Executive summary

The main objective of this attachment is to determine how the theoretical


courses are applied on the real world. The intention of practical
attachment was to increase student ’s knowledge and enable student to
compare what we have learn so far in class and what have experienced
in summer practical. To produce well qualified, self-reliant, active,
change agent and real problem solver student.
In addition, the other objective is to investigate equal participation of A
wash Bank with other banks it realizes to its visions, mission and
objective. Not only limited to this but also emphasis the problems faced
by us while we’re performing summer practical attachment.
Thus practical attachment suggests solutions and some of policy implicat
ion toward reducing the problems based on finding.
CHAPTER ONE 1: INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background of the Internship


Internships are highly valuable for management students as they provide
practical experience, skills, and knowledge that bridge the gap between
academic learning and real-world work. Here are some reasons why
internships are significant for management students:
1. Practical Experience: By working in a company or organization can
gain hands-on experience in various aspects of management, such as
project management, team leadership, marketing, finance, and
operations. This practical experience helps we understand how
management theories and concepts are applied in real-world scenarios.
2. Skill Development: Internships provide for ours with the chance to
develop essential skills that are highly valued by employers. These skills
include problem-solving, communication, teamwork, time management,
and adaptability. By working in a professional environment, we can
improve their ability to work under pressure, manage conflicts, and
collaborate with diverse teams.
3. Career Exploration: By working in various departments and roles, we
can gain a better understanding of their strengths, interests, and career
aspirations. This exploration can help we make informed decisions about
their future career choices and specialize in a particular area of
management.

1.2. Objectives of the Internship

- Gaining practical management experience: By working in ABC, we


can apply theoretical knowledge and learn how management theories
and concepts are applied in real-world scenarios.
- Applying management theories: By working in a professional
environment, we can see how different management approaches, such as
leadership styles, organizational structures, and performance
management techniques, can impact an organization's success.
-. Understanding organizational dynamics: including company culture,
team dynamics, and communication patterns. By observing and
participating in various aspects of an organization, we can learn how to
create a positive and productive work environment.

1.3. Scope of the Report


This report covers the tasks we are performed during our internship, the
management theories applied, challenges faced, skills gained, and a
reflection on my personal and professional growth.

Chapter 2: Organization Overview

2.1. Company Profile

Awash Bank is a commercial bank headquartered in Addis Ababa,


Ethiopia. It was established in1994 and establishment by 486
founding shareholders on November 10, 1998 with a paid up
capital of birr 242 Million. It is the first private commercial bank in
Ethiopia following the down fall of Military regime and the declaration
of market oriented economic policy. It started banking operations on
February 13. It provides a range of financial services, including retail
and corporate banking, investment banking, and asset management.
The bank serves a diverse customer base, including individuals, small
and medium-sized enterprises, large corporations, and government
institutions.
The name derives from the Awash River, which is extensively used in
Ethiopia for small to large-scale irrigation schemes, hydroelectricity
generation and for industrial activities. By that token, the tagline
“nurturing like the river” implies Awash Bank’s immense contribution
to the country’s socio-economic development. We also serve the
population by encouraging the habit of saving, the provision of credit
facilities and facilitating efficient and fast payment systems. with over
466 branches found across the country, Awash Bank continues to be
leading private commercial Bank in Ethiopia.

Transfer, foreign currency account.
-Lending services:- Term Loans, Insurance Guarantees.

-Digital services:- ATM(Automated Teller Machine), Internet, M-
Wallet(Mobile-Wallet)
-Safe Box Services:- safety deposit box service in area where we have
buildings.

Target Market:

Awash Bank's target market includes individual customers, small and


medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), large corporations, and government
institutions in Ethiopia. The bank aims to provide a comprehensive
range of financial services to meet the diverse needs of its customers,
helping them achieve their financial goals.
Competitive Position:

It is already a pioneering privately-owned bank in Ethiopia’s financial


landscape. Among its 29 peers in the domestic market, Awash
Bank dominates in terms of asset size, profitability, capital base,
deposits, and loans and advances. The next step, for most of the rest of
this decade, is a roadmap to transform the bank to reach greater heights.

