EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) was established on the 1st July 1984 by the Parliamentary
Act No.6 of the same year, which was repealed by the Universities Act No.7 of 2005 from which the
SUA Charter was granted in 2007. The vision of the University is to be a
leading University in the provision of quality knowledge, skills and innovations in
agriculture and allied sciences.

The Management of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) invites suitable qualified Tanzanians
to fill 58 posts mentioned below: -

A. ACADEMIC POSITIONS – (58) POSTS

1. ASSISTANT LECTURERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION FOR THE POSITIONS

Required Qualification: A candidate in possession of a good Master Degree in a relevant field

with at least a GPA of 4.0 out of 5.0 and having a minimum GPA of 3.8 in the First Degree with
minimum score of B+ in relevant subjects or its equivalent.

Duties and Responsibilities:

a) To undergo an induction course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before;
b) To carry out lectures, conduct tutorials, seminars and practical’s for undergraduate
programmes;
c) To prepare and present case studies;
d) To conduct and publish/ disseminate research results;
e) To recognize students having difficulties, intervene and provide help and support;
f) To participate in consultancies and community services under supervision;
g) To attend workshops, conferences and symposia; and
h) To perform other duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities.

Age: Not above 45 years of age

Remuneration: As per Treasury Registrar’s Circular No. 7 of 2015, which is applicable at the
moment.

Specific qualifications: Holder of a Master degree in Community Development/ Rural

Forestry with specialization in wood utilization and a Bachelor Degree in Forestry from a
recognized University with at least a GPA of 4.0 for MSc and 3.8 for the BSc degree.

1.3 DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN NUTRITION AND CONSUMER SCIENCES

POSITION: ASSISTANT LECTURER (HUMAN NUTRITION) – (02) POSTS

Specific qualifications: Holder of Master of Science Degree in either Human Nutrition, Public
Health Nutrition or Nutrition & Dietetics and a Bachelor of Science Degree in either Human
Nutrition or Home Economics & Human Nutrition from a recognized University with at least a GPA
of 4.0 for MSc and 3.8 for the BSc degree.

1.4 DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL, AQUACULTURE AND RANGE SCIENCES

POSITION: ASSISTANT LECTURER (ANIMAL SCIENCE) - (02) POSTS

Specific qualifications: Holder of Master of Science Degree in either Animal Science, Tropical
Animal Production or Animal Nutrition and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science from a
recognized University with at least a GPA of 4.0 for MSc and 3.8 for the BSc degree.

POSITION: ASSISTANT LECTURER (PLANT PATHOLOGY) - (01) POST

Specific qualifications: Holder of Master of Science in Crop Protection/ Crop Science specialized
in Crop Protection and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/ Agronomy from a
recognized University with at least a GPA of 4.0 for MSc and 3.8 for the BSc degree. In addition,
the applicant must have scored a minimum of B+ in the relevant subjects or its equivalent.

Specific qualifications: Holder of Master Degree (MBA/MSc/MA) in the following areas; Finance,
Accounting, Tax Management, Development Finance, Econometric Finance or any related field
and a Bachelor Degree in Accounting/Finance/Development Finance/Tax Management from a
recognized University with at least a GPA of 4.0 for MSc and 3.8 for the BSc degree

POSITION: ASSISTANT LECTURER (HYDROGEOLOGY AND WATER RESOURCES
MANAGEMENT) – (2) POSTS
Specific qualifications: Holder of Master of Science in either of the following-Hydrogeology,
Hydrometeorology, Hydrology and Water Resources Management, Irrigation & Water Resources
Engineering, Civil & Water Resources Engineering, Environmental & Water Resources Engineering
and a Bachelor degree in Environmental Sciences/Engineering, Civil & Water Resources
Engineering, Irrigation Engineering from a recognized University with at least a GPA of 4.0 for MSc
and 3.8 for the BSc degree.

1.8 DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

POSITION: ASSISTANT LECTURER (RECORDS AND ARCHIVES, LIBRARY, INFORMATION
AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT) – 2 POSTS
Specific qualifications: Must be a holder of Master Degree in Library and Information Science/
Knowledge Management/ Information Studies/ Information Science/ Records Management/
Archives Administration/ Library Science and a Bachelor degree in either Library and Information
Studies/Science or Information Science or Records Management and Archives Administration or
Information and Knowledge Management or Information Management from a recognized University
with at least a GPA of 4.0 for MSc and 3.8 for the BSc degree. In addition, the applicant must have
scored a minimum of B+ in the relevant subjects or its equivalent.

2. TUTORIAL ASSISTANT/RESEARCH FELLOW TRAINEE
GENERAL DESCRIPTION FOR THE POSITION

Required Qualifications: A candidate in possession of Bachelor / BSc Degree qualification with a

Minimum GPA of 3.8 and for unclassified Degrees such as Veterinary and Medical graduates an
average of B+ with a calculated GPA of 3.8 and assessed to be potentially good academically. In
addition, one must have scored a minimum of B+ in the relevant subjects or its equivalent.

Duties and Responsibilities:

a) This is a training post; the staff is required to undergo a Master’s Degree training programme;
b) Undergo an induction course in pedagogic skills for those who had none before;
c) Understudy senior members, including attending lectures and seminars, tutorials and practical
training;
d) Assisting in conducting tutorials, seminars and practicals;
e) Assist in research, consultancy and outreach activities; and
f) Perform other related duties that may be assigned by the relevant authorities.

Age: Not above 35 years of age

Remuneration: As per Treasury Registrar’s Circular No. 7 of 2015, which is applicable at the
moment.

2.1 MIZENGO PINDA CAMPUS - KATAVI

2.1.1 POSITION: TUTORIAL ASSISTANT (CROP PRODUCTION) – (1) POST
Specific qualifications: Holder of Bachelor degree in either Agriculture General, Horticulture or
Agronomy from a recognized University with a minimum GPA of 3.8. In addition, the applicant must
have scored a B+ in Applied Entomology.

2.1.2 POSITION: TUTORIAL ASSISTANT (BEE SCIENCES) – (02) POST

Specific qualifications: Holder of Bachelor degree in either Bee Resources Management or
Beekeeping Sciences and Technology from a recognized University with a minimum GPA of 3.8.

2.18 DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

Specific qualifications: Holder of a Bachelor Degree in either Commerce in Accounting, Bachelor
of Accounting and Finance, Bachelor of Tax Management, Bachelor of Development Finance or
Bachelor of Economic Finance from a recognized University with a minimum GPA of 3.8. In
addition, the applicant must have scored a minimum of B+ in the relevant subjects.
