When a riot at Ephesus forced Paul to leave the city, the Apostle traveled through Macedonia
and Greece, strengthening the churches there (Acts 19:1–20:6). Paul would see the elders of the
Ephesian church again, however, and his remarks to them constitute one of the most important
speeches in the book of Acts.
That speech to the Ephesian elders is included this month in our study of the book of Acts.
Looking first to Acts 20:7–38, we will learn about Paul’s brief ministry in Troas, where he
stopped on his way to take relief funds from gentile churches to Jerusalem. Then we will make
our way through Paul’s farewell speech to the Ephesian elders, where he focuses on the
necessity of holding fast to Apostolic teaching and the core truths of the faith. After that, we
will look at the core truths of Christianity using Dr. R.C. Sproul’s teaching series The Apostles’
Creed.
We will then move on to Acts 21:1–26, which narrates Paul’s final travel to and arrival in
Jerusalem. James’ wisdom is on full display in the Holy City as he seeks to vindicate Paul
against false accusations. We will begin a brief study of the wisdom of James as seen in key
parts of his epistle.
