sandstorm.
Eviolite Tren and Eviolite-Rita boosts (respectively) the Attack and Special Attack of the given Pokémon, if it
can evolve.
The Soul-Link is an item that allows its holder to call for Assistance.
Bee Wings is an item that boosts the speed of slow and weak Bug-type Pokémons.
The Crystal Ball is an item that protects its holder from moves from its allies. It is useful for 2v2 battles and
above. Note that it only reduces the damage.

Assistance
Assistance is the main new battle mechanic of this game. It allows a Pokémon in battle (the assistee), to be
helped by another Pokémon (the assistant). The assistee and the assistant will both use one of their moves, in the
order chosen at the activation, which allows for combos. Positive effects transfer between the two Pokémons,
including stat boosts, including Protect moves. For example, the assistee may use Nasty Plot, and then the
assistant will gain +2 in Special Attack for its move, and that bonus will be transferred back to the assistee.
The assistant is necessarily another Pokémon, but it can be in battle (in a 2v2 battle or higher) or in the team. If
the assistant already in battle, it will attack twice: once for the Assistance, and once for its normal turn.
Note that the damage of moves is modified in the context of Assistance: the first move used deals 75% of its
usual damage, and the second move deals 125% of its damage if the same move is used twice, 90% of its
damage if both moves have the same type, and 75% otherwise.
Note that Skitty and Delcatty (both forms) also learns a move that calls for Assistance, and the assistant will deal
150% of its usual damage, but the assistee doesn’t attack twice.

Generation 1
Kabuto and Kabutops (which are my favourite Pokémons) gain access to Paleo-Drain, a Rock-type physical
equivalent of Giga-drain.
Mega-Gyarados remains Water/Flying. This is because Gyarados now has four forms with different typings.
Articuno gets new abilities: Water-Absorb-like ability that makes it immune to Ice and Water types, and Snow
Warning.
Fearow and Braviary now have a new ability, Bird of Prey, that gives priority on Fly / Bounce / Sky Attack and
cancels the charging turn.
Hypno now learns Recover.
Paras and Parasect get Parasitic Mould, a new ability that sets Leech Seeds to a Pokémon making contact.
Ponyta and Rapidash get Race Horse, a new ability that boosts the Pokémon’s speed on switch-in.

Generation 2
Meganium no longer has Leaf Guard; it is replaced with Regenerator.
Typhlosion gains access to Shadow Ball (yay, it got coverage…).
Ledian has now 85 Special Attack, learns Calm Mind and Psychic. Its hidden ability has been changed to Wind
Rider. There is a new form that is physically oriented, whose hidden ability is Iron Fist.
Hoppip/Skiploom/Jumpluff now learn Air Slash
Furret now has the ability Huge Power.
Unown now learns some Psychic-type moves and has a new ability that raises its statistics upon switch-in if
there are other Unowns in the trainer’s team.
Lugia gets a new ability: Strong Wingbeat, which generates the new weather Tempest.

Generation 3
Tropius now has a 107 BS in Atk.
Luvdisc has the special equivalent of Huge Power, has a +10 boost in special attack, and learns Healing Wish.
Slaking does not have Truant anymore. Its stats have been reworked.
Skitty/Delcatty have a slight boost in ATK (+15 and +20 resp). Normalize is replaced with Normalized, which
allows Normal-type moves to always hit neutrally.
Deoxys gets a new ability that makes it change forms depending on the move used:
- Deoxys switches to Speed form when using: Aerial Ace, Agility, Ally Switch, Charge Beam, Double Team,
Extreme Speed, Flash, Knock Off, Mind Mandala, Pursuit, Psycho-Shift, Rain Dance, Shockwave, Skill-Swap,
Snatch, Substitute, Sunny Day, Swagger, Swift, Taunt, Telekinesis, Teleport, Throat Chop, Thunder Wave,
Torment, Toxic, Trick, War Mandala.
- Deoxys switches to Defense form when using: Amnesia, Calm Mind, Confide, Cosmic Power, Counter,
Detect, Dream Eater, Endure, Gravity, Iron Defense, Laser Focus, Leer, Lightscreen, Magic Coat, Mirror Coat,
Nightshade, Protect, Psych-Up, Recover, Recycle, Reflect, Rest, Roleplay, Safeguard, Seismic Toss, Sleep Talk,
Snore, Spikes, Stealth Rock, Toxic Spikes, Trick Room, Wonder Room.
- Deoxys switches to Attack form when using a damaging move that is not listed above.
- Deoxys switches to Normal form otherwise.
- Under Trick Room / Gravity, Deoxys will not take its Speed form.
- Under harsh weathers, Deoxys will switch to Defensive form when using status moves. Are considered harsh
weathers: Hail, Sandstorm, Harsh Sun, Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, Tempest.
Regirock/Registeel/Regice get a new ability that replaces Clear Body and boosts (respectively) Rock-type, Steel-
type and Ice-type moves, just like Regieleki and Regidrago.
Mighthyena and Poochyena have a new ability: Wolf Blood, which strengthens biting moves and Howl, now
upping Attack by three stages.

Generation 4
Vespiquen now has the choice between a “Parental Bond”-like ability (its swarm also attacks) or an equivalent of
Magic Guard.
Regigigas no longer has Slow Start. Its ability is Oblivious. No change in stats. Crush Grip (Regigigas’ signature
move) now has no effect and deals 120 damage.
Phione learns Calm Mind.
Cherrim’s Flower Gift now boosts all stats on sun + we get its cute form with sun and with no weather.
Lumineon now learns Wish.
Dialga’s signature move, Roar of Time, now hits two turns after use (like Future Sight).
Palkia and Dialga have a new signature ability: Wormhole. Wormhole cancels the charging turn and the
recharging turn of two-turn moves like Hyper Beam. Also avoids hitting, and being hit by allies in multiple
battles.

Generation 5
Lilligant now learns Extrasensory + Shadow Ball.
Mega-Audino remains pure Normal-type. This is because Audino now has a Normal-Fairy second form.
Archen/Archeops have been split into two forms: a physical form and a special form. Defeatist was removed.
Their stats have been reworked.
Zen Mode is now considered a separate, standalone form for Darmanitan, and Darmanitan will not transition
from normal mode to Zen Mode; also Galarian Darmanitan (not Zen Mode) no longer learns fire moves.
Fearow and Braviary now have a new ability, Bird of Prey, that gives priority on Fly / Bounce / Sky Attack and
cancels the charging turn.
Cryogonal now has Snow Warning and learns Nasty Plot.
Leavanny now learns Leech Life.
The Simipour / Simisear / Simisage now learn U-turn, Swords Dance, and have respectively Drizzle / Drought /
Grassy Surge.

Generation 6
Gogoat and Skiddo now have Grassy Surge.
Pyroar and Litleo now have Scrappy instead of Unnerve.
Amaura and Aurorus now learn Recover.

Generation 7
Oricorio now learns Quiver Dance and Hurricane.

Generation 8
Grapploct now has Guts as a third ability.
Thievul’s base statistics were reworked: inverted special attack and special defense. New stats in order HP, Atk,
Def, SpAtk, SpDef, Speed: 70, 58, 58, 92, 87, 90.
Palossand and Sandygast no longer have Sand Veil; replaced with Sandstream.
Zen Mode is now considered a separate, standalone form for Darmanitan, and Darmanitan will not transition
from normal mode to Zen Mode; also Galarian Darmanitan (not Zen Mode) no longer learns fire moves.
