What is an Interview ?

1. The word Interview comes from French word "Entrevue" meaning “See Each Other”

2. Generally, an Interview means a Private Meeting among people when questions are
asked and answered

3. The person who asks the questions of our interview is called an interviewer

4. The person who answers the questions of an interview is called in the interviewee

5. It suggests a conversation between two persons for the purpose of getting a view of
each other or for knowing each other.

 One-To-One Interview is a verbal and visual


interaction between two people

 The Interviewer and the Interviewee meets


for a particular purpose

 The purpose of this interview is to match


the candidate with the job

 It is a Two Way Communication


2. The Lunch/Dinner Interview

 Interviewer might invite your for meal and


there in the restaurant or coffee shop

 There might be interview while having food

 It might be One-to-One Interview


3. The Group Interview
 Group Interview is conducted when the
company is hiring multiple people for the
same job

 A topic is given to the group, and they are


asked to discuss it

 The interviewer carefully watches the


candidates

 The Interviewer tries to judge the behaviour


of each candidate in a group situation
4. The Panel Interview
 Panel means a selection committee or interview
committee that is appointed for interviewing
the candidates

 The panel may include three or five members

 They ask questions to the candidates about


different aspects & They give marks to each

 The final decision is taken by all members

 In the Job Fair you can get various recruiters

7. The Video Interview
 If the Interviewer and Interviewee are located
at far distant places geographically then Video
conference Interview is arranged

 Interviewer can directly view the candidate and


their body language and can interact directly

 Laptop or Desktop, Web Cam, Mic , Internet


connection etc. are must for Video Interview
8. The Written/Online Assessment Interview

 For this type of Interviews one particular


date is scheduled and all the aspiring
candidates are invited for appearing the
Written/On-Line Assessment

 For Huge number of Interviewees, this type


of Interview is arranged

 It is to be considered as 1st stage screening


to shortlist the candidates
9. The Serial Interview
 This style of interview is sometimes called Round
Robin Interviewing

 In such an interview style, there are two or more


rounds of interviews are conducted with the same
candidate

 The first interview will be the basic one to gauge if


the candidate is the right one then other rounds
would be conducted

 Some companies like to conduct all the interviews


in a single day while some might prefer different
days for each
10. The Off-Site Interview
 Employers sometimes schedule job
interviews in a public place, like a coffee
shop or restaurant or a Hotel

 Perhaps there is no local office or maybe


they don’t want current employees to know
about the possibility of a new hire

 The Off-Site Interviews are considered more


flexible and relaxing for the Interviewees
11. The Walk-In/On-The-Spot Interview
 Walk in interview strategy is used to conduct
interviews when the recruiting firm is wanting to
hire in huge numbers

 The number of rounds may be more than one like


Basic Screening, Technical Round, Managerial
Round, HR Round etc.

 Candidates can simply reach the office, and get


interviewed by the employer on a specified date and
time announced by the Company
12. The Mock Interview
 A mock interview provides you with an
opportunity to practice for an interview and
receive honest feedback

 You can do an informal mock interview with a


friend of family member

 A mock interview with a career coach, counselor


or university career office will give the best
feedback

 Basically Mock Interview gives an experience for

 A meeting with your prospective coworkers

 An exit interview is a meeting between an
employee who has resigned or been terminated
and the company's Human Resources
department

 Companies conduct these types of interviews, so


they can learn more about the work environment
and get job feedback

 You may be asked why you left your job, why are
you taking a new job, and what would you change
about your job.
