NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Students are expected to go to school everyday. They will learn something in school and they may
apply it to their everyday living. There are so many activities that a student should attend if they can’t attend
school they might be left behind, and could affect their academic performance. There are reasons why a
student can’t attend or tend to absent in class. Some of these are because they are sick, they don’t have
money, and they can’t come to attend because there’s something happen.
According to Letter (2014) absenteeism in school is the habit of staying away from school without providing a
genuine or a reason for not attending classes. Absenteeism is a truant that negatively affects the performance
among students. Absenteeism is used by so many factors such as lack interest, teacher, teacher approach,
pamperness, private couching, diseases, school infrastructural facilities and entertainment.
William (2018) sited that people often consider grades first defining academic performance. Academic
performance depends on learning skills, on home environment, academic, interactions and study habit,
although education is not only read to success in the working world, such effect is made to identify, evaluate,
track and encourage the progress of students in school. Parents care about their child’s educational
performance because they believe good results will provide more career choice s and job security. Schools
though investing in fastening positive habits for the same reason. Are also influenced by concerns about the
schools reputation and the possibility of monetary aid from governments institutions, which can hang on
overall academic performance of the school. State and federal departments of education are change with
improving schools and device methods of measuring success in order to create plans of improvement,
according to Bell (2018).
Attendance in school is so important to student. Absenteeism can affect their academic performance in some
instances. It could affect not just their grades but also their life. It is important to study absenteeism and
academic performance for the students to be aware about it so they can avoid it. The main aim of the study to
determine the impact of absenteeism to the academic performance of Senior High School Students at Palinta
National High School. The Researchers also want to know the factors affecting absenteeism in class because
some of the students nowadays don’t care about what can be the effect of absenteeism to their grades.
The study aims to determine the impact for absenteeism to the Academic Performance of Senior High School
students a PNHS, school year 2023-2024.
THEORITICAL FRAMEWORK
For this study, absenteeism is defined as the fact that those who are not satisfied with their work; that job
dissatisfaction would be the direct cause of absenteeism in the workplace. Empirical evidences confirm that
absenteeism produce the high level of problems and failure that mainly affects the academic performance of
the students. There is decline in value of specialization among the students and the significant decrease has
been associated with academic performance. The study carried out by (Hidayat) indicated that there is a
negative association between students academic performance and hours of absence in their courses. There is
a decline in value of specialization among the students and significant decrease the achievements of student
(Steyn and Van, 2002). One of the problems which influences student’s non-completion of university studies in
this period is absenteeism, which constitutes an increasing problem in different countries.
CONCEPTUAL PARADIGM
This study aims to finds out if student’s absenteeism really affect the academic performance of Senior High
School students of the Palinta National High School. The paradigm or conceptual framework illustrates this in
the figure that follows.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to determine the impact of Absenteeism on the Academic Performance of the Grade 12 CSS
students of Palinta National High School of the School year 2024-2025.
Specially, the study atempts to answer the following
1. Determine the factors of Absenteeism
2. Identify who are the students whose parents are actively engage on their academic performance.
3. How does Absenteeism helps them on their academic performance and achievements?
RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS
There is no significant effect of parents being involved on the Academic Performance of the
students of the grade 12 CSS students of Palinta National High School.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study will support the students in determining their study habits either it is good or bad. On the
other hand, this study will also help to improve the student’s academic performance.
Student- In particular, the students of Palinta National High School will know the impact of
Absenteeism in the academic performance. This will help them to further evaluate their academic
performance.
Parents- Parents will gain insight about the impact of Absenteeism towards the academic Performance
of their children. It may also lead them to change their perspective about their Children’s decision.
Teachers- Teachers will also gain insights about this study. Such insights may lead to realization which
makes the teacher to become more understandable towards students.
Researchers- Will knowledge and insights that will become a way to further pursue this study and find
solution about this observable problem.
Future Researchers- The findings of this study will guide them on the linguistic concern of the
students in reading this research paper. It will pave the way for more expound studies on similar fields.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
This study focus on the impact of Absenteeism on the Academic Performance of the Grade 12
General Academic Strands students of Palinta National High School. Thia study will be conducted in
Palinta National High School during the school year 2024-2025. The study will find out what are the
Impact of Absenteeism on their Children’s Academic performance and how important Absenteeism is
on student’s education.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
To facilitate the understanding of this study, different terms are defined herein;
Absent- student is marked not present at school, or either an excuse or excuse reasons.
According to the state attendance policy, student who is absent for half day of the school day
should be mark absent.
Excuse Absent- A student is absent due to excuse reasons, this usually requires
documentation . However, what constitutes an excuse absence is determined by district policy.
Unexcused Absent- A student is absent due to unexcused reason: district policy define an
unexcused absent.
Chronic Absenteeism- Absence rate greater than 10% in a 180-day school year, a student is
missing more than 18 days.
