MM536 / MM558 - Calculus

Compulsory Assignment II

Instructions
Solutions must be submitted via BlackBoard no later than Monday 11 January 2021 at 23:59.

Your solutions must include an explanation for your work which is well structured, clearly presen-
ted and mathematically correct. Solutions can be written in english or danish.

Answers given without a justification will not receive any credits. Answers obtained directly from
any mathematical software given without a clear and mathematically correct explanation will not
receive any credits.

The maximum number of points available for all exercises is 100.

A minimum of 40 points is needed to pass the exam.

This is an individual exam: solutions must not be discussed with others.

Violations of this principle will be considered as exam fraud and sanctioned accordingly.

Exercise 1 (25 points)
Compute the following definite integrals, and specify for each if it is a proper or improper integral.
Z 8 π

Exercise 2 (25 points)

For each of the following functions of 2 or 3 variables find the natural domain of definition of the
function f and compute its gradient ∇ f .

(a) f ( x, y) = 2x y + arcsin(y) (d) f ( x, y, z) = x sin(y) + y cos(z2 )

(b) f ( x, y) = cosh( xy) + sin( xy) (e) f ( x, y) = x2 − y2 sin( x2 − y2 )

(c) f ( x, y) = e2x+3y + arctan( x )

N.B.: cosh( x ) is the hyperbolic cosine of x.

Exercise 3 (25 points)

specify if it is a proper or improper integral.