Leadership Style:
Awash Banks dominantly practiced a Transactional leadership style,
where leaders inspire and motivate their teams to achieve organizational
goals. This style focuses on empowering employees, fostering

organization, which helps to drive performance and employee

Banks have complex decision-making processes that involve various

Chapter 3: Internship Roles and Responsibilities

3.1 Job Description

As an Operations Intern we assist in the day-to-day operations of the


bank, ensuring that all processes and procedures are followed accurately
and efficiently. We intern assigned to the Operations department and
will work closely with the team to achieve the department's goals.
The ours responsibility include, Processing customer transactions,
Maintaining accurate records, . Providing excellent customer service,

3.3 Application of Management Theories

Applicability of theories in practical work environment is very


interesting and important. In management field there are many
theories that applied on real world. Some theories which are
applicable when we conduct this practical attachment are the
following. The main activity of bank is accepting, depositing and
lending money to its customers which really related to financial
management and principles of accounting.

-The theories of microeconomics for showing how to maximize


profit and creating customer satisfaction.
-The theories of economics used to show exchange of currency.
-From point of principle of marketing view how to create
awareness to customers, how to satisfy their needs

Models or frameworks that could have been used include:

1. SWOT analysis: This framework helps organizations identify


their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. By
conducting a SWOT analysis, an intern could have helped the bank
identify areas where it could improve or take advantage of
opportunities to grow and compete more effectively in the market.

2. Leadership theories: An intern could have applied these theories


to help the bank develop strategies for improving leadership and
team performance.

3. Decision-making models: help organizations understand how to


make better decisions. An intern could have applied these models
to help the bank make more informed and effective decisions.

Chapter 4: Learning Experience

4.1 Skills Acquired

By working in a professional environment, we could improve their
ability to work under pressure, manage conflicts, and collaborate with
diverse teams.

4.2 Challenges Encountered

-At the beginning time they did not give full freedom to do activities
independently.

-Shortage of some extra or additional working materials like chair and
computers for trainers.
-There is inefficiency of employer.
-weather condition problems.
- The internship time was very difficult because it was the time when we
did not finish our studies and it was the exam time, so it was a big
challenge to achieve our goals.
-It was a problem for us to prepare the report sample paper late
-Lack of time was a big challenge so that we don't see what we should to
see

4.3 Problem-Solving and Decision-Making.

We where involved in some problem-solving scenarios, such as


resolving issues with customer service, risks, propose solutions, and
help implement risk management strategies to minimize potential losses
and maximize potential gains.My academic training in management
helped we are analyze problems systematically and implement effective
solutions.

5.1 Personal Growth

1. Self-confidence: we can gain real-world experience and new


challenges, we became more confident in our ability to handle
professional tasks, interact with colleagues and make decisions in
corporate environment.
2. Leadership abilities: This can help we are develop leadership skills,
such as communication, problem-solving, and decision-making, which
can be valuable in both personal and professional life.
3. Adaptability: Banks often have fast-paced and dynamic environments,
which can help we are develop adaptability. We are learn new skills
quickly, adjust to changing circumstances, and handle unexpected
situations, all of which can contribute to our ability to adapt to new
situations and challenges.

5.2 Professional Growth


professionally, we can gained valuable experience in Professional
development and management practices. We learned how to navigate
complex organizational dynamics and improved our leadership and
decision-making skills.

5.3 Relevance to Career Goals

This internship experience reinforced we desire to pursue a career in
HRM. It provided we with the practical skills and knowledge necessary
to succeed in the field and opened up new career opportunities that we
hadn’t considered before.

Chapter 6: Conclusion and Recommendations

6.1 Conclusion.

This practical attachment contains information, include introduction,


background of the organization, goals of the organization, organizations
structure, etc. It covers background of Awash Bank Hossana branch.

Overall, we internship at Awash Bank Corporation was some


experience that allowed we to apply academic knowledge in a real-world
setting. The skills and insights we gained will be invaluable as we
pursue we career in management.

6.2 Recommendations for the Organization

we recommend that Awash Bank Corporation continue to invest in


employee development programs,as they are crucial for maintaining
high levels of employee engagement and retention.Additionally,
streamlining the recruitment process further could help the company
attract top talent more efficiently
. If there is enough counting machine it have great role to be fast and to
give service for many customers. The AB (Awash bank Ethiopia) should
inform to Ethiopian like and power agency (ELPA) to get enough power
distribution.

6.3. Recommendations for Future Interns

Future interns should focus on building strong relationships with their


colleagues and supervisors, as networking is key to gaining valuable
insights and opportunities. Additionally, they should be proactive in
seeking out challenging tasks and learning opportunities during their
internship.
