a. Find the average rate of change of the volume over the first ten minutes.
b. Find the instantaneous rate of change of the volume when t =10.

a. Determine the velocity and acceleration of the particle at any time t.

12. A cylindrical can with open top has a volume of 4𝜋 𝑚3 . Let radius and height of
the can be “r” and “h” respectively.
a. Express h in term of r.
b. Express the total surface area of the can in term of r.
c. Use calculus to find the value of r that gives the minimum total surface
area.

13. The height in metres of the tide at a certain port entrance is modelled by the
