SAMVAD SAMITI GROUP- 4

I SI/EXE Ramkrishna I/C of samvad samiti group-4 held a meeting with my group members
where we discussed some important issues related with Aviation security such as under given
below:-

1-DRONE (UAV)- As we know that unmanned Arial vehicle is very big threat to the aviation
security as well as country. It bring an airplane down during a mid-air collision and also very
small and hard to see for pilots.

2- Another issue is that drones are now being produce in huge numbers and at very low cost
and it can also be navigated through GPS. Which recently example in a war AZARBAIJAN use
the drone attack in ARMENIA to destroy their army base and air strip and they success.
Azerbaijan is primarily credited with having achieved this through its use of Israeli-made Harop loitering
munitions (also known as “suicide” or “kamikaze” drones) and Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drones,
which are armed with precision-guided smart munitions, among other weapons.

3- As we have seen In the past few days that UAV have been used to destroy in our vital
installation so it is necessary that we have to think about it preventive measures and proper
guidelines.

BDDS EQUIPMENT - As we know that Aviation security is very important and it has a huge
threat from IED & bomb explosion. so we have discussed in our group and decided that to
reduce the IED explosion it is very important to need a bomb blanket and other detective
devices to prevent the IED related threat so that it can protected in less of the time with the
trained person.

4- Cyber Threats in Civil Aviation-cyber security breaches are disruptive, induce unexpected
costs, reduce defense capabilities, and impede the local government . Clearly, random attacks
hinder from investing in current cyber upgrades to defend against persistent cyber crimes.
Without a doubt, terrorists, hackers, adversarial nations, and non-state actors target civil aviation
due to previous successes in aviation such as hijackings, the 9/11 attacks, and the Pan Am
bombing . Current security practices in aviation date back over 60 years . Oster, Strong, and Zorn
(2013) proclaimed that the tools used by terrorists are essential, in fact, the tools and capabilities
are crucial for developing cyber defenses, creating awareness, and preventing future threats.
There are four categories of terrorist threats to civil aviation:
1. The obliteration of an aircraft with a bomb,
2. Hijacking,
3. A terrorist attack on the airport, and
4. A cyber-attack on the aviation infrastructure .
Due to the emergence of new technologies and capabilities in aviation makes it difficult to
predict or prevent a cyber terrorist from conducting attacks on the aviation infrastructure.
The objective of a terrorist group or terrorism is to cause fear, to dominate, or
to intimidate due to political, economic, religion, ideology, or cultural indifferences
. Cyberspace is a global medium that terrorist
groups leverage to conduct illegal activities due to the difficulty in controlling and
regulating cyberspace . Given the lack of laws regarding cyberspace, it perpetuates terrorism and
criminal activity via the Internet because cyber criminals remain anonymous from
the added protection of operating in cyberspace and are armed with cyber capabilities to affect
public and private entities. As organizations and people leverage cyberspace for business,
malicious actors, and cybercriminals are leveraging cyberspace as a means to induce fear, to
intimidate, steal, and conduct other forms of criminal activities. Cyberspace is borderless with
valuable access points around the world, which provide cyber criminals with a target
rich environment. . Cyberspace is an optimal platform for cyber terrorists to operate covertly or
overtly. Ideally, computer networks and communication systems should be designed to allow
reasonable and integrative security upgrades. Because modern-day computer systems and
networks are hyper connected to critical infrastructures that are essential to national security,
public safety, health services, banking, and the economy are interconnected globally
through digital system. cyber attack are a great threat to the aviation industry. Security
vulnerabilities also allow terrorist to achieve their goals without having to hijack a plane
physically.
IN 2018, there was a ransom ware attack on the electronic flight information screens at
Bristol Airport. The screens were immediately replaced with board information and airport
security deployed more staff member to deal with the situation. The IT systems were taken
down, and criminals claimed the restoration of these system only once the ransom was paid.
And British Airways announced that their system was hacked and the credit card information of
roughly 380,000 passengers had been stolen. So, British Airways had to pay a fine of $230
million for this breach.

CBRN THREAT TO CIVIL AVIATION :- CBRN' is the abbreviation commonly used to describe the
malicious use of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear materials or weapons with the
intention to cause significant harm or disruption. The hazard posed by these materials varies:

 Chemical: Poisoning or injury caused by chemical substances, including traditional

(military) chemical warfare agents, harmful industrial or household chemicals.
 Biological: Illnesses caused by the deliberate release of dangerous bacteria or viruses or
by biological toxins (e.g. ricin, found in castor oil beans).
 Radiological: Illness caused by exposure to harmful radioactive materials.
 Nuclear: Life-threatening health effects caused by exposure to harmful radiation, thermal
or blast effects arising from a nuclear detonation.

A ‘traditional’ terrorist attack will involve some form of human interaction and
physical violence from the perpetrator, whether the tool used is a knife, gun
or explosive device. The CBRN threat is different in that it will be silent and go
unnoticed until such a time the agent released has taken effect, which can take
hours, days or even weeks.

CBRN agents can come in a number of forms, including:

 Sarin

 Ricin
 Plague
 Anthrax
 Mustard Gas

Sarin is often transported as a liquid and vaporises quickly at room temperature.

If Sarin reaches a concentration of 70mg per m3, a male adult in the same room
could die after only five minutes exposure. Simply speaking, you can kill a human
with a tiny droplet of Sarin. Toxins such as Ricin are much more lethal, and the
amount needed to be lethal is hardly visible. For Bio agents, there is no ‘quantity’
of an agent as such. For bacteria, it is the number of colony-forming units that
are used to determine dosage. With Anthrax for example, a lethal dose is
considered to be 10,000 spores. For each gram of Anthrax, a human would get
100 lethal doses (through inhalation).
It is worth noting that although it is difficult for an individual to obtain a CBRN
agent. Even if they do, they will still require a dispersal device in which to deploy
the agent. Finally, they will require the means of placing this device on board and
aircraft, which is where the critical role of airport security .
